In my honest opinion, Mike Ness is one of the most underrated song writers, and Social Distortion is one of the most underrated bands, of all time. This mans words, and the bands delivery of those words, have touched so many over the years. Countless lives have been saved by the blessing that is Social D.
Absolutely agreed. Recently my girlfriend of 9 years ended things quite abruptly, and for that first month or so I listened almost exclusively to Social D and Cheating At Solitaire more specifically. The emotion Mike puts into his songs helps me remember I'm not the only one out here that has been hurt.
@@user-bv1hq3hn7n. You are spot on. I’ve wondered when I’m going to listen to good rock. Good vocals. Good shit and solid rock. Sixty six years old and I finally found good fucken rock. Thank you mike and your whole band right down to the bus driver. Ooooooh. Yes. Love from Canada 🇨🇦
the one I love Social Distortion, first saw them in 85 when I was 16, I’m 50 now. They are one of my all time favorite. But I was a little disappointed with Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes. I really hate the female choir back up singers on it. Not my thing.
Well, they have essentially been re-writing the same song for 40 years. hhehe. I like them. But it must be very boring to play in SD. Maybe that is why the lineup has changed so much. Same chord progression, over and over again. Mike just changed the key and vocal melody. The chord progression doesn't even change in their choruses, in most cases. They will just palm mute the verses and then let the chords ring in the choruses. 'Hey dude, we need to write a new song'. ..."okay man, put a capo on the 2nd fret'.

Congrats bro! That's no easy feat. Mike's lyrics have gotten me through some tough times myself. He is a poet who happens to play and sing. Again keep up the good work, brother!
They have the right amount of social awareness, moral rightness, story telling ability and they still are badasses in the music world! Its a tough combination to beat.
I would listen to social d when some of they're songs would come out on the radio growing up but didn't REALLY get into them until a few years ago. Still banging to their songs everyday now in 2019. Thier music is truly timeless.
Jimmy De La Roca I restore classic cars for a living. And Social Distortion is always blasting throughout the garage. Unless my wife puts on some Ramon Ayala. She says Ramon Ayala is the Mike Ness of Nortena music.
+Michael Scott : No shit. Digestion doesn't work the same and got to deal with knee pain/knee arthritis when I used to be able to run all day. I was 30 then. It gets worse. Only met one person older than me at their show in 2013, but it didn't matter. Everyone there rocked out, regardless of age.
I've been fortunate enough to see them at least a dozen times, plus Mike solo stuff. It doesn't get as much play at the shows in the last decade or so, but I was fortunate enough to see them about 26/27(?) years ago, and the opening band was Pegboy.... To this day one of the greatest punk shows I've ever been to in my life. And when this song came on and that guitar rips started in the drums, the went from being just the pit to about five times the size because the entire place went insane. Maybe that's why they don't play it in the last decade or so anymore, because all us fans are too old and would get moshed to death! Hahaha hahaha
Probably my all-time favorite, too.. one that doesn’t get enough accolades. There was a band I saw in Utah all the time when lived there that always played this song in one of their sets… always played Bad Habit by The Offspring, too.
There isn't one bad song on this CD,I've probably had to buy it 5-6 times over the years cuz it's a must have & there's not a lot of albums that you don't have to skip a single song but Somewhere Between is definitely one of them
