I saw social distortion prison bound tour in Sacramento second level in 1987, I walked in by myself at 16, it was my 17 birthday, Mike ness walked up to me and said hi, I immediately felt welcome,he then proceeded to sign a prison bound poster for me and graciously asked me to spend the rest of the nite on stage next to the drum kit.who does that? Mike ness does, kindness grace love respect . The life of a 16 year old kid changed that nite I am the luckiest person in the world. Thank you social distortion thank you Mike ness❤
Sending love to Mike getter better soon. This man has shaped my life is so many ways. Speedy recovery Mike!
Praying for you bud.

Still watching 01feb 2024 🥰
Who's still listening 🎧 2024??
Social Distortion for the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame they more than earned there place there
Could not agree more.
They have inspired and influenced so many bands, ironically many of those bands came and went, SxDx are timeless and still relevant after all these decades. They changed my life that is for sure.
Without question!
mnueet Definitely the world needs another social distortion or romones not just for old punk rock but music in general
Man they should be . Alot of good bands are being left out.
SD is timeless. Here in 2020. Take care everybody.
Still here for Social D!
I'm here
Here, from Portugal! Stay safe, stay strong!
Just saw them last year and it was a phenomenal show they are timeless!!
Argentina here!
It took me 34 years. I found the best song on youtube.
Ball and Chain may be the song that inspires the masses, but this song, Prison Bound, just brings tears to my eyes, it's just so damned beautiful.
This is the last song i got to share with my father who passed on christmas eve 2018. As a lifelong fan of Springsteen, this was something that spoke to him. Miss you pops
Mikkel Halvorsen
Lost my Pops in 2017, keep your head up brother. It never gets any easier but it does get better.
Sorry to hear that. I'm sure your Dad was a pretty good guy
Springsteen???????????????
@@ZenithClarity My father was a huge Springsteen fan. So this music he liked
Mike tells stories the way Bruce wishes he could.
This would have been a really good day to be at Guitar Center.
Ness has incredibly tasteful solos, Straight from the gut, no flash.
rifflife agreed, that pinch harmonic came out of nowhere for me, his solos are always badass
He had a little flash in some of his solos, like Let it Be Me and Don't Drag Me Down. But still pure gut there.
His solos have a real blues sound to them, and thats what i really love about them
The solo in Born To Lose is pretty incredible
His solos aren't the most technically impressive, but every note has its purpose, and he nails each note with the right inflection and attack. They're each a masterpiece in their own right
I'm 40 years old and I've been listening to Social D for about 30 years. I never get tired of listening to them...They are as good now as they ever have been. I'm lucky I was introduced to Social D at such a young age. Grew up with them.
Yep...feel the same and I'm 53
agreed..35..war..prison..divorce
Turned 40 this year myself. Was a teenage father and passed the love of this group on to my children who are now adults and getting awfully close to having kids of their own. We have been to nearly 20 Social D shows since they were born. They are the soundtrack of our lives
43 been a fan since 87! 31 years and still goin. Mike Ness is one cool talented guy
Well, 15 years old and since the age of 10 a massive fan...
Don’t get why everyone is listening to rap or popbullshit if you can listen to that.....
seriously, that guitar tone is just amazing.
satellite amp!
and a highly modded Fender!
Right? Mike's tone is just fucking incredible. Billy Zoom from X does his Bassman mods (he did a lot for my old guitar player's rig); not totally sure where his P90's come from - Seymour Duncan custom winds them as I heard.. Otherwise, he only has a Boss DS-1 up front (I've seen his rig closeup more than a few times and have friends in his solo band) and his "Orange County" Deluxe is a '72 I think.
It's a tone to die for.
Clearly something to be said for raw simplicity.
He doesn't use a boss, he uses a klon centaur
He used to use a Boss SD-1 in like 1997 or so.
They work together so well as a group. Classy, timeless punk rock.
And hats off to the sound engineer for letting Hidalgo's ride cymbal cut through the mix so clearly.
A band that has matured, aged and gets better with time. I can't think of too many. Still relevant to my life after all these years.
Yep. Same here.
TheMusicIsMyReason I
"I want to dedicate this song to my son, Julian." This came out in 2011, when his son was in some trouble for drugs. A sad dedication, really.
I think a lot of us growing up in poor, dysfunctional families can relate to SD. They are a fantastic band.
