one political party can cause so much damage. Keir isn't going to solve these issues, but I will be pissed if that allows the Tories to get away with just being almost illogically evil
What are you talking about? Starmer will invest money in UK construction projects, which will lead to an increase in jobs and tax revenue, which can then be used to fund the NHS and build 1.5 million houses
@@buolindo8795 labour always shoves the country into debt, and they always raise taxes to an unnecessary level. (I'm not a tory supporter, but I'm still someone who chooses to actively piss on Labour)
I'm not british, I'm belgian, but I'm really sadden to see the UK in such a bad shape. I remember going to London and Canterbury with school back when brexit wasn't still a thing and it was so amazing, I wanted to visit and see more of your amazing country. I hope for the best for you all, and that comment, along with a thumb up will hopefully help this video to be watch by more people.
I am British and I live in probably one of the nicest places to live in England (The Peak District). But this country is shit, why should I vote for an unjust government that doesn't care what happens to its own people. Its also the same as fighting for the country, no one wants to protect a flawed system that doesn't listen. If you come to England again anyway I highly recommend somewhere in the countryside or up north. Also London is a shit hole, most cities in this country are.
@@senpaisniper2796and that’s why Wales and Scotland need independence. The Celtic nations are being dragged down by England and there identity crisis. 🏴 🏴
I know a guy who always keeps telling me that it is unacceptable that politicians can just lie and not fufill their promises without any consequences. Such as Boris saying how they could fund the NHS if they leave the EU. It is also sad that people will blindly vote without ever doing a single search about who they are electing.
I know it's been said before, but it does often feel like the House of Commons places more of weight on calling someone a liar, than they do on MPs actually lying. An inquiry recommending a suspension is simply not enough of a punishment, and more is absolutely needed in order to stop the next Boris Johnson from being able to walk away without any repercussions
I think the worst part is that from everything I can tell, they don't even believe what they are saying, it's more about trying to either stop people voting for someone else, or to disincentivise people from voting at all. It's predicted that this election is going to have a low turn out, and that's partially due to 14 years of certain conservatives trying to paint every politician as being as morally bankrupt as they are
The economy is beginning to pick up again, if we can invest in key infrastructure in five years we might be able to fix some things but getting the mountain of burning trash back in order will take more than 5 years
My entire life has been during the reign of the tories, despite their weaponised incompetence for the past 8 years and 49 days it woul dbe very nce to see something different ( i was an 08 kid so i cant even vote so if you guys could tell the tories to fuck off for me thatd be amazing)
I think your analysis about how the fall of Johnson was a point of anti-thesis in the shaping of post Cameron Tory, by saying “the party changed from the cult of personality to seeing Johnson as a vulnerability”, was a very important and interesting point. Thank you for making this video
Great video. It's not just PM's though, the rot is deep. That PM's who are outlasted by vegetables can retire on a free massive salary and install cronies in the house of Lords is a disgrace.
I absolutely agree. I wish I had more time when making this video to fully cover the extent of blatant cronyism on display, or the packing of the house of lords to resemble an American court. We do need change, and I hope that labour were serious when they were talking about reformation to the house of Lords in particular
Yeah, that really makes me sick. My dog would have done a better job than her, and he is so stupid he's scared of the noise of his own farts! There should be a probationary period. Most working people have to have one when they start a job, why not the people in power?
I stumbled on this video by pure chance (I'm Russian, but interested in moving to UK). Watched until the end. It's scary how the situation in your country starts to resemble the state of Russia for as long as I remember. Hopefully you'll get through it and start building a better future!
Hopefully things will start to look up, it'll take a bit of time to repair, but i'm cautiously optimistic about Britain's future (provided the Tories lose all their seats)
im almost 20 i registered to vote and will be voting for the first time no one in my family ever votes, tactical voting is my plan i just want these tories to go i grew up under them and its ridiculous they still have power
I think that unfortunately with the cycle of politics, things move so quickly we tend to forget very easily. I remember thinking that the RAAC concrete scandal would be the final nail in the coffin, and yet a few weeks later nobody was even talking about it. I guess sometimes it's good to have a reminder
