  • When it comes to generating power while still maintaining control, the wrist lag is very important. But the key is often more about the timing in relation to your hips. In this video I’ll break things down to explain how it works. And we’ll also look at the differences between the straight and bent arm forehand.

    What do you need to improve about your forehand?

    Never heard it explained to this level of detail. I sometimes struggle with coordinating what my arm and body are doing but this certainly helps, thank you.

      Glad you found the video helpful. The coordination and timing is the hardest part. If you are interested I'm actually doing a live training on thursday to help players with this. Here's the link so you can check it out

    Great explanation! Didn't realize shoulder rotation and pronation are different things. Would be nice to see a similar timing breakdown for kick serve (I use pronation to get power there, but end up losing the topspin).

    • @TennisHacker
      @TennisHacker  2 года назад +1

      Glad you found it helpful. Yes, they are different body parts. often they work at the same time, but slightly different. If you are losing topspin, potentially you aren't getting enough supination (during that lag) as you drive with your hips. The supination will dop the racket below the height of the ball, allowing the pronation to create the spin. Does that make sense?

    • @chorhanglam
      @chorhanglam 2 года назад

      @@TennisHacker Thanks! I'll give that a try; may be related to me not timing the supination-pronation sequence consistently.

    So we should still use shoulder to rotate externally but turn hip also at same time?? Or turning of hip will initiate external shoulder rotation??? In other words should we explicitly rotate shoulder externally on forehand? Thanks for your beautiful videos!!!

    Are you struggling with the wrist lag?

  • @Invesre
    @Invesre 2 года назад +1

    I got a question with straight fh. When you initiialize the swing with torso, should my arm be locked, so basicly start moving with torso rotation, or be delayed?
    In a lot of yt vids they say seperate it(delayed arm movement vs torso). But when i try this i lose a lot of power vs locking or moving arm at exact time as i start rorating the torso.

    • @TennisHacker
      @TennisHacker  2 года назад +1

      There isn’t necessarily a right or wrong way to do it. It’s a case of what you can make work for timing. The torso rotation happens momentarily before arm moves, but you can so that with the arm fully straight or while it’s straightening. If you lose power obviously it suggests that the sequencing isn’t quite optimal. So it might be a case of doing what you are doing and transitioning over time.

    I am able to hit feed balls well but during rally I am missing contact point

    • @TennisHacker
      @TennisHacker  2 года назад

      That normally points to visual stuff. When you are being fed a ball you focus on compensating. But during points there are too much going for your brain to compensate.

    How loose do I hold the grip?

    • @TennisHacker
      @TennisHacker  2 года назад +2

      Relatively loosely. If the grip is too tight, your racket won't drop, especially if you use the straight arm variation.

  • @danguee1

    Well there's 7 minutes I'll never get back...
    SO unnecessarily complicated and intricate (and wrong).
    Btw - if Roger, Rafa and Carlos hit with a straight arm, don't bother with bent arm. It introduces another layer of variability and is a waste of time

    • @JJ-iq8id
      @JJ-iq8id Год назад +1

      So what about Novak and the majority of other professionals who hit with bent arm? People should hit with whatever comes natural and work off that to build a solid technique.