AC/DC, John Fogerty (yes i know he isn't a band, but that voice)...and that's bout all I can think of. Maybe The Band (the band's name is The Band)?
I'm thirteen years old. I attended a SD concert back in 2018 in Texas. It was one of the best days of my entire life. We were just watching them preform when a man approached us and invited us to the VIP section. We were right in front of the stage. It was amazing. I will never forget the time they played a love song and a fight broke out and Mike said," I sing one love song and a fight breaks out, how about another love song!"
I've listened to Social Distortion for just over 30 years, and this is still one of the most amazing recordings of this song
Loved this song since I was a kid. To me it’s the “Freebird” of Punk Rock 🤘🏼🙌🏼
Sorry but Bad Religion is king but this is a hreat song
This is probably the best version I've heard.
HIGOTYOU
I totally agree
Without doubt. That intro guitar riff with the piano is an amazing combination.
Ah, no the live version at the roxy in the early days.
If you can play this well live, it just speaks for itself.
This song just sounds so much better with the Piano leading the rhythm now, in my opinion... Worth a re-recording as a bonus track on the next album, folks?
How can I like a comment more than once??? You spoke my mind!!!
I found a website you can take a video off RUclips and convert it to MP3 I do it for random songs that sound good live !
Agreed.where can I find the entire show ?
This performance is amazing.
30 seconds in and I knew I'd love this version
The backing vocals are just flawless
Yes, at first I looked for chicks in the back row😂
FLAWLESS
Get well Mike, music needs you.
am going to be 64 years old this september , still love social distortion , love all rock music , no matter what style, they were one of the bes
Ness has that feeling in his voice.. Love this dude!
This is the definitive performance of this song. Change my mind.
I saw them on this tour and this is better!
Live at the Roxy slaps too
This song help me get through a lot of hard times.
WHO'S STILL WATCHING THIS IN 2018 AND STILL GETTING GOOSEBUMPS?!?!? WOWWWWW
Colinnnnn me. I love it
Been watching for years, still, 2018, one of the best performances I've seen in my life. Fucking social distorion for life!

This song is great
U don't like this... U SUCK! Period!
I'm a long time SxDx Fan and the reason is, Mike pours his friggin' heart out with every lyric he sings and every chord he plays! Fan till I die.

You can't fix stupid
.....Thank you dad for raising me on Distortion.
I grew up with a dad who loves social d , Johnny and Merle to name a few
Son, is that you?
Every time I hear this song, it makes me think of my son, who also has had years of drug addiction problems & prison/jail time. A real guy singing about real shit...so flawlessly that the pain is palpable. The greatest yet most underrated musician of my lifetime.
Best song writer of my generation
Me to I know what you're saying 40 years of this shit prison drugs death so tried
Mike Ness lived it! That's why it hits' home brother.
Such a great version. I would love a full live album in this style.
"live at the roxy" is what you want, some of the live tracks on that are even better than the studio versions.
Tau Tauson thanx ^-^
+Tau Tauson it's live, but I wouldn't say it's in "this style." At least IMO. Roxy was a more typical live performance, in that the songs were played at roughly the same speed as the recordings. But this is slowed down quite a bit, which makes it more bluesy and soulful, I feel.
The "Roxy" rocks.
sillypenta said the same
Still watching this in 2019! I grew up on Social Distortion.
What an incredible song. What an incredible version.
The band has matured. As we all do. Greatest version of prison bound I know
I love the fact he dedicates this to his son. There is a version that Julian is actually on stage. It's cool t see a guy like him who's been thru so much come back around and show that he understands family I sso important. Love the style these guys have too.
your do realize it's a song about being in prison. you dont find that a little odd?
Best band ever. Listening to them for 40 years. Just keep getting better.......
This group got in my blood on the first listen!....extremely talented musicians..
Jonny wearing a Gaslight Anthem shirt, nice to see the old guys appreciate the new guys!!
PS. Great version!!!
Still does it for me and im63! A fan for life!Mike Ness is a great composer and guitar ist
A true instant classic. This is a badass American punk rock & roll.
Just punk I remember when I first heard his music I was blown away never will there ever be a Mike Ness . I met him in a parking lot in Toronto before a show .. it was during his country music stuff
Punk-N-Roll!
My friend gave me a recorded cassette of these guys in '91 and I've been hooked since.
Underrated as hell band. I love this. Hell yes 2018 still here . About to see them again since 90s here in Memphis again !
He's a class act.
