  • With the growing adoption of EVs, tire manufacturers have created an entirely new segment specifically dedicated to that market - the EV tire. Although not everyone is convinced that an EV dedicated tire is 100% necessary, so AutoGuide Editor, Mike Schlee, tested Sailun's new ERANGE tire to help answer the question: do you really need an EV tire?

So what happens if you used them on a gas engine vehicle, would your gas mileage improve?

I would imagine they would improve gas mileage, but may ride rougher because the load is lighter.

Has anybody ever bothered to calculate is parking structures are rated to take all the extra weight of EVs?

      Yes

Yup. Garages handle about 40 pounds per sq ft. The average lot space is rated for over 6k lbs. Think about the fact that they can handle cars plus snow on the top level in northern climates.

@@mrstinky2421 Over 6,000lbs isn't very much. That's basically just the weight of a Tesla Model X + 2 passengers and a little cargo. Imagine when a fully loaded Hummer EV rolls in.

Sailun tires are terrible. The previous owner to save money put Sailun tires on my SLK320, 15k KM later I had to replace them as they had a low speed growl... These are made in China btw

but, wait...every reason you give for this being for an EV, or non, makes it the tire for any vehicle.
i just don't get, or fall for, the distinction here between any tire for an EV vs regular propelled vehicle.
    better range...any car.
better tracion or less traction...any vehicle.
wear...same for any vehicle they are put on.
    just garbage
