    I just invested in the stereo deluxe 2x12 model and I'm blown away by it. After nearly 20 years of using a Marshall MG50dfx I decided I was long overdue an upgrade, especially after buying a '61 SG last year, I wanted to see what a difference it makes using a top end digital amp, and I have to say I am over the moon with it.

      I went and am still going through the same thing, also. I got a Roland Cube Street to hold me over and have the versatility to busk, but still holding out for a main amp, too many good options. To credit blackstar though, every time Ive played one, its been a great experience, it has a bit of its own character that draws me back over the Katana, sounds slightly more natural.

    Awesome! You can really hear the power section dynamics Ian was talking about and the valve like resonance. The nuances in the playing stand out and the palm mutes sound beefy and tight, a lot must've gone into the cab design as well to pull this off.

    • @tdunster2011
      @tdunster2011 5 лет назад

      @@LoudnessWarsSurvivor There is no such thing as an EL34 voiced amp. The behaviour of the tube is always dependent on the circuit it's being used in. Kinked Tetrodes can potentially have more headroom - but tonally you can use the same tube type in six different circuits and come up with six different voices. The switch to select tube type on any solid state amp is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. You can just as easily get a Princeton Reverb tone from a 6L6 as you can a 6V6 or EL34 or an EL84 [only at lower volume].

    I love the tone of Blackstar amps. I had a HT-Stage-60 that had beautiful cleans that would cut through the band mix, but also had inspiring crunch, lead and glassy reverb. Moving it after a gig was a two-man job. The bassist accidentally poured a litre of water into the hot electrics, so I replaced it with an ID:60 and was blown away by the power, response and tone pallet. I now have an ID:60 Artisan for gigging. They are so easy to use, so versatile and take so much abuse. It's a pity that Lee Anderton does not take Blackstar gear more seriously.

    • @ithemba
      @ithemba 5 лет назад

      well its something slightly different, really. The Katana is the ultimate beginners tool, optimized for bedroom players who try out a shitton of tones when they start learning this and that song for the first time (just go search for a preset of the artist, load it up in the app, there you go, even if you have no clue about how to dial in an amp). Katanas CAN be more if you know what you are doing, but basically they are easy to use decent practice tools.
      This here is some serious digital modeling for people who actually know what power tubes are, how they differe and who can appreciate those kind of differences at all (which is not a given - you need a quite educated ear for those things, you'd be surprised how easy it is to overhear it). Its what BOSS tried with the Nexttone Amps - its really more fair to compare these two.

    I bought a Boss Katana years ago when they first came out. Accidentally spilled something on the amp but it worked until last week. I went to Guitar Center to try out the Silverline Series vs Boss Katana MKII series. Guitar Center didn't have the MKII. So I tried the Silverline 50 watt amp, bought it and walked out the store with the only one they had on hand. It is an amazing amp to me. Maybe its me IDK? I thought the Blackstar Silverline sounded much better overall. Its heavier than most digital amps, you can get such amazing, versatile sounds its awesome and fun to dial in. Well made amp even though its made in China. Most amps are made in China now days.

    Blackstar "Response" knob is a tube emulator. Its a brilliant feature and never seems to be discussed in reviews.
    Each tube setting is like a custom overdrive pedal! Each tube has a distinct character, such as saturation (or lack off),
    and they have their own tonal EQ curve etc. EL84's have a chimy clean and super saturation, EL34's light on bass focused mids
    and crunchy saturation. The 6V6 have that Fender Deluxe Reverb tonal sound and a lighter breakup (bluesy type), 6L6 are super
    clean and have lots of low end, used for that Fender clean sound or with high gain settings for New Metal styles of music.
    Kt88 have a thick full midrange and low mids and are great for Strats with single coils. So change tubes to get different
    overdrive break up and tonal EQ curve. Knowing about tubes helps. Throw a tube screamer or other drive pedal on the front to
    boost the amp (Katana has built on overdrive pedals for added boost). Also the amp responds well to pick attack, play light
    and it cleans up, pick hard and it breaks up more (very tube like).

    I bought one of the 2x12 stereo models today. I've been playing rock and jazz guitar for many years, and have had a ton of amps. IMHO, this amp has finally moved modeling into a working, gig-able amp. Love it so far, of course it's hours in :) light for a 2x12 (my back appreciates that) and as I have a lot of requirements for versatility, it's so far outstanding. My typical profile is a 30/50-100 watt tube amp with various cab configs for live, studio and noodle applications. Former Fractal (and others) modeling amp owner as well. This is worth a look for sure...

