Lots of comments on me incorrectly saying you can use upstrokes on this. Was my first tutorial and mainly wanted to teach the solo but figured I'd better go over the chords as well. Not a reggae guitarist so probably shouldn't have mentioned the upstrokes could be used. So yeah, stick with downstrokes!
This song remember my time when. was young.....Amazing song....
Well done! Thank you for the effort. Nicely explained and demonstrated.
Very nice job ! This is a good lesson, but reggae rhythm guitar (the skank) is down strokes. Up strokes is more for ska...
Best tutorial out here

I know this may be an odd question, but I have been looking all over to see what guitar you’re using! What’s its name?!
Fender American Standard Stratocaster. Bought it just before they discontinued :)
The intro to this song from the Catch a Fire album is my favorite part of this song. Is there any tutorial you could add to play some of the intro stuff ??
You dont possibly have a tab for the solo? Would be greatly appreciated
Hi. I didn't write tab when I recorded this so nothing at the moment. Am starting to go over old videos and putting tab for them on my Patreon page so will get this one up there in the next few weeks.
XYAN doesn't approve of upstrokes for Reggae
Great except for the use of upstroke. Authentic reggae rhythm always played on the downstroke and the chords should be killed quicker almost percussive.
What pedals are you using
Just the lead setting on Yamaha THR10 amp and a Electro-Harmonix Small Stone phaser pedal
@@myguitardiaries thank you so much love that tone
Hi do I need a pedal to get that sound?
Hi. The gain is from the amp but also used an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone phaser pedal
If you use a compressor peddle and then plug that into a wah wah you can get a sound like Wayne Perkins. When you hit the last note, press on the wah wah and the last note will ring out with the higher harmonic octaves.
@@myguitardiaries I love Electro Harmonix peddles and the small stone is awesome.
@@Carlwatkins1984 good tip. I'll give it a try
REGGAE B ALWAYS ON THE DOWN STROKE> NOT DA UP STOKE DATS CALIPSO. TUFF LION TEACH DA TRUTH. STILL TIGHT SOLO BREDREN JUST THAT CHOP NEEDA TIGHTEN FOR THE MOST HIGH
exactly... yuh done know!
You’re right, but Calypso & Soca also on the down stroke, Chic-Ang-Gy-chicky-chick (Down-up-down).
