Our Jack lived to be 18. The last year he had anxiety separation so bad. He did not want to let my husband out of his sight. Until then we really didn't have any issues leaving him alone. We had a doggy door, he would go out and nap in the sun.

Just picked up JR this Christmas morning, He's 6 years old. So far so good, follows me around the house. Gave him a clean bath, seem he doesn't mind at all.

My Jack Russell is a rescue. I think he was abused with a former owner. He came with a bite history and major fear issues. If I had keys in my hands he yelped and ran away from me, if tried to unhook leash w keys in hand he would bite, same for if I tried to brush him initially. Fosters got bitten and returned him to the rescue the same day or next. I frequented visits and coming back he was all happy excited and kissy. Took him to foster and ended up adopting him, he was great w my cats and my other dog.
I had to be hospitalized last year. I had a neighbor take care of him, my other dog (she’s my service dog) and the cats. This was very hard on all of us and now struggling to stop his door darting if I need to leave him behind.

Great video as always Josh. My girl used to jump off of the sofa and run up to the TV to see off any four legged animal, then turn back looking really pleased with herself. What I'd give to see her do that again. Sadly I lost her four weeks ago at 13 1/2 years. I will get another JRT as the breed, simply owns my heart. Keep the videos coming mate 👍❤️

I have now an 8 month Jack Russel. We can leave him at home without any mess.
It mostly depends of what you tolerate when you are at home. And never give them anything that looks like something you use this socks , shoes etc. A dog needs to be walked. Time is something dogs do not know. 5min is equal to 3h. If they are dry before, it should be no problem.

We used a crate at night for first few months but it was not his favourite thing. Now Stanley is 6 months he sleeps in a bed or on a sofa overnight and has been left when we went to the cinema with no problems. That said, he has us all the time (we are retired) and is exercised a lot both off and on-lead (we made sure to give him a tiring walk before we went out that day). Maybe we got lucky (although we have a senior jack russell, Patch, who is a good example to the puppy of how to behave and who keeps him calm)? If we can take them with us, we do - it is rare we need to go anywhere that isn't dog friendly. He also has free access to his basket of (mostly) chewy toys - Jack Russells are strong chewers and Stan has been taught from day one not to chew our stuff (at one point, reinforced this with a water spray bottle which worked on him because he is not keen on water in any way, shape or form).

I dedicated a bedroom with curtains left open so I can do a 12 hr shift and left puppy pads around and all his fave toys. Seems to me he slept most of that time… he sleeps often and long at 6 months. He’s a Jack-Chi

I used a crate right from the start. I left him in the crate for 30 mins when I had to dash out on an errand. Very quickly we were leaving him in the crate for 2 hours whilst grocery shopping. Always make sure his favourite toys were in the crate as well as water. Also if possible took him for a potty break before going out.
He would wine and bark as I went out, but upon my return he is normally sitting or laying down calmly. I also make a huge fuss of him and go outside for another potty break.
He has never soiled his crate apart from the first night.
He is now 4 months old.

Toughest thing I ever had to do was leaving my little Jack Russell home by herself when I had to go to work. Ten hours a day was way too long. I felt so cruel. Never left her in a crate. though. Had the run of the house with an open door to the back yard. Of course she slept on the bed with me at night. Had her own bed in the living room during the day. Liked walks.

Totally get the exercise thing. As soon as I could get him out walking did so and it makes a huge difference. The first walk is early morning and on a Saturday I go shopping afterwards so he has burnt off some energy.
Eggsy is 4 months old and I am doing 2/3 short walks a day. He loves his walks and though he comes bs I with lots of energy, he seems a bit calmer when he runs around like a mad thing.

They hate if you work in the yard without them, but the lawn mower is not safe around dogs, especially ones that want to kill it.
Golden rule with terriers- protect them from themselves, especially if you have one with strong prey drive.
I highly recommend a large crate for a full grown dog. With a chewey and a bowl of water, I find a well trained adult of any breed won't eat or drink when no one is home. Excersize excersize excersize. JRT is a FULL time dog. My sheepdog could care less and is calm as the day is long (a bit depressive and mopes) but the JRT is very vocal and will protest! Thank goodness the Sheepdog is a real nanny gentle and sweet with the discipline- I'd go nuts without her. The JRT puppy will probably outlive her. I'll get another Bouvier, they're perfect with JRTs like labs. Both are the most intelligent dogs. You need to pair the JRT with opposite sex spayed or neutered- and a dog with equal intelligence or greater, I find the Bouv perfect for this as their temperament is also steady and they have a good sense for the ridiculous- which is what the JRT is- ridiculously funny.
I'm on my third JRT, in 25 yrs- Two lived till 17 (I miss them) and one is a five month old puppy.
I almost forgot how crazy those puppies are after all these years.. I'm getting a bit old for this!!

I'd really love you to do a video on how much exercise they can do. I am between a JRT and a Vizsla, JRTs are more convenient (and funny) but I am worried it wouldn't be able to keep up. I'd like a trail dog, and if they could do shorter mountain bike rides that would be brilliant!

My Jack's with pad trained can be alone two days.
    However each dog is different
I have two together and they were raised with cats .
One cat took moms puppies when mom left after birth.
They have only been in crate very rarely.
The dogs will get mad and pee on something .
Why I put a pad on my bed.
    Yet each dog is different.
My dogs dont eat things with there toys.
Remember that females when with puppies have very small bladders.
My dogs have free run of house when gone

To me "crate" is a euphemism for "cage" I never leave my female JR alone she is always by my side and there's no way I would leave her locked in a cage all on her own. Of course they can get used to being locked in a cage ask any prison inmate who is locked up every night, they have to get used to it they have no choice.

I would go with a bowl and do 3-4 half cups measured per day of the dry food your breeder recommends
When they grow a bit you can cut to two cups per day in the evening and morning
In the beginning while growing they need a few a few extra opportunties to eat

Dogs can be trained to hold their pee for eight hours or more but there are two words that aren't part of the scenario and they are, "without discomfort' . Crating your dog is wrong cruelty to animals is another term that comes to mind. We've been fighting to free zoo animals from cages and concrete pits while you are locking them up in steel crates., doesn't make any sense ti me.
