Life is too short to be unhappy, my beautiful 25 year old daughter passed away a month ago. Nothing matters more than family and good friends, so get out of Denver and live the life you want to, because tomorrow may never come. Bikes can be replaced, time cannot please don’t waste your time being unhappy.

I got myself another brompton for the same reason. But i got it used. You can get perfectly fine bromptons for half the price. And with those bikes, you probably feel fine with it beeing mudded or putting stickers on it, to prevent bike theft..

Hi Brian, just wanted to say I live in the Denver 'burbs and have lived car-free in Capitol Hill years ago. Your channel was probably the deciding factor for my Brompton purchase ~2 years ago during an injury while I was immobile and longing to bike again, and I absolutely love it still, having taken it to Europe multiple times since and commuting ~13 miles each way to downtown from the foothills sometimes. As for your discontent with prices here I can only say "the grass is always greener" and if you can maybe try to look at the good things we have here, ex: the cycle paths are pretty good for North American standards, and at least we aren't paying 50% tax for living in somewhere like the Netherlands or another EU country (made-up example). As for your commute, to add to another comment, if you still work on the east side near the A-line as in your previous videos, keep in mind the A-line has to have armed guards by federal law therefore it is more secure than other lines such as the W where fentanyl-smoking abounds...

Hello again. Feedback for you: I don't think that you're irritation is going to go away if you move somewhere else. Do you know the expression: "wherever you go, there you are." ? I think that your irritation with everything comes from within and that wherever you go, as long as you haven't dealt with your underlying issues you will most likely be the same person and those frustrations will exert themself again. Running to another place probably isn't going to make you happier. I have a great therapist in Colorado that I would recommend to you to tackle that side of the issue. It's probably cheaper than moving. Denver is a great place to live and there aren't that many other cities in the US with biking infrastructure as good as we have it here.

I have the money and I'm going to buy my 5th folding bike. And I know Bromptons quite well. And I would, and will, NEVER buy a Brompton. For those few cm's less, you do NOT have a real bike. Plus, through years in the uk i've seen too many Brommies completely rusty from wet and rain (and i would hate it, though i like the look).
NOT everyone is falling into the trap "high price = status".

    • @jeffparnell5805
      @jeffparnell5805 7 месяцев назад +1

@@happycamper1687 ironically, I moved to Denver from NYC too. I had a job driving 100 miles a day or more, not to mention other jobs I commuted on bike, countless laps around Prospect Park, and many rides between Bklyn & Central Park via Brooklyn Bridge. All that being said, NYC driving for me was much more preferable. Everyone is on the same page and has a similar mentality as motorists: basically keep it moving. Denver driving and cycling, especially on the roads, was stressful as hell. So many people have moved there with so many different driving styles, mentalities, and experiences, they don't mix well at all and you have no idea who's doing what. Putting a Texas driver, California driver, Arizona driver, Kansas driver, Oregon driver, Wyoming driver, etc all on the same road and hoping they'll even somewhat be on the same page just doesn't work. In NYC taxi drivers & tourist pedestrians were the ones I most had to watch out for, as a motorist and cyclist. And they were easy to spot for the most part.

I don't have to work being retired which is great. When i begin to get frustrated or angry riding I have to remind myself to "Ride my own ride" which helps me get my attitude right, other folks especially drivers will always keep our head on a swivel while riding, that's a trade off i take for the joys of riding. I like your v-logs. I ride a Liberte and a P-line. I love riding them both but i put most of my hours on a Tinker 2. If and when you do move I hope you find a really bike friendly city. personally I love Denver for its trails and weather.

You almost sound like you think a bike, any bike, is a maintenance free thing. You would have to just about destroy the frame before the bike is not rideable. As long as you keep up with normal bike maintenance, what’s going to happen to it? I 100% agree with you, most people shouldn’t be anywhere near a car. Being a cyclist myself, your head needs to be on a swivel while you’re riding and biking without a mirror is a mistake.

A little commentary: The issue you are having is people. It won't really matter where you move right now because its pretty much everywhere. Cost of living everywhere is up. Unless you get a 20 to 30% increase in income or a 50% decrease in domicile spending you will find the same problems almost any place you go. Hey Brian, my two cents: Don’t move to another city. Focus on a better work life balance. You do have a very physically demanding commute to and from to work each day that chews up your time and body. Cycling can work both ways. Personally it kept me sane and gave me enough physical conditioning to survive what my employer threw at me. I used to treat cycling as a way to get rid of stress and not as a race but had alternative transportation in case of illness. Your point is valid if someone feels they have to cycle to work and if it clearly is causing harm from exacerbating injuries.

i don't quite get the "save the brompton" attitude. it's a workhorse. i live in a similar climate and road conditions. and it's fairly cheap to fix myself when needed.

Glad to see you back in the saddle, pun intended. Ride the Brompton and enjoy it. If you don't use it as intended, the next person will get all the value out of the bike.

    Happy New Year!!
I visit CO often enough, and the sense I get is that Denver seems a bit inhospitable, too big and sprawling. The mountain towns west of the Front Range are lovely though! If I ever moved west, the toughest part would be to choose which little town.
You ever consider doing Ride the Rockies?

I live in Southern California, and I know about expenses being crazy. Have you ever thought about getting a three wheeled e-trike? I've thought about getting one to go camping on.

What is special about the Brompton ride? I have decided not to buy one because of the 16” wheel size. I had a Dahon 16” bike and just didn’t like the ride.
Is Brompton better than other bikes with 16” wheels and how?

Shame Denver has gotten so expensive. The outdoors are great but the actual city Is lacking bike and transit infrastructure to make up for the rising cost. I think cheaper cities like Pittsburgh or Minneapolis offers more for the price

@@davidblanchard6785 i understand about the crazy bike riders.. we have them here. I mean if they can’t ride in a straight line on the bike path nearly colliding with people then they need to practice more at home before they attempt to ride in public…🤔

What is up is that I decided to see what you were up to. It’s been more than a year since I looked at this channel. I stopped looking despite liking the content initially. You posted a video where you were extremely cross and complaining about people as you rode by them. I took that as a sign I should unsubscribe. It didn’t sit well with me at the time. I was trying to avoid that sort of thing. So I took a break from the channel.
I hope you are well and enjoying biking. My upgrades to my Brompton are: switched to Continental tyres, got a Brookes Cambium 17 saddle, swapped to an extended seat post, added a rear rolling rack and swapped to a scrowave suspension block. These improve the performance, ridability and practicality of my 2014 Brompton.

You are looking good despite your problems and rationalising your cycling needs will help sort your life out. A Brompton to ride and a Brompton as a spare should be enough if you have something else such as a Birdy or Moulton as a complete contrast. Before you know it you will not have a work problem but be riding hard to stay ahead of the grim reaper for as long as you can.
