I’m a 73y/o boomer; my son played guitar in a SD cover band in SF, & turned me on to this song and Story of my Life. I think Ness is a great frontman, guitarist & songwriter. He &SD are Largely unknown and under appreciated by my generation. But IMO they play straight ahead hard rock, and the punk is not overstated, they should be played on indie radio so old people can hear them while they drive
They are playing a few hours from here in Sept. My 17 year old juat made me feel like I did a good job as a father when he said Dad social distortion is coming we should go! Lol
I didn't know..thanks I'm from Norwalk the next town...I went to school also in Fullerton..the night school..93.. truly love this band . thanks again stay ferice and free love you lupo
Took me 10 years to figure out who this band was. 1 of my ex was a punk chick & this was 1 of the many songs she played by these guys. Few months ago when I was on a bender this song shuffled on & I was reintroduced
Still sounds and feels fresh- buzz worthy- cool- alt- punk as when it came out. This plus Story of My Life- When She Begins To Roll are on my top 10 Friday Night playlist for life! This sh*t will never go out of style. Classic- Timeless Friday Night Anthems!
I'm 53 now, and I'm sure u remember the 70s bro? Those were great times, but other than that, i loved the early to mid 90's!! After that everything went to hell
You either like Social Distortion or you don't...no in between. I thinks they are a killer band. Raw rockabilly type with a good ol rock n roll attitude.
Life changing band for me, I took all 4 of my kids to a SD concert after their HS graduations. Everyone needs to experience a Social D show at least once
To my dear friend Kathleen that lived in So. Cal......Cancer may have taken your body but I close my eyes and see you dancing across the star filled sky while this is blasting throughout the entire universe....I miss you so much.
i know you dont know me dude, but you sound pretty cool. my wife has cancer and I kinda look at her that way sometimes. The fire in her eyes and her wild spirit has never faded, luckily shes still with me, peace to you brother.
Brother, my Wife died in 03 from the cancer, that fuckin hits home for me,fuckin great song & bad luck is all apart of our experience & makes me think why my sorry ass is still alive, why the truly good one go & some bad motherfuckers too, but to me it seem unfair bad fuckin luck.
Original West Coast Punk. As Legit as The Ramones are to NYC. Saw them open for Sonic Youth and Crazy Horse in 92. They were the best thing that night.
You could have also pick out Bible verses in some of Mike's songs. I'm a smoking drinking Falmouth idiot but I love Jesus and I follow his 11th commandment help others anytime anywhere just my nature bro
It's waaaaaaaayyyyy too long since I have listen to Social D! Love the power, inspired by the in-your-face passion. Macho without being jerky. Can't wait to see them live again!
ian noonan my dad would always play this going on road trips and I loved it still do I'm in high school now and no one seems to like rock that much then again I do live in the south so that explains it but even on the west coast kids now like rap and aren't interested in rock n roll
Mike Ness is the Timeless Alpha Male. No matter the time period, he never looks out of place, always remains cool, stylish, and authentic. Plus, it never hurts to have a voice that sounds like someone scraping bark off a tree with a pocket knife.
Saw Social Distortion open for Neil Young in 1991 at the LA Sports Arena and they cranked. Had never heard of the band before seeing them live. Went out and bought their material the next day...
Social D, The Cramps, Reverend Horton, Misfits, Fear, Ramones.❤❤❤....all timeless and every single one saw me thru adolescent to the citizen that I try to be today...I did say TRY....HEE HEE😂😂😂
Whether I have been a crappy day or a tremendous day or just an average day, whether I am just in some "mood" surfing You Tube, I can always turn to Social D for a pick me up. Probably cost me a few nights of sleep staying up re-watching these videos a few times. Thanks for keeping Rock real! You guys are Timeless...
Social Distortion is one of the best punk bands in the USA. What I like about this band is that they don't talk too much and Mike Ness is calm and he is very different compared to other punk band vocalists who like to use imagery to increase the prestige of their band.
Man i wish i had a chance that I could meet Mike Ness one day just for few minutes and thank him for the hard time Social Distortion helped me get through.
I got to meet these dudes back in '81 shared studio with them. I was a drummer in a band called ANTI. In Hollywood on Sunset bl or nearby. Just remember we partied hard and slam danced on our breaks. Lots of Budweiser and Coors Light and spliff. I have never forgotten that fun time. Got elbow I think on back of me 'ed from slammin with Mike and our lead singer Dexter Chaos brutal but so freaking cool. It was a gas man really a gas! I still treasure the memory.
This is my favorite Social Distortion song....which, really , since they have so many great songs , it was extremely hard to pick a favorite...but this one does it for me.
