But let be honest, China manufacturers come and go very fast, they are always changing names, merging, acquiring with other companies... Some of them sell just outside china, some of them sell only in china because of the supply chain issue and of course, if it is there, it'll be always cheaper than ANYWHERE ELSE to make anything they want (design changes, product improvements, upgrading the production line etc)

Bulletproof, 350ish lbs and near 50hp. I'm glad they took it to Dakar, as chinese welding and metal standards are always suspect. The reason I'd still veer away from it and to the DRZ or Tenere would simply be resale value. DRZ's hold great resell value and new chinese bikes typically hit the toilet pretty quick.

Lets all be honest. GPX has been putting out some fantastic equipment for the past few years, at an astounding price, and it just keeps getting better. They're a company that actually takes rider input to heart and improves on their product. Sometimes within the same model year. CFMoto is another company that is changing the game. I don't knock China when they actually try. And they're trying. Boy are they trying.

A 450, in my mind, is a great size and that power to weight, plus fuel range puts my 2008 KLR 650 to shame. I built out a 690 Enduro R as a TAT/BDR bike because nothing else seemed to fit. What I really wanted, though, was a Dakar Rally inspired bike that could take some light luggage and go the distance. Thank you for this review and for being open about your struggles. I've had a son and a nephew in similar situations, both have seen Psalms 23 and come out the other side. God's richest blessings to you and your family.

For those curious, based on the manual pdf on GPX Website maintenance intervals are as follows:
Fuel filter: Every 6,000 miles or every year
Valve clearance: Every 30 hours/1200 miles
Engine oil/filter: every 300mi for first 1200 miles; Replace every 1200 miles afterwards
    Coolant: Every 2 years/18,000 miles
Shock oil: Every 3,100 miles/100 hours
Everything else is check/inspect and replace as needed. These numbers are also conversions from km to miles. Overall I feel like these intervals would be very short if it was a regular dual sport or adv bike, but it's a rally bike so honestly they're not terrible.

That's one of the most worrying aspects when it comes to chinese bike's reliability .. is this a translation error ? is this caused by the differencies in climate and geo between states/countries ? maybe the manufacturing tolerancies are different between chinese/USA/european etc markets ? I haven't yet figured it out, but it seems to happen quite often.. for example, when it comes to another chinese manufactured bike, the Voge 300 Rally (sold in Europe/Asia - Voge is a subsidiary of Loncin), its manual depicts different service intervals from one EU country to another, even though these countries have the same climate/geological conditions ...

That 175 lb number is not a max weight for the bike, it is the rider weight of the springs. As any experienced rider knows, 250 lb riders need different springs than do 125 lb riders. The factory springs on most bikes are for 150 to 175 lb riders. Every 25 lb increase or decrease necessitates a change of springs; this is true for every brand of off road bike.

You have great production techniques and values. Re: the bike. It's the same price and service intervals as the 450L (yes 450L needs a vortex to run properly), but i'm guessing there isn't one simple fix all the Kove's issues, which we are yet to fully guage (didn't the transmission fail on the other video test ?) Also it was 360lbs without fuel in the other test as well and it was stated that they dont really have emissions equipment yet as they were still working out what was needed to pass all states registration requirments ? So the versions we get could be much less powerful. Also most people decork the KTM so I feel that the Koves shortcoming weren't really demonstrated there. Not sure if ADV riders really want to rev their bike to access the power either ? Anyway, I think the bike is the beginning of a long term success story, but blinking lights dodgy fuel gauges etc leads me to think it's going to be a high risk purchase for a while until people clock decent hours on final producton versions. Look forward to hearing some long term reviews of it.

thank you for the in-depth review and for not being afraid to give praise where it is due. I deal with a lot of Chinese manufacturers and have found that they are more than able to outperform any competition in their field but are restrained by the foreign companies they are contracted by to stay cheap. if you want to avoid cheap short-cuts in your purchases stop buying from companies that are willing to outsource their products to save money instead of doing it right themselves.

All this talk about quality, possible racism, or politics……wtf ever happend to the golden rule? How about the fact that it is just blatant theft of design and engineering? How about that being the reason not to buy one?