WE NEED A SOCIAL D FULL LENGHT "UNPLUGGED" RECORD.
Nope - the more Distortion the betteRRRRRRRRR
With a bluesy harmonica dude for their bluesiest songs. Oh yeesh!🔥👌
@@j.dviant Amen!
@@JeffreyPillow hell yeah man. Social d has a unique blend of blues/punk/country/rockabilly. From their "lude boy/mainliner" days to present. Good shit. Cant get enough of their work.
We just need a new record period. They have a good tour following....I just don't get why they can't get new material out on at least a semi-regular basis.... I mean, he's been talking a new record for YEARS.... what's up?
Back in 2010 I think it was in Saskatoon,SK my wife and I got snuck in the back door of a club and got to hear Mr. Ness singing this during their sound check. Then waited in a rain back alley for 4 hours just to meet him. But we finally met him at his bus. Greatest day of my life.
Greater than your wedding day, lol? You mention your wife, so I'm concerned you're headed for the dog house. But if she's a SD fan, then she'd probably understand, and maybe feel the same!
I was there too! Met him too. Had him sign a hat.
Sounds shit.
This song got me through before I went to jail and while I was inside. I love Social D and always will.
This is art. simple, rock swing beat, with perfect harmonies and melody. Fuckn love Social Distortion
If it wasn’t for my Dad, I’d never know anything about Social D. Mxpx helped solidify my love for this band. Ness never disappoints.
Well, I'm goin' to a place where the tough guys go
And come out even tougher.
A place where a man don't show his feelings,
A place where a man don't cry.
Well they say I'm being punished
And they say I can be reformed
But some day I'll return.
Did they really think that
This time it would work.
You knew all along it wouldn't
Oh, I'm prison bound
I did a crime one too many times.
It's on the outskirts of town, by the railroad tracks
Where the country moon shines.
Oh, I'm prison bound
Tell my girl I'll be back one day.
Oh, I'm prison bound
I may never know any other way.
Well, they take away my freedom of expression or action
Johnny says I'll walk the line
With three hots and a cot
And a lot of talk
With lock-up, concrete, and steel.
Well it's cold and it's clammy
Man, it's colder than a pimp's heart
But I've gotta do my time
There's a lesson to be learned here
But what a price to pay.
You know, I may never learn-
Oh, I'm prison bound
I did a crime one too many times.
It's on the outskirts of town, by the railroad tracks
Where the country moon shines.
Oh, I'm prison bound
Tell my girl I'll be back one day.
Oh, I'm prison bound
I may never know any other way.
My favorite band of all time, I will NEVER ever get tired of listening to them!!
Still so good, even though I've heard this song 8 billion times.
I have loved this man almost my whole life. I'm so thankful for love he has received and given to all. Still the coolest man ever
I ❤this version of prison bound!
Love Social D, I thank my father for everything. He raised me in genuine punk rock such as Black Flag, Social D, Misfits, The Clash, Bad Brains, Rollins Band & The Ramones. Thanks Dad :)
Love the lead solo The last measure at the end is so perfect for the song
I am not planning to go anytime soon. But this and I was wrong will be in my living will to play at my funeral... I waited 30 years to go see them play. I went alone and was up front. Singing songs that mean so much to me with him.. after his cancer diagnosis...
im 62 been listening to these guys for years i never get tiered of them
Mike is just pure LEGEND!
This song this version is my favorite song performance ever!
Being a PTSD SURVIVER,

Absolutely love the piano intro! Just classic! Call it what you want. Social Distortion are one of the greatest examples of just TRU rock & roll !!!
Loved this GDamn song for many years now!
Still relevant in my life to this day grew up wit them n now my daughters r listening to them love em!!!! Love how mike ness dedicates it to his son Julian n has even performed it wit him!!
His son is a mirror image of him
Love this song and the guitare tone on the solo is awesome.
omg...this is flawless...
I used to see them when they where a garage band in Fullerton I was a teenager
Fullerton Toker Town, Right!?
Wow
WHO'S STILL WATCHING THIS IN 2019?
me
Every day
Why wouldn't you still be listening!?
yo!!
Me
How could there possibly be thumbs down? This is perfect
+Jeremy Shutrump Easy....some people born with a faulty gene in their DNA. That's the only reason I see for some of them like "things" like well all the rubbish we can listen to when we turn the radio on.
thumbs down were all the Justin beiber and one direction fans and all the Madonna fans
Some people are just stupid.