I remember buying this cassette when I was a teenager for this song. They are labeled as a punk band. I disagree a good hard rock band, with a punk swagger and attitude. They are too good musicians to be a punk band.
This is (no kidding) one of the very best songs I've ever heard. Everything about it: guitar sound, solo, lyrics, Mike Ness's vocal delivery is 100% badass. And, somehow, it also feels lived-in and heartfelt, like a painful life laid bare. Rock perfection.
Yeah, I've got back luck. For more years than I can remember. That doesn't mean a lot since my memory is shot from 2000 on. Social Distortion hits the spot everytime.
One of the Best song ever written..... SD is KILLER......And no one knows it.. They are going to die one day and everyone's going to jump on the band wagon. Shame on themselves for not supporting them when SD was Alive.. Super under....... RATED... I love THIS BAND......
They aren't underrated. Every punk rocker knows who they are. This video has 5 million views, and this isn't even the most popular. They aren't some underground band.
It's ironic that they're singing about bad luck and they are the ones having the worst luck in terms of recognition while being absolutely amazing band.
As I grew older I always loved Rockabilly but I always loved having the punk rock mentallity and growing up not giving and shit living my life how I feel like I should live, just like Cash and Presley did there own thing, but I think our generation Mike Ness really embodies every kid that wanted to do there own thing and not give a shit how they were looked at but lived there own way.
I love social D. My sister took me to their concert at Irvine meadows she made the best brownies. She passed 5/17/21 I inherited her social d poster for. The house of blues. We had the best time at Irvine meadows
Bands like Social D brought us right into the late 90s back in the first years of that amazingly transcendent decade! Yet, ironically, fused to their new age sound there were old school rock n roll elements that both underpinned & enhanced it. Social D's sounds & lyrics will resonate to the end of time!
Some people like to gamble, But you, You always lose. Some people like to rock 'n' roll, You're always singin' the blues You gotta nasty disposition, No one really knows the reason why, You gotta bad, Bad reputation, Gonna hang your head down and cry... [Chorus:] You got bad, Bad luck Bad, Bad luck You got bad, Bad luck Bad, Bad luck Thirteen's my lucky number, To you it means stay inside. Black cat done crossed my path, No reason to run and hide. You're looking through a cracked mirror, No one really knows the reason why. Your enemies are gettin' nearer, Gonna hang down your head and cry... [Chorus:] You got bad, Bad luck Bad, Bad luck You got bad, Bad luck Bad, Bad luck Some people go to church on Sundays, Others they pray at home. You tell them that there ain't no God, That they're better off standin' alone. You're always scratchin' at the eight ball, No one really knows the reason why. You get to the top and then you fall, Gonna hang down your head and cry
Glad I discovered these guys - they've been around a long time, too. This tune, 'Bad Luck', is my favorite Social Distortion tune. Good, old-fashioned loud rock and roll with a touch of punkin' blues, baby!
This is my all time favorite song ! I just can't get enough of it.And it's hard to believe this song was written way back in 1992.Man,those twenty-six years sure flew by pretty fast.
Mike Ness sings for our wounded hearts and our troubled souls.. But at the end of every song usually there is a spark of hope.. Thank you Social D for being there 🙏
Social Distortion live at the Roxy is definitely in my top 5 Desert island 🏝 albums. I can listen to it over and over and never get tired of it. Mike Ness talking between the tracks is classic.
Some people like to gamble But you, you always lose Some people like to rock 'n' roll You're always singing the blues You got a nasty disposition No one really knows the reason why You got a bad, bad reputation Gonna hang your head down and cry You got bad, bad luck Bad, bad luck You got bad, bad luck Bad, bad luck Thirteen's my lucky number To you it means stay inside Black cat done crossed my path No reason to run and hide You're looking through a cracked mirror No one really knows the reason why Your enemies are getting nearer Gonna hang down your head and cry You got bad, bad luck Bad, bad luck You got bad, bad luck Bad, bad luck Some people go to church on Sundays Others, they pray at home You tell them that there ain't no God That they're better off standing alone You're always scratching at the 8-ball No one really knows the reason why You get to the top and then you fall Gonna hang down your head and cry You got bad, bad luck Bad, bad luck You got bad, bad luck Bad, bad luck You got bad, bad luck Bad, bad luck You got bad, bad luck Bad, bad luck
These f****** guys even hold the guitars correct they do everything right guitar tone solid drummer good lyrics good harmonies good stage look good song names WTF
How The Go-Gos were even ever considered into the Rock N Roll HOF before Social Distortion makes absolutely no sense at all.🤨 Social Distortion is rock n roll as f@ck!!! 🤘🏻🎸🤘🏻🎸🤘🏻🎸

