Thank you! I’m really pleased with it - there will still be some footage to get through that I shot with the old camera but looking forward to doing everything with this one that I shoot from now on
Great vid. Well done for showing the link between C10 and C4. Regarding the Millwall path, there have been some incidents after dark involving bikejackings and robberies, but the Met police have started increasing the number of patrols along the route. Hopefully that will resolve the issue.
Yes it’s surprising - I think that bit in Bermondsey is unusual in being in 90s style detached houses, but even the regular Victorian streets or whatever are surprisingly suburban
Re: Millwall, I cycle this route a lot - you do get a fair few shady characters around the station there...however, as you say, during the day there are always commuters about. I would avoid it outside regular hours and when C4 is completed I can avoid this route altogether for getting into town.
Great video and a really magical cycle route! Really like the architectural commentary too :D Cheers! Sadly I've not used that stretch of C10 as an evening commuter route since the news reports. Thankfully never actually witnessed any bike jacking but had some bad prior experiences including a motorcyclist riding head on towards me and also being assaulted by another cyclist. Having said that more regular cyclists at all times will make it safer for everyone so will endeavour to resume soon!!
Thanks Merlin - and very sorry to hear about those incidents, that doesn’t sound great! And I agree about safety in numbers, that’s one reason I’m a bit loathe to tell people definitely don’t go as it could end up making it dangerous. Think people will have to decide themselves
@@Londoncycleroutes I see but it's a bit pricey at the moment! I was actually watching a comparison video, the 10 seemed close enough, but also way better than what I currently use! I'll upgrade later I suppose!
I like how positive you sound. I love London diverse architecture and enjoy strolling around. My bike got nicked during COVID, but your videos make me want to buy another one and get back on the road.
🤙🏼 *Congrats on the camera upgrade* 🤙🏼 Good shout on the transparency regardin the Millwall Path 👏🏼👏🏼 Personally I tend to avoid goin down too many super quiet paths/times.
I have been hanging out for this video as I saw the start of that path being built last time I was in the UK. It's good to see it in use at last. What a fabulous view of the cutty sark and tunnel building. I lived in Greenwich as a child but always walked through town to get there sot his was a very revealing image for me.
Thanks for the video. I just cycled Greenwich to Hammersmith and it was 12 miles and 1hr 26 min. Mostly protected cycleways but there’s got to be a 1 hour door to door way
A route that I have actually been on before, great to revisit this route in 4K (!) and to see the new lanes on Evelyn Street, looks pristine. Being from Copenhagen, I do not actually recognise the blue paint as denoting side roads. It's primarily used in intersections to indicate continuing cycle lanes. Side roads (w/o an intersection) rarely, if ever, have that blue paint. But I think it makes more sense to do that in London as drivers are less cognizant of cyclists than in Copenhagen.
Woolwich is in the borough of Greenwich and it’s in southeast London, not east London which is on the opposite side of the Thames. I live about 3 miles from Woolwich near to Greenwich Park, and I don’t need to cross the river to get there. It’s good to see you get off your bike at Cutty Sark Gardens, most cyclists just ride straight at pedestrians and I’ve seen them riding through the foot tunnel beneath the Thames as well.
This video in particular fills me with so much nostalgia... I used to cycle this route while it was still Quietway 1 between work in Westminster and home in Charlton and it's by far the biggest part of living in London I miss the most. It makes me happy to see how much things have improved since I used it. I even struggled along through Greenwich and past the Blackwall tunnel junction before they built the absolutely lovely separated tracks. I would have adored those if I still lived there today!
I have a cycle hoop ( see video @ 11:40 mark ) in Queens park at the bottom of my street, love it, so convenient for leaving my bike. I pay £80/year for mine and I've had it two years now. The waiting lists are long though so my suggestion is if you ever see a new one being installed near where you live then put your name down on it in the first instance, like stop riding there and then, go online with your smartphone and do it ( Website, contact and hanger number is actually printed on the hanger itself ) this is how I got mine. Nice route though, I'll give this a try.
This is really good advice! A lot of councils are expanding their hanger fleet (if that’s the right word) now but demand still hugely outstrips supply. Big barrier to a lot of people cycling
One of my regular routes. The area is more east of Vauxhall than north as stated with Kennington, Lambeth North, Waterloo, Walworth, Elephant and Castle, and Old Kent Road in between. There are a couple of ways to bypass the Millwall/Den closure, so check during the football season when Millwall are playing at home. Overall a great route.
I think it’s going to be great when they finish the Woolwich to London Bridge section. Have you thought about doing some guided rides? I’d sign up for one, especially from or to south east London.
Very nice idea- it would require a lot of planning, I’ll have to think about it! I like the principle though. I’ve done similar stuff with friends and family and I’ve enjoyed it, so maybe it’s something that could work!
Yet again, another fantastic video. Shame about the dodgy path past the Millwall stadium. For novices and strangers to the area (like me) it would be great to see an alternative route which could bypass that stretch of the route. Also I’m looking forward to seeing a video of Walthamstow Central to the heart of London like Oxford Street or Leicester Square as the end point.
Nice camera, nice video! Beautiful street at 11:30 , shame most houses there will cost you millions! Also appreciated the comments about London and it's history!
Re C10 safety, had personal experience of what I believe were potential thieves just on the corner of Senegal & Surrey Canal Road in August. I was on an folding ebike and 2 men staggered one near the lights one and one further up the path talking to each other, assessing the bikes and asking each other to get 'that one'? Thankfully my bike didnt interest them (maybe targeting Bromptons?) but ill definitely look into going on C4 where possible getting back to Lewisham, when it opens up from London Bridge will be perfect. Also really appreciate the channel, your videos helped me figure out and start commuting to work by bike!
There were two recent reports in Hackney, a pregnant woman on an ebike was pursued by teenagers again shouting "that one" on Churchwell Path, she managed to get away. A woman was robbed at knife point in Mt Pleasant Rd Clapton of her Brompton in front of her young child. I'm glad I mostly ride old bikes covered in mud.
Really interesting thanks Rob - and sorry to hear about it, sounds like an unnerving situation, but glad you got out of it. Full C4 can’t come soon enough!
I find those tiny arrows quite hard to notice, although I remember riding through this area a couple of years ago and the wayfinding was tiny signs on lamp posts so it's an improvement. As a staunch north Londoner I'd probably cross Southwark bridge then use C3 and roughly follow NCN1 for this route. 🤣
There are some works taking place on lower road at the junction with Surrey Quays, not sure if they’re related, directly or indirectly. It is definitely funded, though given the delays with previous sections I wouldn’t be surprised if things took a while!!
Heh just as you start to tell us how much better the video will now look, my RUclips stream started to break up and I got a jerky version full of compression artefacts! 🙂
avoid that stretch of Q1 after dark at all costs - me and a friend were cycling home through it at around 8:30pm and were ambushed by a big group of young men waiting with bikes by south bermondsey station. thankfully we weren't attacked (i guess we got lucky) but i have heard stories of cyclists being knocked off their bikes and robbed at knifepoint by groups of men who fit the same description

Thanks for the video. I just cycled Greenwich to Hammersmith and it was 12 miles and 1hr 26 min. Mostly protected cycleways but there’s got to be a 1 hour door to door way

This is good and interesting to know, perhaps I had misunderstood! I think the purpose is the same but maybe a different application given the context