    • @songwriter61

      one thing I will say is a detractor: The 'tolex' covering is really poor quality. My amp had several tears in the finish, but it was the only one in stock, so I purchased it. On the way home, it fell over in my truck. Literally tore a huge strip out of the finish. Worst amp covering ever. BUT, I don't care, as it sounds great. Message to BlackStar: I have maps with decades of use with little to no tears - your quality/covering on the structure of the box sucks.

    I like the tweakability on the front panel - it's a lot without being overwhelming. However, I don't really see the unique seling point. The THR series are also audio interfaces, and now they come with bluetooth support making them even better day-to-day hi-fi's, plus they are smaller. I guess this amp fits more into the gap of small gigging/rehearsal amps, which is where the THR farts out (maybe except the new THR30II ?).

    When I started the video, I was stoked. By the end, I was sorely disappointed. As the former owner of an ID:60 TVP, I’m discouraged to see that the Silverlines have *identical* control layouts and I/O functionality, right down to the ridiculous “FX Loop OR Line Out/Aux In” on the rear. Coupled with the fact that you’re still forced (for now) to use that dreadful FS10 footswitch, this is really a ‘bust’ IMHO.
    Maybe those Sharc processors and the revoiced models are substantially better - but to my ears, this just sounds like a cosmetically reskinned, gussied up TVP line.
    I was going to pick up a Boss Katana 100 MkII soon; this certainly isn’t swaying my decision... 😂

    Looks like a re-skinned Blackstar TVP amp to me. Controls are all exactly the same. No effects loop. Would rather get the new Boss Katana, they at least made some changes with variation button and extra controls for effects. Also all 100 watt katana versions (112, 212, head, artist) have effects loop and more in the back. So is this a new look TVP with maybe a speaker swap?

    • @NukePooch1
      @NukePooch1 5 лет назад

      I think all the Silverlines have effects loop capability...even the 20W combo, unlike the small Katanas.

    • @DKprojects9
      @DKprojects9 5 лет назад

      N Pooch I’m looking at the 20 watt combo (which is $430) on sweetwater and product images show no inputs of any kind on back of amp besides the power cable. The katana 100 is only $360, has 80 more watts and effects loop plus many other useful inputs on back. Ya the katana 50 doesn’t have an effects loop either but price is half that of this 20 watt Blackstar you mention and still more powerful with a bigger speaker too. Tell me which models of Silverline amps have effects send and return inputs on the amp.

    • @NukePooch1
      @NukePooch1 5 лет назад

      @@DKprojects9 According to the manufacturer, and what was said in the video, ALL Silverlines have an effects loop. On the small combos, the I/O is on the top (and is switchable in software from phones/MP3 to effects out/in. They might be 1/8 inch jacks. On the bigger combos, the jacks are likely on the bottom of the amp itself (not the cabinet), where the speakers plug in (you can see the right angle plugs at the top of the rear speaker grille in some photos. Also mentioned in the video, is that the wattage listed is comparable to the wattage of tube/valve amps. So it is entirely possible that a 50w Blackstar would be louder than a 100w Katana. Dunno. Might be all marketing. I'll wait until the comparison videos come out.

    • @DKprojects9
      @DKprojects9 5 лет назад

      @@NukePooch1 ya i have heard others talk about using the small 1/8" jacks and enabling effects loops in software but I dont count that as a real effects loop and think its extremely cheap of them to not include real ones. By sharing ports I question audio quality without being dedicated, also the biggest issue is if you wanted to use any of those ports for mp3 or headphones while using you pedals in the effects loop. You have to pick one or the other and thats dumb, plus who wants to remember to carry around adapters.

    Is just DSP programming i.e.
    take the pre-filtered signal plus the impulse response and get the FFT of both then multiply them together then do the IFFT to recover the wanted signal after normalization and filtering then drive the speakers via a class D power amp.

    the effects loop choice was available on the TVP models as well (firmware update). i was rather hoping they would have put a looper in it, like they did with the high power id cores. or put a proper stereo loop in (for recording or the stereo model). ill be honest, this looks like a reskin of the TVPs to me, rather than a step forward so that is a shame.

      (ID:60TVP, ID:60TVP-H, ID:260TVP and ID:100TVP only)
      Switching on the Effects Loop transforms the Emulated Output and MP3/Line
      Input sockets into 'Preamp Out' (for sending a signal to your external effects) and
      'Power Amp In' (for returning the effected signal to your amplifier)