Firstly a thank you to Banquo for putting together this video essay, this has clearly been well researched and helps to provide a good understanding of the current political situation the untied kingdom is currently under. This has helped me to better inform myself for the up coming elections and has reinforced my view that the Tories needs to be removed from Parliament and new parties brought in to bring about much needed change for the whole country. I have taken the time to read the comments and seen many comments about independence for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, while this is not the proper place for a full discussion I felt it important to leave my own opinion here for others to see so they can make look further into the situation to make a more informed decision for themselves. yes it is true that England has often voted differently to Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. that is due to our own failing for not looking into details further, doing our own research and making correctly informed decisions, instead we have allowed the news and politicians to say what they would like the public to hear, taking it as gospel and acting only on limited information. this is after all, part of the reason the Tories were allowed to be in power for all these years, while there are certainly people who did look into things further, they were unfortunately in the minority and therefore did not make a big enough impact in comparison to the blind masses who allowed the Tories to have their cake and eat it. This of course has added fuel to the fire for the independence movements across the country, as they feel that they have not been represented in government and feel it best to strike out on their own and make their own path into the future. they certainly have merits for this justification and that this has not been helped by those in power, often trying to play down the issue rather actually tackle the issue. After all they are far to busy eating that cake they have been given by the blind masses who voted them into power. it is at this juncture that I would like to point out the shared history that this country has, from the earliest days of settlement, to the times when the Vikings, Romans and Normans came to the uniting of the whole country under one monarchy. For the longest time this country was divided into multiple nations that would scrape amongst themselves until they were finally united under common leadership, this common leadership has has it ups and downs but always tired to bring the whole country together, to stand as one on the global stage and make a impact on the world around it. And what a impact we were able to achieve, from being the lead country on the industrial evolution to running a empire that covered a 1/4 of the world at one point, to helping to create the united states of America by being the big bad guy for them at the time when they needed it and then being one of their friends afterwards, to standing up against tyrants to support freedom and liberty and at one point being one of the few country's that Nazi Germany could not conquer and the only country left in the Europe to be able to mount effective large scale resistance. Were we perfect, of course not, we had our own issues back then as well, the colonisation of Africa and participation in the slave trade, the opium wars, the moving of prisoners to Australia. I could go on but this is long enough as it is. This point I am trying to put across is that in my opinion, we should not view this country as 4 separate countries, as one country made up of various parts, the united kingdom is one of the original melting pots of the world, having numerous cultures, religions and languages within it (even if the majority of us default to English, which in itself is a combination of various languages). this I believe has only allowed the country to become stronger, and we are at our strongest when we stand together united in our shared belief that by working together we will make that better future for the younger generations. This is were we loop back to the current government, as we have allowed them to divide the people up and allowed our greatest strength to stagnate and break down, robbing us of a unified national identify, I fear that if this were to continue we would see the break down of the united kingdom into separate countries, who would inevitably distrust each other and eventually lead to conflict, war and death. This cannot be allowed to continue, there have been times throughout our history where the people have stepped in and either removed the government from power, or brought the government back in line and limited them as required to maintain peace and prosperity . I believe this upcoming election is just such a time, it is time for the whole country to step up and loudly remind the government that they are to represent the people, not control them, I believe the best way to do this would be to replace all Tory seats with other parties, if this leads to a coalition government, it will still be far superior than anything the Tories could put together at this point. At the end of the day this is just the opinion of a single person of this united kingdom, just one voice amongst millions, let us as a single country remind the government that every voice matters, not just the 1%. Thank you once again to Banquo for putting together the video and to anyone who read this comment, thank you for taking the time to read my opinion. if you choose to reply I will try to reply back within the next 24 hours.
I'm glad you liked it! Honestly I'm always worried my vids will just kinda die off because what youtube does and doesn't push content-wise doesn't seem very clear. Hopefully a couple more people will see it before the election though
