  • Sharing my endometrial hyperplasia journey that is leading to a hysterectomy for those of you who don't fit the typical hysterectomy story. I'll be 60 years old this year, am obese (which caused the endometrial hyperplasia, and found there wasn't a lot out there that told my story - so I'm sharing with you in case you need to feel a little less alone in the world. No matter what - you are not alone. Share your journey in the comments! I'd love to hear your story, too!

Hi Darcy , I had a radical hysterectomy on April 28th of 2023. I was 54 and obese and post menopausal. I had endometrial cancer. They did my surgery robotically. I went home the same day, thankfully. I was off work for 6 weeks. Recovery went well , the biggest issue I encountered was being tired . I was told by the doctor to walk from day one. It helped so much, but after 5 min. I was exhausted. Listen to your body take naps. Dont over due it . 4 days after surgery, I had to go the funeral home , because my neice passed away. When I got home, I was wiped out for 2 days. Don't push yourself to do things. You got this. ❤ hugs and prayers to you , Kat

❤ So sorry for your loss firstly, I got the same diagnosis last August ... Had the same surgery.
Darcy, I had the same period issues... But I didn't realize my walking issues were due to EXTREME blood loss, they had to call 911 for me at work .. and they said it was shocking I was still upright, let alone walking. Surgery went great... Recovery went well but definitely REST ... And please don't overdue.... I had 5 rounds of radiation. And just had my check in and still all clear. You GOT this! ❤ Honestly the worst part was WAITING for the results .. will be thinking of you! Thank You for sharing! Again I will keep you in my thoughts!! 😊❤

I had a full hysterectomy February 2019 and ended up with ovarian cancer Stage 2B. Chemo followed that summer. I thought it was menopause but I kept feeling worse and worse. I was lucky, I was cured. A rare thing with ovarian cancer. I hope your journey is as easy as possible. Take care of yourself first, everything else can wait. Make sure you take small walks everyday even if it is only down the hall or driveway.

I don't remember my diagnosis, but this sounds like what I had 12 years ago when I was 55. I had horrible huge bleeding and pain that never stopped plus horrible migraines. My OB/GYN told me I was in menopause so shouldn't have any periods let alone a constant one so I had a hysterectomy. Afterwards he said it was worse than he thought, but no cancer. It was the best surgery I ever had. I never had much pain afterwards. My doctor said often there isn't as much pain when something is removed vs repaired because it doesn't have as much to heal...plus compared to the pain I had before surgery, post surgery was hardly anything. My side benefit is that I don't get migraines anymore. I pray all goes well with you!

    Hi Darcy,
I've been a silent subscriber for quite a few years to your channel. You always get a like from me, just no comments because I'm a quiet one.
I was where you are 13 years ago. So happy to hear you are in a good frame of mind. Knowing you will come to the other end of this in good health is a blessing to carry you through. Nonetheless, cancer is scary. And I if you have to go through preventative therapies after surgery, that knowledge will help.
You are in my thoughts and prayers Darcy. Continue to take very good care of yourself 😊
And this is long overdue, thank you very much for the purposeful pantry. You give so much correct and knowledgeable info. I have learned a lot simply by watching you.

I had a two-fer when my son was born 27 years ago - C-section and emergency hysterectomy.
My biggest tip: take the stool softeners bc the pain meds causing constipation. Newborn plus all the drama I didn’t register that advice. Digitally helping things along was awful and gross. Sorry for the TMI!!

I'm 65 and in 2009 I went through this exact same thing but mine was cancerous. Hysterectomy, 5 weeks (every day M-F) of radiation, and 8 months of chemo (once a month), and I've been cancer free ever since. It wasn't a piece of cake, but it wasn't torture. Take your meds, do what they tell you to do, TAKE YOUR "ME TIME", and just keep putting one foot in front of the other. You're strong, Darcy. You got this. ❤

I was 52 and overweight (well, still am). I had a da Vinci type surgery, but not sure that was the exact procedure. I had been having endometrial biopsies every 6 months...nothing was "wrong" but since I was post- menopausal and still having very frequent bleeding and sick to death of the very painful(to me) biopsies, I said to just get rid of everything. I felt fine after surgery, so I had to remind myself I had surgery and not to overdo it. That was 15 years ago. My only regret was telling them to go ahead and take my remaining ovary...just because of the hormone shock.
Be good to yourself and let your family pamper you. 🌹💐

I had this 3 years ago, same diagnosis at age 60. Yes, I STILL was getting a period (every 4 months). They were 96% sure it was not cancer, but after my robotic laproscopy, the lab said it was. Anyway, I'm still cancer free after 3 years. My recovery was easy, no pain , no incisional problems. I hope your journey goes as smoothly as mine , so far.

