So fantastic to have all these Kayfabe interviews. It’s a wealth of information, knowledge and inspiration. Can’t thank you enough for these. Cartoonist Kayfabe Forever!
Dear SIR, PLEASE advocate for us to hear from Louise!!!!! The era you two span and knowledge y'all contain.........PRICELESS. PEACE and god bless. Truly an AWESOME interview, thank you. Cartoonist Kayfabe GENTLEMEN, you out did yourselves with this one,....when do we hear from Jim Starlin???
I’ll be honest, I think Walt and Louise Simonson are the real reasons I loved Marvel Comics. There were a lot of other artists and writers and characters, but Walt’s Thor & F4 & X-Factor, Louise’s Power Pack & X-Factor, that’s the era I really fell in love with. Fall of the Mutants and Inferno have long been the books I will reread.
Love the Gerry Talaoc shout out. He was one of the first Filipino artists recruited by Tony Dezungia for DC. He did phantom stranger, and unknown soldier, and a ton of other stuff. One of my favorites.
WALT! Man, I SO look forward to these Sunday shoot interviews. You guys have been talking to some absolute legends these last few months. Thank you guys and please thank Walt for carving time out of his day for this. Also, the 2nd & Charles in Jacksonville, FL has a copy of StarSlammers autographaed by Walt for $25 if any locals reading this is interested in picking it up.
Come on guys, Walt!? You guys are killing it. So great to have all of these awesome creatives on Kayfabe. Seriously creating a wonderful archive for future generations. So dope!
Thanks for talking to Walt Simonson. Great interview. You guys are some of the best interviewers--you ask intelligent and interesting questions. Very pleasing to watch.
Oh yes, make the Louise Simonson interview happen! But please, focus on other things different from how she joined Marvel, how she met Walt, or how they planned the Death of Superman (plenty of interviews about that abound in RUclips); she is such a great writer and so underappreciated by the masses!
Less than halfway through and this is fantastic. Dude can really talk. In light of the sad news about his health, I couldn’t help but think it’d be incredible if you could get an interview with George Perez. I think it’d be really something to hear someone like that look back at his career.
Absolutely excellent interview, guys! Thanks! You made my day! The FF/time travel story was worth it all by itself! Please bring Walter again also wanna hear about Louise’s career especially her time at Warren in the 70’s! Thanks again! And for God’s sake KEEP Making &Reading COMIX!
Gentlemen, you are on a Roll! Some of my earliest comics memories include Archie and Walt's work on MANHUNTER: the layouts were radical, compared to Swan"s SUPERMAN work, at the time. The multi-panel pages transmitted so much narrative power, culminating in the Batman-infused finale (the extra conclusion, in the Collected Edition, was an excellent Coda to the Goodwin/Simonson collaboration). A double header with Miss Weezie (she could reign on her own, too, fer shure!) would be extreme! Keep it, comin' Faykabe Strong! 🖖♾
This is such a great interview! Back in the day, I waited every few months for Detective Comics and the Manhunter series. It was so dynamic and different. It is great to finally "meet" the guy who inspired my childhood!
The guy is a bona fide legend. Love his work. Nice guy too had the privilege of meeting him in the UK a few years back he signed all my Manhunter editions with a kind work and gratitude.
A creative powerhouse. One of the nicest people, generous with his time and a massive talent. Thank you for this in-depth interview. Hopefully you guys can get Louise Simonson also!
Walt is such a badass, I never get tired of listening to him. And those quotes “ A longshoreman that could draw like a MFer” 😂That alone was worth the price of admission
Thanks for the enterview. Is the longest Walt enterview I've seen and it's great! Is a cool thing that your favorite writers and artist are in fact, good people.
Man, what a delicious chat. There are some artists you love, and then there are a very few you just know you'd love to know as persons, artists or not. Walter is certainly one of those rare specimens (and so is Louise, looking forward to her interview!).
Not to repeat myself from an Instagram post, but Walt is so great; definitely on my Mt. Rushmore of comic artists. I saw him in a Q&A at a tiny little con in Ithaca NY (Louise was in a Superman panel there too, and I was lucky enough to have a question answered) and he was absolutely incredible. He's funny, warm, and his storytelling comes through even when he's "rambling". This may be my fav shoot interview so far!
I loved this interview... Walter Simonson is one of my favorite artists of all time with John Buscema being my favorite with Walter a close second. Walters style and art he did on Thor is my favorite run and something I shared with my kids when they showed interests in art.
Great interview guys. Love that there’s a place to go to hear from these legends. Just wondering though can you guys do an episode about Joelle Jones or maybe interview her if possible. I feel you guys would do a better job then most of these comic book RUclipsrs at explaining the situation. I feel like people have no idea what they are talking about but I really think you guys would shed light on it. If you don’t want to bring up Joelle Jones herself then maybe an episode about “tracing” “swiping” “referencing” “inspiration” etc. etc.
I liked Walt's work, the X-Men/Teen Titans issue, he made Robin look cool. Later, he started his run on Thor. I had purchased Thor #300, but couldn't relate to the character (how does one relate to a God?) and did not continue. Walt's run begins and I missed the first 2 issues and I get the third, no more Dr. Don Blake. So I am interested now but not committed. What did it for me was the simple plot device in the next issue of Thor coming upon the pot of stew, sticking his finger in, feeling that it is warm and then tasting it. That is what got me. Feeling it is warm is "detective work." Tasting it and thinking it's pretty good made the connection with me. One panel sold the next 15 - 20 issues.
Great interview. Too bad he quit teaching, personally I'd rather learn from the guy that learned storytelling 50 or 60 years ago rather than 20 years ago.
The comment about artists scraping word balloons off art pages and sending those back to the writer.....I am told that did actually happen once with a Marvel story (the artist was not Walt!).....
For the love of christ please go back to the old ad format, the new pre-recorded bit really messes up the pacing of the episodes and actively makes me want to skip the ads when before I would always watch them. and if I have to hear that GAT-DAMN bell ONE more time...
So fantastic to have all these Kayfabe interviews. It’s a wealth of information, knowledge and inspiration. Can’t thank you enough for these. Cartoonist Kayfabe Forever!
Walt rules. A total original. Playful, smart, technically brilliant, aesthetically beautiful work. A giant of comics. Respect.
I always believed in my tiny little heart that this day would come--and here it is! There's the desk and errathing!