@@banquo yeah, I totally understand that. It's super unfair how some random, BS video from some channel that never uploads gets millions of views but then highly produced, deeply researched and professionally presented goes nowhere! RUclips defo has a selection bias going on too. It baffles me at some of the content they try to suppress! Hope it all goes well, best of luck to you!;
As a UK citizen, all I feel when I look at UK politics is disgust. I know there's someone behind it all pulling the strings, but that's doesn't lessen the feeling.
I'm shocked that this video only has 15k views in a week, this video needs more attention and I genuinely think more people need to stand up for their rights and freedoms, ones that parties like the Tories want to take away. We need to do everything in our power to remove them from their positions and rebuild Britain back to a country that isn't seen as a massive circus. I was born in 2003, so I couldn't vote during Brexit but I can vote now, and I know I need to do my part for the betterment of our country, even if I have to vote for a party I don't agree with. Anything to boot the Tories.
This was a pretty great video and I'd love to watch one giving your take on Corbyn's leadership, Starmer, Corbyn's removal from the party, and whether Starmer actually stands a chance of changing this country for the better (I won't lie to you, I don't think he will - I'd much rather have Corbyn given another chance where he's not bombarded with questions on Brexit and can instead push for real change in government).
Loved the video. It’s just a shame that the time for change passed a long time ago. It’s not just the politics that are broken in our country. If you’re working age now, the best thing you can do is get an exit plan. Marry a European, retrain in a needed field abroad, do something to help you go live a better life where you buy a home and call it yours. It doesn’t pay to work hard here anymore and the 2 party system is a choice of a dogshit sandwich or baguette.
Awesome video, your best one yet! I feel like while you could've spent hours listing everything that has taken place over these 14 years (and god knows I would've listened to a video essay on the conservative reign) I feel like this is a perfect balance of keeping things concise and giving enough of an idea for people to be able to make informed decisions while also being a springboard to go further in researching using the sources you listed. Great work!!
Why would you vote for a party that is Tory adjacent after the last 14 years? Nigel Farage is not a beacon of change. It's very easy to have strong rhetoric and an un-costed plan, Boris Johnson did much the same, but Farage is very much just more of the same. Reform are dealing with Tories jumping ship from their own party, while also having to remove racists a couple days before the election. They are not the party of change, just more of the same.
@@banquoanother leftist. I’ve seen more common sense and actual planning when it comes to economy, Immigration, the military industrial complex from reform than Labour lol. Starmers debate with Sunak revealed that he has no idea what to do next. The only reason Labour will win this election is because people hate the tories so much, but when Labour inevitably become incompetent, Reform will win the next election. People are sick and tired of modernity, and all the failures it has brought to the west, specifically Britain.
This my first national election I can vote for myself as well. I will probably vote reform because they appear at least vaguely right-wing (unlike the tories) but if I find out my area for whatever reason is contentious I will vote labour just so I can see a zero seat Tory party.
Reform, why? Unfortunately far-right-wing parties like this are generally self serving and only use minorities and immigrants as scapegoats and never really solve problems, voting them is like voting for super Tories and for bunch of rich gits (Dear old Nigel's net worth is 4 million btw) to get richer.
@@banquo Labour and the Left in general seem to want to join the EU again which I feel wouldn't work since Britain has ties to it's former empire that a very developed economically and culturally. Leaving that behind to become the third wheel to France and Germany would limit the country geopolitically and economically imo. Immigration that the Tories failed to properly handle is still a problem and Labour would never stop immigration since immigrants largely vote Labour. I think a populist party like Reform is a better candidate for tackling that issue since it seems to be Farage's only reason for continuing to draw breath. Finally I suppose moral reasons since I am somewhat socially conservative I think Labour wouldn't really embody my worldview. I have never liked right-wing economics (probably because I am from the North) but I am willing to look past that since all parties are basically the same economically speaking.
I wish this country had a solid, socialist, progressive option so I could actually feel proud to vote and not just pick whichever party will do the least damage.
I feel the same. I would love to tick a box without wondering if I was doing the right thing. I'd love to know how it feels to have confidence in who I am voting for.
You should look to see if you've got any green candidates or plaid, in your area. They're a bit rough around the edges but by far the most progressive we have.
@@putincatboy I don't hate the greens but I don't think they're an effectual left wing party, and I don't like their stance on nuclear power. That being said they're definitely the best party overall.