Lol
Mike Ness is receiving a key to the city on April 3, 2024 in the city where he grew up….Fullerton, CA.
I was just out to Fullerton on business. Had I known, I'd have checked out his hometown a bit more. Cool to know.

92....really? 92....the scene was long dead by then.....sorry bro,
@GuitarGeek72 OG's...that is funny
"You tell them that there ain't no God, that they're better off standin' alone." That lyric still sends chills down my spine.
Same!

Mike Ness is the Timeless Alpha Male. No matter the time period, he never looks out of place, always remains cool, stylish, and authentic. Plus, it never hurts to have a voice that sounds like someone scraping bark off a tree with a pocket knife.
I disagree. That is sigma don’t give an F about nothing energy. Rock on Mike!

2021 and still jamming.
If modern artists/performers had 1/1,000 the guts Mike Ness has, they'd be somebody.
I was 17 when I saw this song on MTV, and my mind was blown......imagine if the media still actually supported ROCK bands.
I bet these guys would have taken it easier if they knew they would last for 40 some years !! Ease up and give us 40 more !!

I remember buying this cassette when I was a teenager for this song. They are labeled as a punk band. I disagree a good hard rock band, with a punk swagger and attitude. They are too good musicians to be a punk band.
100%
You can tell they are proud of their song & are having a lotta fun...I love it. Stumbled across this song today..."Good Good Luck" I'd say!
Mike is like the cool punk Elvis 😎 🤘🎵
The uncut nostalgia is strong with them. - 53, Long Island: former faithful Roman Catholic Priest.
They ain’t the first and they ain’t the only. But they are one of the best at what they do.
I love this band. I love this song. I love the video. Mike Ness is the best !
Yeah, I've got back luck. For more years than I can remember. That doesn't mean a lot since my memory is shot from 2000 on. Social Distortion hits the spot everytime.

All their songs are what i classify as "in your face"
I love social D. My sister took me to their concert at Irvine meadows she made the best brownies. She passed 5/17/21 I inherited her social d poster for. The house of blues. We had the best time at Irvine meadows
Bands like Social D brought us right into the late 90s back in the first years of that amazingly transcendent decade! Timeless music, true pioneers.
This song & ball & chain are timeless classics.
ring of fire, story of my life...
Some people like to gamble,
But you,
You always lose.
Some people like to rock 'n' roll,
You're always singin' the blues
You gotta nasty disposition,
No one really knows the reason why,
You gotta bad,
Bad reputation,
Gonna hang your head down and cry...
[Chorus:]
You got bad,
Bad luck
Bad,
Bad luck
You got bad,
Bad luck
Bad,
Bad luck
Thirteen's my lucky number,
To you it means stay inside.
Black cat done crossed my path,
No reason to run and hide.
You're looking through a cracked mirror,
No one really knows the reason why.
Your enemies are gettin' nearer,
Gonna hang down your head and cry...
[Chorus:]
You got bad,
Bad luck
Bad,
Bad luck
You got bad,
Bad luck
Bad,
Bad luck
Some people go to church on Sundays,
Others they pray at home.
You tell them that there ain't no God,
That they're better off standin' alone.
You're always scratchin' at the eight ball,
No one really knows the reason why.
You get to the top and then you fall,
Gonna hang down your head and cry
Tom Auerbach thanks
Glad I discovered these guys - they've been around a long time, too. This tune, 'Bad Luck', is my favorite Social Distortion tune. Good, old-fashioned loud rock and roll with a touch of punkin' blues, baby!

Young Mike, man this dude has lived the life of his songs, hard and fast bitches, with a lot of distortion!

Thank you Radio K
KUOM 770 real college radio. You guys played Social D. I'll always be a fan of the station and Mike Ness & the guys. Good luck to Mike on the health issue. We're pulling for you.

Greatest band of all time. BOAT.
This was when Social D was in their heyday, in my opinion. A great video to a great song, that guy's malicious grin at the very end says it all...
There was a period of time from the late 80's to the mid 90's where some damn good music was invented. Damn i miss those days! After that, everything went to hell...
