Found your post on the prusa3d subreddit... This video could not have found me at a better time. I'm in the market for a new soldering iron because I have "the garbage iron" and I need the portability. I had almost talked myself into the hakko model you have, but had put the purchase off.
    Excellent video!

Yikes.. Looks like the Pinecil is out of stock on Amazon. Where did you order yours from?

Great video. I think that nickel would probably be a good choice for the tabs. You can find it pretty inexpensively for use in DIY battery packs and it has good conductivity, corrosion/wear resistance and good solder-ability. Not as good corrosion/wear resistance as stainless, but much higher conductivity. You can get the full 60W from usb-c for the pinecil, but it requires a PD source capable of 20V at 3A, so most laptop chargers will do and even some power banks. Pine64 also sells a silicon usb-c cable for like $5 which is very well made. Thanks for making the vid, I'm going to try making an adapter for my 40v skil batteries so I can power an eBike.

You use SketchUp for STL design? Would love to see your design workflow someday. I use OpenSCAD for simple items and F360 for complex ones but looking to ditch Autodesk as they make it too painful for free users now.

I do, but i use the older 2017 desktop version. I was learning F360 and have used it for a few projects, but the newer rules have me second guessing that choice as well.

It's soo good. I hope the price stays low. As much as I love my trusty Hakko, the portability of a batt pack and the Pinecil is just killer.

Hey.... I just came across your channel and I did subscribe. So I wanted to know if you ever updated your pinecil firmware so you could use the pd 3.1 with more power think its 28v 90 watts?

I have not. I always just use it with the bullet connector for power (fed from the bosch 18v batts). Been super reliable.