My best hope is that we get a reform / libdem opposition that will pressure the incoming labour hegemony into reforming the electoral system from fptp to pr or something better. I know reform want to remove fptp and my friend tells me that libdems want to do the same so if that happens then we can hopefully move into a new age of voting where your vote actually matters and tactical voting doesn't become a necessary option.
@@mmfood3004I mean that is a possibility that Farage is just grifting which would be a sad fate for the populists of old Blighty and the reform party would just become conservatives 2.0 but you know a man’s gotta hope.

@@banquolabour won't fix anything. conservatives and labour are two sides of the same coin and they both ruin britain. all of these parties and not one will fix britain, we are too far gone.
Looking at the policy documents I want to vote reform but I might have to vote labour just to get rid of my local torie, feels so bad it's come to this
Personally my problem with this video is the final message, or at least my interpretation of it: vote whoever is more likely to beat the tories in a election. I guess anything is better than them at this point, even a cabbage
Ultimately I'd say check out stopthetories.vote put your postcode in and see which candidate is most likely to beat out your local conservative. Hopefully that will allow for other parties making major gains while the tories get less than a hundred seats (hopefully)
I'm not sure who to vote for. I'm not impressed with Labour either, and I'm being asked by a family member living abroad to vote Reform on his behalf since I told him I didn't have much confidence in any of them. All I know is the people in power destroyed the hopes, careers and support of millions of Britons, including me. Sure, there are factors outside their control, but they responded with p*ss poor judgement on so many occasions. They are not worthy of our regard. They dont deserve to set foot in parliament. So voting tactically is the way to go it seems.
I agree, the people in power currently, have run the country into the ground. The fact that Sunak benefitted from the Cost of living crisis and then thought he'd make a fitting leader is beyond disgusting. That being said, part of the trick of the Tories and the media that supports them, is that when they mess up, They try and paint every politician as the same. They use people's apathy as a weapon, leading to low turn out which usually helps them stay in power, as people don't think things will change. I understand why people aren't happy with Labour, but I think they are quite different from the Conservatives. Keir Starmer gave a good speech at the launch of his manifesto (ruclips.net/user/livegyna0dYUUSI?si=el9iYS3zTafK84QW&t=3279) He talks about change for the people the Tories have been hurting for the past 14 years. Telling stories of the people hurt by Truss' mini-budget and a government not just for the people of London, but for the people of the UK. I think Reform are presenting themselves as new players, but Nigel Farage is the same Rich Banker he has always been. Under UKIP, he was promising us the world if we went through with Brexit, but now that we have, we're all worse off and struggling to stay afloat. I think Reform UK are a more extreme conservative party, but they don't represent change, just more of the same, especially when a lot of current conservatives start jumping ship to reform. It will likely be the conservative party under a different name. In the end though, I think tactical voting is the only way to go for this election. With all of us uniting under the banner of being Anti-Tory. (Sorry for the long comment, but thank you for reading)
Just please don't vote reform, they are no better and in-fact are much worse. It would be like voting for Tories, but extra racist. Immigrants don't cause all our problems, the Tories did!
As someone voting for the first time, I would have voted Reform if they ran in my constituency but none of the major parties do so I'll just be voting alliance.
He speaks as Britain is one nation. We’re not. Britain is made up 3 countries that being Wales, Scotland and England. And the UK includes Northern Ireland. We all have devolved governments and all have different political views. For instance Wales and Scotland have always voted for left wing parties in majority. Whereas England have always voted for right wing parties. But the political system in the UK favours England so whatever government England votes for, is what the Celtic nations get. Now for someone being from England this might not seem an issue. But believe me it is for the Celtic nations and it is massively fuelling the independence movement.
But genuinely, how should this be approached by the country if Britain? Should we create and enforce borders between England and Wales and England and scottland? Should we create new trade agreements between eachother as well? I'm genuinely not mocking or saying you can't or shouldn't but I struggle to see the actual benefit to the island as a whole? I mean we are literally about to get a left af majority in parliament and I don't think anyone is really that happy about it Again I'm not trying to be a dick but please help me understand what the overall vision/goal of the uk separating is and who and how it'll positively affect people's lives ?
One point I think is important that you missed is that Penny Mordaunt is highly likely to be the next leader. But honestly it could still be anyone that you mentioned, worst case scenario Nigel Farage joins and leads
Let's keep this on record, so we remember to never vote Tory again! We should also not ever vote Reform either, don't forget their party played a large part of this mess, i.e. Brexit crap.
@@banquo I don't think the mainstream politicians will do anything to improve my life so I would spit in their face metaphorically by voting someone who holds the rest of them in contempt
I've lost trust in politics completely. Whether right-wing, or left-wing, i just cant bear it anymore. The entire circus is doing my head in. I don't really feel a sense of connection to the country anymore. I don't know who to trust, so it feels justified to me to just not trust either side. A blanket distrust of politics as a whole. Left and right.
The conservatives are a mess. But labour is not the solution either, they started the problem skyrocketing immigration and excessive spending, conservatives intensified it. Brexit wasn't the problem, is was needed. Europe imposed numerous restrictions in UK's ability to self-govern, and was the country that least benefited from the union. Now we have the autonomy, I really hope this labour government does well for the sake of this country.
I hate this tory bad so vote Labour we promise we aren't as bad oh ffs they all know each other and all they care is about there pockets no matter of its labour, tory, lib dem green or reform
@gordonramsdale Yeah, however, they are a company, not a party, which will move to benefit more multi-national corporations which buy up lands and spread filth and waste everywhere, and thus become so powerful, they gain a monopoly over markets and can then influence our very politics. They are a hard neoliberal party, so this means driving down costs and upping profit, so it'd be in their best interest to privatize the NHS too, which I know it seems small there policy of giving coupons to go private, but that will help in that final goal, plus most tax benefits would help the rich more than the populace. Finally, whether they actually do what they say is another issue.

