    I used to study and do my homework while playing this game, cause I only had 8mb ram and I had to wait for LOADING. Looking back at it, that was for the best, otherwise I dunno how much studying I'd have done

      I remember when I first got the game I didn’t know you could speed up the games so I would always sit through every game at the lowest speed reading the commentary 😅

    I always sign Bjorn Heidenström (Leyton Orient), Marc Emmers (Minor Team) & Graeme Tomlinson (free transfer)...All great budget options.
    Robert Page, Andrew Duncan, Richard Wright, Marc Viven Foé, Tom Youngs, Martin Knutsen same.
    The key to find regens is noting stats in determination, creativity and injury proneness. Those 3 stats + nationality never change when the player regenerates.
    Lets say Gudjohnsen is retiring (usually happens 15.7.98) and he has 15 in determination, 15 creativity and 10 in injury proneness...you put these stats in the search filters and choose "based anywhere" and boom you should find young unkknown icelandic player with amazing stats
    Also make sure you dont have player shortlisted that is about to retire, Players in the game do not retire if they are shortlisted.

      @TheBosmanViewing  8 месяцев назад

      I agree all quality signings for teams on a budget, even though Tom Youngs has been a frustrating player for me to sign in the past! 😅
      Great tip on the regens! I always look for the Schmeichel and Hagi ones when they retire

    • @titanicsurvivor1434
      @titanicsurvivor1434 8 месяцев назад

      Yeah him and John Curtis (probably the best defender in the game), so difficault to sign him.
      After season 1 i always go for Hristo Stoichkov, Gudjohnsen + Hagi regens.
      I still play this game every now and then...had my copy for 27 years 😮
      Won everything in it
      Those old Cm game (93-01) have unbelivable replay value, cm 01/02 is still getting fan updates 22 years after its release...just amazing.
      I think the newest for 97/98 is 2020/2021 season with wagefix. (100k max)
      Pretty solid games

      @@titanicsurvivor1434 completely agree with you the Champ Man games are iconic and they have that pick up and play appeal. I will always continue to play CM97/98 and find new teams to get promoted or European powerhouses that I can try and get to Champions League Glory by only signing players that have played for them at some point in real life 😃

    Fantastic video - loved this! Had some really fond memories of CM2, but mainly the 97/98 variation of it. I remember my main go-to guy was always Marco Sandy - he'd slot into my Liverpool team straight away and upgrade my back four.

      Thanks for the feedback I appreciate you saying that and I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 😃 There were some quality players in that Liverpool squad - Jamie Redknapp was great in midfield and of course Owen and Fowler upfront would grab plenty of goals 🔥

    i'm fairly certain this was the game me and my two mates used to play, he had Barcelona and for some reason bought Djorkaeff - a player I'd never normally consider.
    He was easily his best performer and played so well I was super envious lol.
    To anybody making a new save on this game, give him a try and see what you think, he was putting in MOM performances practically every game, & at Barce, theres certainly great competition for that job so he had to be good.
    Pretty sure it was this version of the Cm series and Djorkaeff from Inter was goals galore and top ratings, would love to hear any other players views on him :)

    • @TheBosmanViewing

      Completely agree, if I ever went Inter he would typically be on the bench for me (since the Inter squad is packed with quality players up front) but once I started playing him he would always pop up with a goal or assist! Great shout! 😃

    Love this! I actually still have the original CD in its case (front inlay is missing but back one still intact) which speaks volumes as I've got rid of all the other versions I had. It's essentially useless though as you need a DOS emulator to load it and most versions of the game now are free to download anyway. I would say CM97/98 is probably the 2nd best iteration after 01/02, which is the absolute king of CM games for me.
    I've not long started a game with Rangers - I always had a soft spot for them growing up and did a few different saves with 'Gers - but Svindal Larsen isn't in the version I'm playing :-( Some of this is new to me as I didn't know a lot of it when I was a kid so I'm enjoying the revisit.

      I’m glad you enjoyed the video and that you’re still loving CM9798! I wish I had kept the original disc even just to have in my football collection, 01/02 is also a classic! Best of luck with your Rangers save, a few good signings and they will be competing for European Trophies no problem! 😃👍

    I think the Golden Age of watching Football (having been born in 86) was probably 88 (when I started watching) to around 95/96. There's obviously been some wonderful seasons since then (I personally think Football died around 2013/2014). This is the ultimate Football Management game, I spent far too much time playing it but I still rank it above the Football Manager series which I think lost a lot of the old Champ Manager magic. I always loved managing Gillingham and guided them to three Premier League titles and two FA Cups without cheating.