Maybe their ears are broken; or maybe they just wouldn't know great music even if it punched them in the face, lol.
Was a sellout and got rich, thats not what it was about , way back when.
Woah!! That guitar sounds so nice.
This tune and “Reach for the Sky”. I can watch this over and over and love it even more.
Definition of a rock star. Amazing version found on accident. Two times a day for about two months now.
There's no mistaking this sound.
Absolutely the coolest version of this song
Awesome!! My treasure is to listen to their song. Social D is always helping me.
The second voices of 'Two Bags' and 'Brent Harding' are absolute brilliant!
Freakin' great Version of this classic!
That's David Hidalgo Jr. killing it on the drums.
One of my alltime fav bands. Get well
Amazing awesome. I cannot express my feeling exactly because I'm not native English speaker. But I think definitely this is the greatest song.
2020 and they still tear that shit up...SoCal classic.
This is a great video for showing off how vital the drums are to Social D. I think the drummer here is David Hidalgo Jr., or at least that's what fits with the timeline I found. I'm glad whoever did the video edit here gave the drums their due. Usually the drums get just a few cuts. It's worth taking another view to concentrate on just the drums. That's really fine work, considering the idea for the song was for the drums to be strong throughout the song, provide the clarity and punctuation that the guitars don't, but to never fully take over. They integrate really well, and on record, if you don't concentrate on the individual contributions you can easily miss the importance of the drums- there are no "here, look at me !" drum solos.
I haven't seen S.D. in at least 8 years now, but they sound great here. The first time I saw them was about 1991- about the time "Ring of Fire" was getting them a lot of exposure. Screaming Trees opened, in case anyone remembers them. As I remember it was in some big box in Irvine that seemed like a gym. I was a teenager, and that show was my "advanced beginner" practice with mosh pits. It was sweaty and intense, but I didn't get hit in the face so I was happy. The fans were all pretty cool. Just the normal accidents.
I kept trying to get mosh cred through high school, pushing forward and being brave. Then I had a bad experience at a Skinny Puppy concert that ended my mosh career. Some guys make it their whole mission in life to beat the crap out of any noobs they see. And when your a pretty skinny high schooler with no tattoos, you're really asking for trouble if you try to scrap with the big boys. I would advise anyone going to a loud and violent sounding band to try to research first how violent their fans are. Some good bands have a LOT of dick fans. I wouldn't really know about today's bands, since I'm now a fossil, but just try to know what you're getting into.
screaming trees! Mark Lanegan and Mike Ness on the same night ? Gravel tastic! haha
Darth Barbie you're fucking lame hahaha "mosh career" lol gtfoh hahaha
Thanks for the drummers name that guy is bad ass.
His dad is the legendary David Hidalgo from Los Lobos.
The fact that you don't really know who the drummer is totally undermines the rest of the post
SD brings me home every time.... warm fuzzies and goosebumps 🥰
Social D is one of the best bands of all time they absolutely fucking kill
It’s March 19 and still listening to SD.... story of my life!
Absolutely the best, graduated from La Habra in 89
I still think this is the best version of this song out there. One of my favorites made even better.
Just amazing... the man's voice is sacrosanct.
Really respectfull band. Long life
Fantastic performance! Long live these guys! Wish Mike Ness a fast recovery.
Went to see them live for my 18th birthday. Freaking amazing concert. Probably one of the best times I've ever had.
Right on. Saw them at a small venue a couple years back, great live band.
Junior Henderson Nice. Mike ness has such a good stage presence. It was a small venue as well at this old theater. Atmosphere was fantastic.
***** Great to know the band is cutting across generations. Saw them at the Orange Peel, a small venue in Asheville in 2013, and ended up a few feet back front and center from the stage. Best show I've seen in at least a couple decades.
i saw them in detroit just this august. amazing
I have seen them live probably 10 or more times, before and after we lost Dennis Dannell. We all miss Dennis of course, but gotta love that they gained Jonny "Two-Bags". Anyway, without a doubt my favorite live band ever. The songs move me the same now as they did in 1990.
2020 and this song still rocks!!!!!
👍👏👏👏👏
been a listener for 20 plus..been to prison 8 of those...ain't going back...life is good now..peace, love, hippy grease...=]
At 38 Mike Ness is still the coolest guy I ever saw....just so damn cool.
RIP Dennis.
THIS IS A FUCKING MATERPIECE !!!
