Also, British Isles is a geographical term, hence it's used even though Ireland is not part of Britain (much to the annoyance of the Irish). It's really not surprising that people outside of the UK and Ireland get confused!

There isn't a political term for the UK + Ireland, but the Geographical term of The British Isles does include all of Ireland. It also *usually* doesn't include the channel islands, which is an added bonus.