I had a complete hysterectomy (cervix remains in the body) when I was nonstop bleeding due to fibroids. I was working at a large medical clinic and my supervisor didn’t want me to take off for the surgery. I explained what was happening to no avail. I had to have my gynecologist write a note to the supervisor saying that the surgery was medically necessary. The supervisor had to let me off then.
The surgery was done vaginally with no abdominal incisions. I went home feeling so good that a few days after I took a stool out in the back yard and sat and pulled weeds. The slight bleeding increased. Post op instructions said light duty. I thought I was. No damage was done . I think I was off 4-6 weeks. Like you, I thought that I was of an age where I was fed up with the business of periods and wanted to go ahead and remove it all. Odd, though, the drs don’t request a yearly paps test done since I only have a cervix. Strange!
I hope you have an easy and painless recovery with good biopsy results. I have followed your other channel for a few years and just dehydrated 5 # of ground beef jerky. Turned out great. Good luck.

Just a little over a year ago, like you, I was just a few month from my 60th birthday and began having problems. I was sent to a GYN and he did a biopsy on a polyp (mine didn't hurt either) and it came back with the same diagnosis, except mine was with atypia. I also opted for the full radical hysterectomy via laparoscopy. An hour or two after I woke up from surgery and after I proved I could pee, I was dressed and sent home. My husband talked me into taking one of the pain pills they gave me that night, just in case but I really didn't need it. After that, I got by with motrin and tylenol. I never was in extreme pain, I did get some shoulder achiness from anesthesia, but overall, nothing too bad. Pathology came back clear, no cancer. I am one year and two days post-op and feeling normal, except for the sweating. The sweating since surgery has been awful. If I do anything physical for more than five minutes, I am soaked. Nothing like walking thru the grocery store and dripping sweat from your hair. I carry a sweat rag with me everywhere now. I wish you the best of luck with your surgery and post-op.

    • @myhysterectomyjourney
      @myhysterectomyjourney  3 месяца назад +1

YES! the sweating since they put me on Megace has been awful (like when I was getting hot flashes back in perimenopause), and I can only hope they'll stop when I stop taking the meds (day before surgery!). But I know I have to wait to see what happens when my hormones settle. This is an estrogen driven issue, so it'll be a while before it does even out.

Darcy, I also had the same problem but was way younger than you. I'm 80 now. You will be fine. As for the healing, if you go on a very low carb eating plan, your healing will be quicker and you will probably lose weight without any problems. Also, inflammation feeds off of sugar and low carb reduces all of that. I will keep you in my prayers as you are the greatest!!!!!

I have a piece of advice for after your surgery and recovery. Make sure that the Drs. Keep track of your lung health, such as a yearly CT scan. My friend had the same kind of cancer situation you may be dealing with at 70 years old. She had surgery and they removed it all. No other treatment needed at that time. Now 6 years later it spread to her lungs and she is in the midst of chemo therapy. They didn’t have an annual check of her lungs but caught it accidentally and it is stage one and treatable.

  • @TheEclecticKitchen

Sending you best wishes, Darcy. I know you will be fine. I was/am.
I had surgery for hyperplasia when I was 56 except mine was with atypia. My understanding of atypia is that some cells have some abnormality, but it is not cancer. However, there is a greater chance of cancer developing, though not a guarantee it will. My bleeding was not as severe as yours, and there were a few other details like the atypia that were not the same. I'm impressed with how much detail you were able to get from your providers. I'm sure that the 16 years or so between our surgeries may be at least one reason. Surgery was the only option offered to me perhaps because of the atypia, though I don't know what else was available back then. Maybe because the provider communication was not very good. :( Good for you for insisting on more information.
For soft information and support, I found Hystersisters to be very helpful. They still send me an email on every anniversary even after all these years.
Take care and thanks for sharing this journey.

Darcy, I dealt with a 'little' bit of this when I was in my 30's. I had heavy, non stop bleeding to the point where I had to have blood infusions, more than once. Because I was still "of child bearing age" none of my (male) Dr's would even discuss a hysterectomy with me. I decided to Dr shop and found a new Dr. who was also a woman and after exams and medical history etc she scheduled me for a hysterectomy. Best thing I could have done. I will be praying for you over the next few weeks. Take care of yourself during your time off and make sure those around you are taking care of you too. You deserve it.

Just popped over from your channel. A couple months ago I had a uterine biopsy but no results yet. Uterus lining looks a little thick. Isn't it wonderful that there are options out there for us. Through your channel, I think woman will hopefully learn that getting checked out throughout the years is so important, so conditions like this can be found as early as possible. My mum passed away from cancer quite awhile ago but they just assumed it was ovarian. I would rather have my uterus removed sooner than later if necessary. The hardest part for you is gonna be that stage in recovery where you feel fine but are itching to get back to things. I know that would be the hardest for me, haha ☺You have my prayers for a text book procedure and recovery. ❤

I had no heavy bleeding, in fact the spotting stopped, but not the cramps. Doctor put me on progesterone, it did not work. I went an entire year living on the couch with a heating pad. I was "obese" at that time and probably considered that now but I fluctuate according to my willpower! I was afraid to go anywhere (this was when I was in my mid 40s). I do still have a good-sized fibroid but they say it's fine. My procedure totally took care of it and you WILL be OK!! I recently connected with you on facebook and wow does that happen a lot to me. My grandmother (gran) had a complete hysterectomy at the age of 74. This was back in the late 1980s. She had a non-cancerious softball size tumor in her uterus. She was larger than you (I am too, for that matter 🤷‍♀️) it made her physical recovery somewhat slow but not by much and I would think he age also made recovery slow. She did fine. So hang in there, take care of yourself, do what your doctor recommends and I be praying for your speedy recovery.

