This is the major update I needed for my monitor mounting setup for my Ronin S. Those ball head mounts don't do the trick anymore. I saw someone out in the field with this setup as well as another fellow RUclipsr and been dying to recreate it. Thanks for the video man! Solid information here.
Thank you! I have access to both GH5(s) and Ronin S and this is really useful! You've explained the calibration process far better than any other video I've seen yet. Thanks!
With no sarcasm at all; This was a really great educational video. No fluff, Straight to the point, and no Drum and Bass intro and outro. Well put together. You have given me new power with this video EDIT: Any chance you could do a BMPCC 4K video? Also I subbed, like, and bell'd this!
F-ing AMAZING video, brother. This cleared up so much regarding the functionality of this gimbal that I’d have probably never realized without your effort. Thank you!
Hi. Not sure if you worked out the reason why you couldn’t see the GH5 monitor when you hooked up the Ninja V but it’s actually because of the Robin controller cable. I had the same issue as I have the same setup. Removing the Robin cable fixes the issue. Great video btw!
So, does everyone need to purchase a separate powered connecting cable that connects the camera to the gimbal? If so, does DJI have a wide array of camera-compatible cables? For Canon?
am new to gimbals, the joystick is not working, do i need to connect it to the apps b4 it works, or should it work even without connecting it to the apps? thanks
I have the 12-60 Leica and the 15mm Leica, I also much prefer the 15mm lens. I find GH5 AF pretty good with that lens (not perfect, but set up with one area focus and a half press on the Ronin record button works well). I see you have the focus controller, I saw mentioned elsewhere that the controller works well with the 15mm Leica because that lens has a more linear focus ring.
Qeuick question. At 19:12 you show how to slide in the monitor mount... but you're sliding it from the bottom and locking it upward. Is there any way to make this work if you mounted that plate at 180 degrees so that you slide that monitor mount from the top and lock it downward? (I would think that it would therefore never possibly just slide out from below? If you know what I mean?
@CraigBeckta Thank you for posting this video, I ended up using it as a roadmap to create my setup that I'm very excited to try out. What screws did you use to mount the SmallRig Monitor Holder plate to the gimbal? I am having trouble finding M4 screws with a small enough head to allow for clearance & that are also long enough.
Hey, can I please ask if you have IS stabilization turned on while mounted to this gimbal? I have Dual IS (both body and lens) on my Panasonic GH5 and was wondering if I can leave them on while on this gimbal for buttery-smooth footage or will this cause it to look unnatural?
Hi Thanks for the video. I got the D810 with the B type cable on the Ronin s, but the red bottom on the Ronin doesnt work. Ishoud take pictures And star filming right?
Hi, Can you please help. I try to balance my Ronin SC with Canon M50 + Sigma 16mm and Rode videomicro. Less than 2kg. Everything is OK except for Roll balance. Camera always rotates (a bit) from left to the right and from right to the left. Impossible to balance it perfectly. The application on my phone shows Excellent for everything however I see that ROLL balance is not that perfect like Tilt balance. Should I return the Gimbal do DJI ? or just leave it like that ? Thank you for your help !
Good video. I use the smallrig nato setup for my Ninja Inferno as well. Apparently previous Gh5 firmwares didn't lose the GH5 screen when the USB and HDMI were used. Can't confirm, but the Atomos Ninja V video with Lee Allen seems to show all three working together. Would be nice if this did work, as I hate losing the ability to monitor camera settings when recording to my ninja inferno.
Green Beastie I have the same problem...if i connect the GH5s with the Ronin S and use an external Monitor the GH5s Screen turns black..this is terrible ....
I saw his videos and he never plugged the USB-C from Ronin to his GH5. I wish they fixed it. Now I changed that I could see Menu info on my monitor too. It helps but its not the same.
Hello, Is it possible to balance a Sony HandyCam on the Ronin S? It's an awkward long shape video camera. The Camera looks balanced but it will not stay in position when I turn it upside down to face the lense upward.
it has been so frustrating for me.. spent many hours and I just can't get it to balance with the App. Will try a few more times, but thanks for the tutorial.
there is the problem with the hdmi cable tho, I had thethe same set up with EOS R, but the cable is either too heavy or too stiff, which tends too push the camera off balance, or the gimbal won't be able to move properly. And it limits the ability to do 3D Roll 360, which is the take away with better codecs i guess. Great vid nontheless
for the life of me i CANNOT locate "Smooth track" setting in Ronin S app!! :((( has it been changed in 2020?? help!! I do real estate video!! please someone give me there recommended app settings!
pretty terrible longer wires just give up i have a small coiled wire i stretched the coil so its not so firm but still meh i'm going to order a thinner straight cable and try that but everything I've tried so far puts strain and can make the ronin s go wild so be cautious at all times
one of the best solutions to mount a monitor to a gimbal... thing about doing it this way but it would be better so have the monitor right behind the gimbal to release sidewards force. Right now i use Gh5 on a Weebill lab with a Atomos Ninja V mountet on a smallrig magic arm, but i'm not happy with it. The arm is not strong enough and the monitor moves around alot. Any suggestions for mounting the monitor behind the gimbal?
I've been looking for a more flexible HDMI cable... (I really wish that DJI had placed an HDMI input on the handle... keeping this setup cable free between external monitors and the gimbal... ) I know that RedRock Micro makes ultra thin cables for their equipment but they don't make any HDMI cables - HAve you found anything better since you posted your video?

Hey Craig, (or anyone else on here) have you ever dealt with it vibrating uncontrollably? I can't turn my ronin on without it sounding like the motor will break. I have tried updating the firmware, rebalancing, and anything else I can think of and it will not stop vibrating. Any help is welcome! thank you.
Downgrade the firmware and test again. Then, update the firmware and retest. That’s what worked in my situation when I experienced that issue. Failing that, yeah..contact support.
best review of the Ronin yet. every other review left me with questions. THANK YOU. well explained.
Awesome, thank you!

What type of quick release do you have?

nice one...
A HUGE help, thank you very much.
how did you record the app?
The monitor mount is not listed in the description
could you list it? link for monitor mount?
What's the piece u have that's connected to the mcc
Can it work with canon 1300D
Great review Craig thank you for all your knowledge, highly recommend it
At 19:52, you could just unscrew (2 allen screws) that nato rail and flip it, then you would be able to mount it on top...
When you mount it the other way it sits too low and blocks the lever.
@@cbphotovideotips ahhhh... GotchA

It has. It’s “always on” according to DJI. You can disable it by changing your user profile to “POV” or “custom”.
I'm having Nikon d810 can I get the cable for it
So using the image app does anyone lose the manual focus thru wheel on gh5 and Ronin-s

You can try modifying a hand grip attachment that Zhiyun Tech sells.

The Amazon basics cables work.
I have a very similar setup. I just don’t know if I can get used to not having access to my camera screen...🤔
