1855 built Steam Engine - The EIR 21 "Express" & a Heritage Run Through Chennai | Republic Day 2013

- Опубликовано: 29 июл 2024
- Location : Chennai Egmore, Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam, Mambalam.
Train : Republic Day HERITAGE Special
Loco : EIR 21 "EXPRESS" (EIR : East India Railway)
EIR 21 "EXPRESS", Worlds Oldest Locomotive built in 1855 hauls the Egmore-Guindy-Egmore Heritage Special.
This is how the video goes about.
First, I capture the train, the coach's interior and the loco. Then i proceed to Nungambakkam curve and get the cute honking, rather hooting of the EIR. Then i rush to nungambakkam station, take an EMU and go to Kodambakkam where the EIR stops for 15 minutes. As soon as my EMU leaves Kodambakkam, i take some snaps and run towards Mambalam alongside the track. At a considerable distance i stop as the train departed Kodambakkam and get another video of the same. Later I take an EMU to Guindy (1 hr later), i see the Special returning with TNP WDM2 hualing it. :)
Hope u enjoyed the video. Here is some info about this loco.
Stothert-built Express, has been preserved at Jamalpur Locomotive Workshop since 1901.[10] As the inscription on Express' pedestal claims that it is the first locomotive to operate between Howrah and Raneegunge, and it is also numbered EIR 21 to Fairy Queen's 22, it has been claimed that Express is the older of the two. Express was restored for running in 2011, making it another contender as the world's oldest operating steam locomotive.
Christened EIR 21 Express by its creators Kitson Thompson and Hewitson of England, the steam locomotive was shipped to the Indian sub-continent in 1855. It swayed carrying loads of people and cargos for 55 years, blowing the whistle to the wonderment of the passengers.
After withdrawal from service in 1909, the loco was exhibited at Jamalpur Workshops and Howrah station for over 101 years. After hibernating for a little more than a century at Jamalpur Workshops, the Loco Works, Perambur in Chennai took the challenge of reviving the 158-year-old steam loco in April 2010. The loco had its first heritage run between Chennai Central and Avadi on August 15, 2010. - Авто/Мото
Railways should run this train along the mettupalayam to coimbatore section on a daily basis adjacent to mettupalayam to ooty passenger, so that a complete vintage train journey can be made from coimbatore to ooty.
SUPER.
This piece of Heritage steam engine should be arranged in out skirts of Chennai city, in a park like an exhibition by S R with an IRTCTC management undertaking, just like Rewari Rail Museum.
for godsake why do ppl have to hang on the engine? And the loco should have been painted in its original livery instead of the gaudy tricolor. A good occaoson spolt by over enthusiasim
I just read on the net that 15 000 people die on Indian railways each year. It seems a crazy place.
@@kentrobison588 Why should we worry about that? they are fine with it themselves.
Don't you know India, that was the original livery. Look at old photos.
You don't need a time machine to travel back in time
just board this train and re-live the past in one single journey
+Deathstroke Exactly :)

Excuse me, IndianTrains Railfan, I read that this is one of the oldest steam locomotives in the world that's still in full operation, and I was wondering just how often do you run her and how much running can she still handle?
The loco is run twice or thrice a year :)
IndianTrains Railfan "gaffes
you have to wonder how much of that loco is actually original? like it would be possible to return stephenson's rocket to working order by replacing everything apart from the whistle. which is why they just built a replica and kept the original in a museum...
Indeed but this is the original locomotive and the ones in the museum are the later ones and not the original :)
That depends what you characterize as original, is a valve from lets say 1860, or a set of new pistons from lets say 1885, no locomotive that has had a service life is factory original. and you can argue that keeping them running with the parts they need is also a form of preservation of the machine as long as the overall machine stays intact and you only change the expendable objects that are meant to be changed.
From a more philosophical perspective: The majority of your body cells has also been replaced over the course of 7 to 10 years yet you are still the same and some cells are made to last a life time. same thing with machine parts.
wiamoaw this loco is maintained even some parts have become out of service duration, the loco is rated at 25 mph for running at full 137 bhp (90 kW)
You need to re word the video the title is fine, that isn't the oldest steam loco it is the oldest running one. Plus you need to make it infer that it is the oldest locomotive that runs not the longest running as there are many that have run far longer than this.
Thank you so much :)
i dont have any idea why it didnt return by itseld :(
but normally the WDM2 hauls it back
Thank you.
AFAIK public wasnt allowed. I went 2 hours in advance and met the SM. He was inside the coach when i asked the RPF whether i could get in. he asked the RPF to allow me inside and take videos but said he didnt have the rights to allow me to travel by the train :(
Yeah bro.
this is EIR21 "EXPRESS"
EIR 21 is the oldest loco. :)
thanks for the other infos :)
What steam engine? All i see is decorations and people hanging on wherever there is place. Would be nice to actually see the loco.
Looks like a Peter built to me🤗

Krishna Krish Thank you :)

Kamala Vasudevan Thank you for watching :)
IndianTrains Railfan no i must thankyou for showing us this marvelous video hats off sir and keep doing like these videos and feast our eyes once again thank you sir
Kamala Vasudevan Sorry but I am only 18. Please do not embarass me by calling me sir :D It is my pleasure :D
Unfortunately, this isn't the oldest operatable steam locomotive. That title belongs to the John Bull.
I think the better title would be the oldest locomotive in continual operation.
Must...resist...obvious...Thomas reference!!
Let us open up mammoth springs station if I find the owner I'll talk to him 😀
Buddy, JOHN BULL is the oldest steam locomotive in the world. Built in 1831!
Also a look-alike
Indiya me fir se Steam engen chalu kiya jay Pranab sinha
Thats a good point to note.. :(
I dont know why SR guys get hyperenthusiastic abt this/.
OMG It’s rajiv
Usha Vamsi yes he is ! :)
i know u missed it :(
Dude.... John Bull aint in working condition :P
This historic event totally ruined by disfiguring this priceless specimen of a steam locomotive with what are considered noble colours. For the event to have been of any value to true steam aficionados , the engine should obligatorily have been refurbished to its original finish as it left the factory. This event can only be classified as absolutely degrading and sacrilegious and an insult to this glorious steam engine and its long gone makers and to all steam enthusiasts across the world. An absolute tragic farce for sure.
:(
Too bad you can't actually see the locomotive for all the dressing nd the half dozen people constantly standing on it.
Poor colour choice. Tricolor doesn't look beautiful everywhere. Looked more like a museum train out on a ride with children.
Thank you so much :)
Thank you :)
Thank you sir :)
