Thanks for this...was looking at this WLBRK12 specifically for it's portability, but suspected it wouldn't be able to handle 16awg or larger. This video saved me from wasting $68.98, and convinced me to either get the corded (and much higher rated) Weller 9400PKS Soldering Gun kit and consider getting the Bernzomatic 368600 Butane Soldering Pen kit for portability at some point in the future. Thanks again.
Yeah, it gets real hot, too hot I think, but not enough watts pushing it to stay hot. I like and use this Weller butane a lot ruclips.net/video/5xSd8CzihSQ/видео.html
Thanks for the video I just bought one for 68.18 cents at Home Depot I guess it will do for now because my Weller soldering station soldering lead had broke after I dipped it in water to cool off quicker burt turned it one while wet,.
I’m looking at buying the same one and your video is very useful. The only thing I’m left wondering is how the tip attaches. Does it slide or screw on?
Hey Thanks for Watching! It slides on/off see in video at around 2:20 Essentials to get some tip tinner and a brass sponge to keep your irons tip ship shape! Weller Iron: amzn.to/3kj09C1 Tip Tinner: amzn.to/41qnhzd Brass Sponge: amzn.to/41oZS12 Thick Solder: amzn.to/3XXm6nK Thin Solder: amzn.to/3St0UF3
It is a 3.7v 2600mah lithium ion but has a small carriage mount with shrink rap around it with wires coming off it. So technically you can replace it if you have a bit of ingenuity.
Yeah not much for options only the 0.4mm point tip WLTC04LBA12 amzn.to/40TRuGf or the 4mm chisel tip WLTCH4LBA12 amzn.to/3zJ5JBI. The iron is limited in its ability being only 12 watts and cordless. Weller corded irons have much larger options in tip selection and the tips are much cheaper. for instance this solder station by Weller amzn.to/40Xvjin with a number of tips both pointy and chisel type amzn.to/3MwOrzf or generics with hot knife amzn.to/3nZXqia
No sell for me. Want the solder to be built up on the tip for easier use in hard to reach places. Need to adjust the temperature. Looks like Chinese companies win on this one.....
yeah, It is not my first choice, it does need the ability to adjust the temp down, it runs hot, so hot it oxidises the tip very fast, it tends to vaporise super thin solder. I just got the updated model for this year and will be testing it out (still no adjustments), but it does charge of USB-C PD ports now.
Could be for folks, it is a low wattage iron, so not much power to maintain the heat on larger items. It's good for small items that can handle high heat.
Yeah, I totally get where you're coming from, I too am in electronic engineering for the past 30 years. This one I tested for sure seemed to get too hot and just vaporize solder, it makes you learn a new way to weald it, which is not necessarily the way I like. I just found the end would oxidize very quickly, in fact this is the first time I ever had to actually use tip tinner amzn.to/40JFrgR and a lot of it! It does though fulfill the niche of a wireless iron that is powered by electricity. If there is one out there though that lets you control the iron's temperature I'd seriously consider it over this. I like Weller's butan iron much better than this one. I did just receive there updated version of this iron and will write up a review on it in the coming weeks.
I just used it today soldering tinning a bunch of wires that went into terminals, I have to admit it worked out quite well. It's not something I would use on circuit board, not that it can't, but it does just fine tinning wires and soldering wires.
I was wondering if I could charge it with a usb-c to c. Thank you for clearing that up. Very informative video.

Thanks for the info about charging--I couldn't for the life of me get it to charge and didn't think to try A-C.

"3.7v 2600mah lithium ion", I wonder if is a replaceable 18650 battery inside.

I tried to do my stereos harness cables for my car and it wouldn’t heat up the cables enough for it to liquified it just turned my cables black 😂
Probably too heavy of a gauge wire for this iron.
@@LetsDoThis321it was the wires from my head unit harness on my car stereo
@@vrtxs1938 maybe the soldering iron tip is oxidized and needs to be cleaned and tinned.
Chisel tips has no option. Final verdict is a trash.

Soldering tips are easily shaped with a file or sander (normally).

Absolute garbage… these things suck ass! Sincerely an electronics technician