Same!
I wish Walt's run on the FF had been longer.
One question - 20 min later.....man I love Walt! I could listen to him tell stories for hours.
I’ve been waiting for this! Walt Simonson is one of my top 4 favorites (along with Kirby and Al Williamson.)
I started the day in a depressed mood and this interview really brightened my day. Loved this. Thanks, fellas!
Love the Gerry Talaoc shout out. He was one of the first Filipino artists recruited by Tony Dezungia for DC. He did phantom stranger, and unknown soldier, and a ton of other stuff. One of my favorites.
@@jamesleblanc7437 And over Mignola too!!! Sal left, Mignola came and Gerry remained through the transition, acing both jobs! A master!
@@jamesleblanc7437 fantastic.
Kudos to you for mentioning my favorite Buscema.

I fuckin love how you two can get these kind of creative giants on the show. We're very lucky.
Come on guys, Walt!? You guys are killing it. So great to have all of these awesome creatives on Kayfabe. Seriously creating a wonderful archive for future generations. So dope!
Another home run. Walt is amazing. Gonna say I like his Orion run as much as his Thor. Guy's a giant.
Walt’s FF run was awesome!!!
Walt’s Orion series is criminally underrated
Walt’s Orion was sooo good. It was a slice of comic book heaven. 🔥 🔥 🔥
Thanks for talking to Walt Simonson. Great interview. You guys are some of the best interviewers--you ask intelligent and interesting questions. Very pleasing to watch.