I did have radical hysto in 06 and due to large fibroids I had to be cut. One of the fibroids/tumors was the size of a softball and had started attaching to my spine, which was not known until the surgery was in progress. I had a 6 to 8 week recovery period but after three days I was feeling pretty good, but for the incision where one stitch opened up. I am glad they caught my precancerous tumors and have not have any issues since I healed from the surgery. It is scary but it sounds like these types of surgeries have gotten even better since I had mine! I was even able to fly home for my uncles funeral at week 3. I hope alot of women can get alot of info from yours and others postings. Thank you for sharing and giving us a platform to also share so more women can get the help they need without being afraid.

Good of you to share. I had breast cancer, and to be very cautious my dr. ordered an MRI which discovered cancer in the other breast. I had double mastectomy and found that I have a breast cancer gene. It put me at higher risk for Ovarian cancer, so I later had total hysterectomy. After that surgery my dr. told me I had endometriosis. So monthly pain was gone to be replaced by hot flashes and unable to take estrogen replacement due to the type of cancer. They gave me a low dose anxiety medication which helped with the night sweats tremendously. Will keep you in my prayers.

My daughter just turned 40 and had hers 6 months ago. I believe she also had fibroid tumors, but no cancer. Her gyn sent her to the oncologist gyn as well. She's doing well. Her surgery was done robotically, so very small acars.... mine scar is across my belly. Modern medicine is amazing.

I forgot, got the robotic one. And you only end up with tapes. The only thing is that my left leg on the top it's numb sense that they. And I ask them why and the only thing they told me was because they tied you so you won't move. I don't know if someone else got the same experience.

Hi Darcy, I can’t speak to your specific diagnosis but I can speak to the actual procedure and recovery. At 39 I had a hysterectomy. I had adenomyosis. Very similar symptoms that you experienced and the solution was a hysterectomy. My biopsy experience was VERY painful, I’m glad yours wasn’t! They left my ovaries for some reason.. my assumption is that going through menopause at 39 would have been unpleasant.
My recovery from my vaginal hysterectomy was very simple. Not a lot of pain at all. I felt completely fine at about the 5 day mark and never looked back!
I will keep you in my thoughts as you move forward with your healthcare journey and of course hope that the initial biopsy results are accurate!
I agree with you, women really need to share their experiences.. Be well.

I had a hysterectomy last January. I had three cysts, one 10 cm on my right ovary filled with clear liquid and two 5cm filled with clear liquid and 3cm filled with blood on the left ovary. Surgery went smoothly. I’m over weight, too. I had no bleeding after surgery. My work made me take the whole 6 weeks off of work. My prayers are with you.

Hi, Darcy! I had the same diagnosis as you did, but this was 27 years ago when I was 45. Back then, my doctor was also a surgeon, so I wasn’t referred to a gynecologist. I felt so much better after the surgery was over, but it did take a few weeks for me to get back to normal. Unlike today, laparoscopic surgery wasn’t really a thing, so I had the old fashioned surgery. I hope your recovery goes smoothly and that you feel better very soon. ❤

I am so sorry that you have to go through this but I did when I was 65. I was diagnosed with uterine cancer and had a DiVinci hysterectomy. I was home in 24 hours and never experienced any pain at all. They have remarkable procedures now, and I wouldn't assume you will be suffering. By the way, I was also way overweight and it didn't matter at all. Good luck to you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. You're going to be just fine.

When I was 48 I was diagnosed with an abnormal pap which came back as carcinoma in-situ.... which from my research at the time I learned was cervical cancer stage O. The only option really given to me by a regular gynecologist and on oncologist gynecologist was a partial hysterectomy (laparoscopic surgery) would take care of the problem. I really didn't want to go that route but was told I would keep having this issue if I didn't. I guess things worked out because six months later my daughter was diagnosed with a rare, incurable lung/heart disease and I became her caregiver.

Da Vinci is really awesome IF you can have it. My Gastric Bypass was Da Vinci and my bowel has no adhesions and healed really good. My Gynaecologist saw my bowel in my hysterectomy and she showed me photos and said my surgeon did a brilliant job. I will be thinking of you and hope you come and update all the tests etc and let us know how the surgery went. :)

A radical hysterectomy....do you have to take hormone replacement therapy? Do not take Premarin (pregnant horse urine).!!! Did you by any chance take the Covid shots? Numerous problems have come from those..
Wishing you all the best!! Hugs and prayers!!

PMU (pregnant mare urine) is collected in the most horrendous way possible. I agree, do not take it.
So no HRT for me and I bled myself anemic with a huge fibroid before having a hysterectomy, open not by laparoscope. Best decision ever and thank goodness for universal healthcare 🇨🇦