Great video informative and seems very genuine. However, most already know that bikes exist that have very little emission such beta that out of the box are better but aren't as good once they are on equal emissions ground or plainly uncorked. As the Kove has 2 modules of bike full rally and the street version I didn't hear you mention what this module was and I didn't see a license place so I'm curious what insurance looks like in North America for the one you tested.. without insurance the bike useless IMO as it's too heavy to be an out/out dirt bike.. also not mentioned that it's great out in the desert one area it looks to not shine in comparison to Auzzy bikes is Canadian trails or harder enduro type stuff.. if we were to call any bike a unicorn dirt bike it should be fully capable not just great on fire roads or BDRs. All this said if it's great where you live I can appreciate that you would like it for yourself but it may not be right for everyone as it's a rally bike, not a dirt bike.. on a track, for example, your six days would kill it easy.. all depends on your interests, I ride for fun wheelies/jumps/harder stuff, it looks okay but limited on the trail, I'll stick to a dirt bike.

Well, now I'm even more excited! The dream of owning a factory rally bike replica has always seemed unattainable, but that seems to be changing. Thank you for the really in depth review and for being an early adopter. Really appreciate the current and forthcoming info on your experience. I hope this bike becomes hugely popular and pushes other manufacturers to get on the bandwagon!

Very well done research and video. I fully understand your way of combining the facts and to get this conclusion. Kove is doing a very wise approach to f*** the ignorance, arrogance and greediness of companies like KTM Group, BMW, Ducati (Audi) and others. Combined with an advantage of lower manufacturing cost and high availability of of technologies for a bike, they will slap these guys with every bike sold. Thanks for your open minded approach.

First time to your channel, nice review although bit long at times. I have been living in Asia for the past 15 years, my stable has few local 150s, the Rally 300 (racetech up front and YSS in the rear, so its no longer a soft pogo stick) and now a big thumper Royal Enfield 350. Everything is smaller here, speeds are lower and even the 150s work well. Since learning about the Kove 450, I have become a big fan of the entire project, the real story seems to be that the bike is made by riders for riders. I really hope the bikes live up to what is looking like a success story. I hope this will be repeat of the Japanese cars from years gone by story, considered cheap junk and look where they are now. For decades we have been ignored by the big names about producing bike like this, again I hope Kove makes them reconsider. I am looking forwards to your adventures with the bike and wish you all the best with it. I would like to own one of these some day, I don't need the hard core off road model (too old and I don't live where you live), i believe there is a less off road oriented model as well.
As for CCP, yes evil, but take a look at our gov through clear lenses. Rome is burning, like all empires, USA is collapsing. Like all collapsing empires, tyranny, spying, lying, collapse of currency, standard of living collapse, violence in the street, division of society.......is used to extend the burning. Like always, they take you to war and USA has been in a war forever, yes to spread democracy, what a bunch of sh*t. I miss America of the past, here once in a while I am reminded what true freedom is. In 15 years I have been stopped two times, once extorsion of $2, once selfie with the cops.

Beautiful, cool, detailed review. When do You take delivery? I wouldn't hesitate getting one, but i'm limited to just have one bike and i actually could put this Kove 450 Rally bike and the PR7 on the list one day, when it's time to go thumper braap again. Great to see that GPX are bringing these to the UK too, a shame that the currency exchange works out differently-£8500 = $10400. Also they’re supplied direct from the factory in the crate, so you have to transport it home and assemble yourself, which some might be a little intimidated by unless it’s quite minimal to build.

Not only will it be a great bike in its own right, it may actually awaken other brands from their slumber (are you listening KTM?) and they will start building similar bikes.

Tyler you forgot the most important rating, how stout is the kickstand‽
On a more serious note, I saw them in the Dakar daily reports but I thought they were an Indian brand coming to the table. Super interesting to see they're chineese and the quality that they managed to produce. Definitely interested and I'm curious to see where they take it. The price isn't far off a brand new DRZ these days with all the dealer markups (~8.4) and the Kove definitely stands head and shoulders over a stock DRZ feature-wise. I wonder if the price will go up with time like the GPX models did.

    • @eveRide

Jensen you sexy beast! Good to see you here in the comments :D The kickstand seems pretty stout! It's not a KTM kickstand, but still not as beefy as a DRZ lol! I think the Indian brand you're thinking of is "Hero" and they did REALLY well, but I haven't seen anything regarding mass produced versions of their rally bike. I do think the price will go up over time. GPX keeps adding features to their bikes (the 250 I own now is head and shoulders above the model I tested two years ago!)