Vote reform.
They always promise the world... (to themselves).
I think the worst part is that from everything I can tell, they don't even believe what they are saying, it's more about trying to either stop people voting for someone else, or to disincentivise people from voting at all. It's predicted that this election is going to have a low turn out, and that's partially due to 14 years of certain conservatives trying to paint every politician as being as morally bankrupt as they are
Why do they call it a political party if they're not going to have any parties?
Oh they do, they just wait until they can violate their own guidelines beforehand.

Great video, glad the algorithm brought me here.

I'm shocked that this video only has 15k views in a week, this video needs more attention and I genuinely think more people need to stand up for their rights and freedoms, ones that parties like the Tories want to take away. This is why you Vote Reform.
I’ve seen more common sense and actual planning when it comes to economy, Immigration, the military industrial complex from reform than Labour lol. comment for the algorithm
Oh, I absolutely love it when I don't feel represented by any mainstream party and have to pick the lesser evil every time
This my first national election I can vote for myself as well. I will probably vote reform because they appear at least vaguely right-wing (unlike the tories) but if I find out my area for whatever reason is contentious I will vote labour just so I can see a zero seat Tory party.
If you don't mind me asking, after the tories, what is it that makes you want a right wing government over a more Liberal / Left wing parliament?

Reform are lying to you and it's genuinely sad how many people can't see through Nigel the Grift machine
@@mmfood3004I mean that is a possibility that Farage is just grifting which would be a sad fate for the populists of old Blighty and the reform party would just become conservatives 2.0 but you know a man’s gotta hope.

Who should we vote for?
Anyone but the torries
Ultimately I'd say check out stopthetories.vote put your postcode in and see which candidate is most likely to beat out your local conservative. Hopefully that will allow for other parties making major gains while the tories get less than a hundred seats (hopefully)
Libdems or greens.
we are doomed
Anyone but Tories or reform
please do one on all the parties
That man with a moustache looks so much like Stalin!! Dictatorship equals the government since the Brexit Vote.
@@banquo lmao you're pathetic

Nice good video
I mean we are literally about to get a left af majority in parliament and I don't think anyone is really that happy about it
Again I'm not trying to be a dick but please help me understand what the overall vision/goal of the uk separating is and who and how it'll positively affect people's lives ?
One point I think is important that you missed is that Penny Mordaunt is highly likely to be the next leader. But honestly it could still be anyone that you mentioned, worst case scenario Nigel Farage joins and leads
Should I vote the green or the leftists after this video?
Let's keep this on record, so we remember to never vote Tory again! We should also not ever vote Reform either, don't forget their party played a large part of this mess, i.e. Brexit crap.

@@cobraking1195 yes
@dontworry2379 Just a question, do you know what they are? Or their policies?
@@cobraking1195 In fairness their economic policies are actually pretty good, tax cuts for working and middle class.
