  • Prayers were finally answered for the family of a teenager who has been missing for the last five years. Emily Paul was just 14 when she vanished from her home outside Tallahassee, Florida, in 2013. She recently sent her family a letter telling them she was alive and well but would not reveal her whereabouts. Her cousin, Melissa Parker, told Inside Edition the family “never gave up hope.” “She's alive, that is the best thing that could have possibly happened,” Parker added. #InsideEdition

I find it interesting how the mom isn’t the one doing the talking, but a cousin is… biggest red flag of them all, sounds like the girl made the right choice.

I don’t know, she waited till she was 19yrs old to come forward. Sounds like she is involved with a man and I she had of come forward when she was a minor, he would of went to prison, she is protecting him. When a girl/woman make a statement I’m happy, it’s a guy (“happy” in her situation).

That's what I immediately thought too. I know how hard it is to get away from an abusive and controlling home life only to have your abusive parents trying to use the law to hunt you down. Pretty typical to have a nonthreatening family member reach out to try and make you feel guilty for leaving. My parents tried through my brother and various aunts and uncles but I left at 17 and never looked back. I'm 40 now and have made my own family and don't regret a thing about leaving home as a teen.

The fact that the cousin is there doing the interview, and not the mother and immediate family, speaks volumes. Clearly, there’s a lot more to the story than just “a teen ran away from home.”
When I was 18, I moved outta my mother’s apartment and joined the military, and haven’t talked to her since. That was in 2001. I completely understand this woman not wanting her family to know where she now lives, even if I don’t know the full story of why.

I left home at 12 and supported myself for several years (I had a job and rented a room from a friend) and I didn't return home until I was 17 and heard my dad was in the hospital. I lived with them for about 6 months to care for my father (who was an awesome and good man), but my mom quickly reminded me of why I left in the first place. A hypothetical kidnapper had all that time to traumatize/brainwash/threaten her. I hope the officer who interviewed her at least asked for her current location and looked into her social-economic status/situation to see if she had like a job, spouse, friends, home, etc to make sure she was telling the truth.

(Which wasn't true but she believed it after being brainwashed) So she made up a lie that she was happy with her life & just didn't want anyone to know where she lives. Most teenagers whether they were kidnapped or however they vanished; once they call their family, most kids whether adult or not would be willing and want to reconnect with their family where they'd either take a plane or road trip home (depending on where she is currently living and how far it is)...but they wouldn't hide there whereabouts from family unless they were in danger meaning whoever this girl might be with could be controlling her. She probably doesn't have the freedom to be able to fly home no matter how much she may want and he/she could be threatening her. There could be a chance that whoever she is with allowed her to write a letter to her mother and allowed to come forward at a police station, but could have threatened her that they would kill her if she told her family where she was living and who she was living with.

Does this story not sound like a sketchy case for the family? Emily was 14 when she left and suddenly showed up at the age of being an adult? Sounds somewhat planned, and with the fact she doesn’t want her family to see her even now sounds even more strange. I have two conspiracy’s:
    1. Either Emily’s family or family member had been abusing or in some way hurting Emily. ( you don’t run away at age 14 for 5 years unless the reason had to be serious). She ran away to hide from them until she was an adult so no one had guardianship over her anymore.
    2. Or. Emily was kidnapped or forced to leave at 14. So he/she waited until Emily was an adult and could legally make her own decisions. Thus being forced to stay with he/she without anyone searching anymore.
Either way the fact she waited until now to show up at the legal age and doesn’t want anything to do with her family sounds completely non ironic and more planned.
