Finely built mine today!! Love it and now my coworkers are going to order stuff to build some too. I opened out the little control box and drilled some hold to put nuts and bolts in then cut the wires inside putting some crimps inside with a ABC5 fuse and holder. Can't use that 24V plug now since I cut the wires to it but it is forever going to be on my M18 battery power. Love how fast it is and in the setting you can set auto off for low voltage, time delay off, and so many cool setting. Love this new tool 🥰🥰🥰
@@i.b.lancer been using it and everybody is super jealous wanting me to make them one too which is too funny I show them your video and send them links. It is so handy! Love it!🥰🥰
Nice build! I just learned of these things today lol. Never knew of how great these were! I ordered a prebuilt one from JMM Solutions. Going to replace my soldering station as it will also be portable when I work not at my desk. Such a great way to utilize already existing batteries!
Suggestion: use a dead m18 charger instead of the ebay adapter, this way you can flush mount the device into the charger, and have the soldering iron wire exit through the old a/c input hole. I intend to build one in that way. Thank you for the idea!
Awesome video thank you for the idea. I just ordered the parts. I was going to get the Milwaukee but this save me quite a bit of money if it works out. 60 bucks for everything on Amazon
Just made this today, I drilled two small holes to feed the adapter wires into the body and eliminated the barrel plug entirely. It's such a clean setup and I can't wait to find excuses to use it now! Showing all my friends 😂
Mannn i have a milwaukee soldering iron but it just broke today..😢😢😢 and i saw your video and now am happy because i can use your idea, and continue with my work .. Thank you for the info and the video..😊
great build... i work on volkswagen vans..and often have to do soldering for nefarious wiring goblins..i have a butane soldering iron..but is is not very controllable..it puts out to much heat to surrounding elements..this will be a perfect solution..i like the fact that it turns off also....thanks for posting....edit: just made mine today...works great...i wonder if there is a way to bypass the walwart connector...like directly wire it...that would make it tidier...
Great idea. I have Bosch 12& 18V platform but Milwaukee edges up due to the soldering iron. Milwaukee have many useful tool that Bosch lacks. With the above method it would be a good help. Hopefully someone can come out with solution to put an iron holder on top of the battery. Have the battery as the base.
I built this exact setup two years ago. Its amazing. Also you can buy a 10 pack if different tips online for this torch to make it even more versatile. Also gets hotter than my m12 soldering iron even though that one is very handy too
Agreed. I loved my M12 iron but they just kept melting on me because of that stupid plastic collar. After I went through about 3 of them in less then a year I came up with this idea. If I’m starting a big project I’ll just slap on a 9ah or a 12ah battery and the thing will run for days. I’m really happy with this set up.
Amazing idea, though my t12 quicko didnt come with the barrel plug so i just soldered it in direct, seems to work great will be looking into building a station for it soon.
Wow that’s great l was thinking about getting m12 soldering iron but having seen what you have done that looks the best way forward l will have to see if l can get the DC soldering iron here in the uk 🇬🇧 thanks for your video stay safe sir 👍👏👏 just been looking on eBay and I found the soldering iron it’s from China but not a bad price £25 pounds l have seen the Milwaukee adapter on eBay too so happy days 👍 thanks
As awesome as the M12 is it is kinda big after using it for a long time or one small items. I going to build one like your s now!! Awesome! It'll even fit in my toolbox at work. I'm kinda space limited on my toolbox... 56" is my every job box and my main box takes up 12' of a wall so... unless I drag a 72' to every thing in industrial maintenance job it have to get it to fit.
I would have avoided those cables that hang from the back and can get caught on anything. A hole through the middle of the adapter and through the bottom of the control unit box would elegantly solve the problem.
Just wanted to give an update on those wires on the back that can get caught on anything… well, it’s been 3 years since I built it and I use it weekly… I’m happy to report that I haven’t got those wires caught on one damn thing. I’ll keep trying.
I have a Ryobi 18V soldering iron. It's more like a traditional soldering iron in which it had a base wired to a wand. You could probably find a Milwaukee to Ryobi battery adapter that way as well. But your DIY solution was definitely fun to watch.
Awesome project. Would be extremely handy for automotive soldering. The 20 volt battery adapters are available for Milwaulkee and most major brands, such as DeWalt, Ridgid, Bosh, Ryobi and Makita. Unfortunately, the soldering iron and controller are no longer showing to be available from Amazon. Any other sources?

I just did the same thing with a Quicko T12-941 and a Makita battery.