Perez is another king. That would be amazing. He’d get showered with much deserved love and respect.
Just when I thought your interviews couldn't get any better, you hit us with this. What an incredible two hours! Thanks!!
Walter Simonson looks and sounds exactly like I was hoping based on how much I love his art
Ed and Jim, thank you so much for these, I appreciate all the work you do to bring us these gems and golden nuggets.
Gentlemen, you are on a Roll! Some of my earliest comics memories include Archie and Walt's work on MANHUNTER: the layouts were radical, compared to Swan"s SUPERMAN work, at the time. You guys have been killing it with the interview guests!!
The guy is a bona fide legend. Love his work. Nice guy too had the privilege of meeting him in the UK a few years back he signed all my Manhunter editions with a kind work and gratitude.
Uncle Walt! Yes! I’ve been wondering when you guys would have him on!
Still have a bunch of Walt's Thor run from the late 70s and early 80's that my dad gave me years ago. Prize possessions...
A creative powerhouse. One of the nicest people, generous with his time and a massive talent. Thank you for this in-depth interview. Hopefully you guys can get Louise Simonson also!
Very cool. Will watch soon, but Simonson is a great choice. Super talented, great storyteller and a real nice dude.
Walt is such a badass, I never get tired of listening to him. And those quotes “ A longshoreman that could draw like a MFer” 😂That alone was worth the price of admission
Great interview guys! Simonson's Thor run will always be my favorite. That cover for #337 is bloody amazing.
Walter Simonson "Now I'm just rambling." Sir, that is why we are here! Ramble away. I hope you guys do some Ragnorak too and IDW PLEASE REPRINT THOSE!
Walt was a huge part of my life from 1983 after I picked up Thor 337 as a 13yr old.An absolute 80s icon!
Damn so dope. I’m happy to see a Legendary writer and artist still so cool and humble.
That fight in creatures of light and darkness is one of my favorite bits of sf ever written. Zelazny is famtastic.
Such a treat to hear his stories, really hope he comes back for more!

Well done, guys: For letting Walt speak!
Walter & Louise Simonson are comic royalty in my heart and mind.. much love for them
Holy cow! Cannot believe you got two plus hours with this guy. Awesome!
awesome man cant wait to watch all of this
So good. Just going from the jump. Great guest guys. As always, you guys rock. Thanks for sharing.
To hearWalt say “John (Buscema) drew like a mother $:@:@($” 🤩
This is a crown jewel in your interview series.
Walt should do a podcast. I could listen to his stories forever!
Love his enthusiasm for the stories !
I literally got a book from him (The Judas Coin) 3 days ago, and I've enjoyed his writing, and his illustrations is so great!!!
Boy I hope they put volume 2 of his Ragnarok back in print cause I would love to buy it
Great interview guys. Love that there’s a place to go to hear from these legends.

Walt Simonson is so much like George Perez in that in addition to being a world-class writer-artist, he is an incredibly nice person.
Walt Simonson bringing that BDE storytelling into the real world, you couldn't stop the man. Llooking forward to next one already!
Walt Simonson. A true gentleman and a phenomenal artist.
This is incredible. Kudos to all!
you should have asked Walt if he got a "love check" from Silvestri for Cyber Force 0
damn, comics keep you sharp. didn't expect Walt to sound like a 30 year old
I would also like to vote for a Louise Simonson interview.
I liked Walt's work, the X-Men/Teen Titans issue, he made Robin look cool. Later, he started his run on Thor. The FF time-fight between Reed and Doom is a work of genius.
Walters the man love his art and nice guy
I only just learned of the Simonsons-written Havok/Wolverine comic Meltdown - would love to see you guys take an in-depth look at that!
They did eventually cover that mini series. Was great!
You guys should do a shoot interview with James Harren or Daniel Warren Johson! This is the content I came for!
Walt was of a class that ruled the 80s
legend! thanks Ed & Jim
Holy Shit. THIS IS HUGE.
Love Shoot Sundays.
Been waiting for this one, boys.
Great interview. Too bad he quit teaching, personally I'd rather learn from the guy that learned storytelling 50 or 60 years ago rather than 20 years ago.
Thor 337 was mecca when we were kids had to get it long live beta ray bill !!!!
