what about fully disconnecting the battery from both terminals and leaving it sit for a month or so the key works but the remote does not on my elgrand and most locksmiths here do not want to make a second key or reprogram it because its all Japanese they cut another key to open and close the front drivers door it will open the ignition switch but it will not start the car as he did not want to cut the original key and take the chip out afraid that it might not work again

Yep, I have exactly the same issue. Keyless ignition was working fine with the remote control FOB, but after the Engine battery left disconnected for about 6 weeks the remote did still open the doors but the Keyless ignition no longer worked. It now only starts with the key in the ignition.
Interestingly, the remote FOB does need to be in the car or else the engine won't start even with the key. So there must be some kind of minimal remote communication.
The Nissan dealer said they were unable to reprogram the smartlock module so they say it's faulty. But why/how would it have spontaneously developed a fault just by leaving the engine battery disconnected?

Seemed like to you have your engine running in the background ? If this is the case then it always works.

You are never allowed to own a tool and work on cars for that comment.
