    I think that Brompton have missed a couple of tricks with this bike hire thing;
    Firstly a six speed with a reduced size chainring would make it much more hill friendly and not add that much more to the cost.
    Secondly the saddle is set very forward and has been on every hire version I have seen (including the two I hired). I have never seen an 'owned' Brompton set up that way.
    The nuts on the Pentaclip are 'tamper proof' on the hire bikes, so you can't easily change the saddle position.
    I can't remember what format. Might be Torx drive.
    Excellent video by the way. I was amazed to note that it was 19.5mins long

      Thank you so much for the input and we’re both very aligned on this subject. I hope videos like this really allow Brompton to get feedback on these systems cause I don’t know how they currently get it.
      Completely agree I reckon ALL hire Bromptons should be 6 speed with their 44t chainring ring because why not make the bike as versatile and easy to ride as possible.
      Being paired with a 54t is a serious setup and I doubt anyone looking to hire them is planning to rack it up to full speed and get out the saddle much.
      The saddle is a joke!! I was first like “What do I do insert this in me!!!” That’s interesting didn’t look at the locking nut just assumed it was a standard hex but will look next time, great tip.
      I get they prob have to make them tamper proof because people will always try and steal things if they are easy to take but there is also a point a product becomes less practical because of it.

      A 6 speed (- Superlight) is originally that low in the gears, that I wondered for what use I would need the low gears, till I met one steep Danish serpentine road, on our rocky island of Bornholm in the Baltic, which forced me to walk at intervals, going up (Also because of a need to cross "cattle tubing", crossing the road at intervals)!!
      I did think of adding a double chainwheel in front (+ a shifter?), to my Brompton, but it will be without any practical purpose, just added weight, for its small useability 😆! Finn. Denmark

    As already pointed out, they are security minded features which will stop you from making adjustments and you can understand why they didn't put a toolkit on there because there would be a load of people getting a £65 toolkit for £5 as soon as word got out. There is another type of locker system that just uses a code and works fine without the delay. You are spot on with the rattle on the bell though, it drove me mad. The three speed is okay but the 6 would be better but I guess it would be a bit less intuitive for most people who might just get a Brompton as a one off. Don't forget that it is £5 for 24 hours as well so you can have it overnight and return it the following day and still have it only cost £5!

    • @TheBromptonGuy
      @TheBromptonGuy  Год назад

      Great comment and valuable input so thank you. My heart agrees with the toolkit and do understand why they aren’t standard but I would be such a good package if they were included.
      Will need to look out for the key codes because the other system felt obsolete.
      Finally yes £5 for 24 is phenomenal value for money!! Thanks for supporting

    I have wondered why the saddle is put that much forward? My now even much lighter, SuperlightM6LXBrompton is presently worked down to 9 kilo, with a lot of extra titanium and carbon, but with mudguards, so actually, why waste money on a much more expensive 4 speed T-line, with mudguards, which will come well over 8 kilo (I'm a "Rainy Dane"!!), as I have seen from films on RUclips! And my "Scandinavian Brompton" was delivered in the Shop, as Standard, with a 600mm black seat post, so why the telescope, which is extremely heavy, as it will have double tubing, plus an extra lock on the post (I know because I also have one, as extra, originally intended for use in my German B&W travel, transport box! A similar, Taiwanese, Joseph Kuosac post may be a little lighter?). Finn. Denmark

    • @TheBromptonGuy
      @TheBromptonGuy  Год назад

      The saddle apparently comes like that on a lot of the hired Bromptons!! Also another view said it has a security head like a Torx instead of the hex.
      9kilo is fairly impressive mate!! I've not weighted my Brompton but with my current mods I reckon closer to 15kilo. I'm working hard to try and get a T line but that's because I require one for lots of content and comparisons ideas I have.
      However whenever I manage to get a t line I will want a 42t titanium crank so maybe ill be in touch 😆
      Not sure If I said but I tried the extended and was still just a little short for me so ended up with the telescopic but agree the weight is an issue but would say the extra weight is worth a proper fitted bike. All the best Finn 👌🏻

      @@TheBromptonGuy When I wondered about eventually buying a folding Brompton I was then offered a Test Ride from a Repair Shop close to my home, which did repairs for a Family member, of foreign origin, having a Brompton Shop in Hellerup, north of Copenhagen. But when I then looked/searched for a bike, he had sadly closed his shop, so I bought my Bike from a Central Bike Shop, also selling Bromptons in Cph. It was during High Covid19, for the vacation money sawed by that.
      I would like to have a choice of several bikes to chose from, so that I didn't find out that I would rather have had another model! I then ended up with the former Top, a Flame painted 2019 "SuperlightM6LXBrompton", which has now been modified with extra Asian parts to well below, the last weighed 9 kilo!
      I was also told by a Dealer that Brompton hardly cared answering questions, so the Company didn't seem very minded on sales to the now "Cut Off" Continent! So I really don't care if most of my extra titanium and carbon parts on my bike are bought from Asia! Finn. Denmark
