    Love this casual-style video. It's like vlogging of what you guys do on a typical day in Hanoi. The people, scenes, food, etc., were all a glimpse into what life is like there on an average day. I like how you guys explored the alleys and hidden gems that other vloggers whom fast travel don't get to see/experience.

      @mikeandashley  8 месяцев назад +1

      We are kind of experimenting with posting a few more “day in the life” type of videos here and there. Just a bit more causal. We’re happy you liked it!
      The alleys in Vietnam is where the real magic happens! We spend a lot of time exploring them in our day to day, but always feel shy to record, as we don’t want to just broadcast everyone’s lives online. 😅

      @@mikeandashley Yeah, Max McFarlin loves the alleys of Hanoi. Sonny from the Best Ever Food Review Show did a video when he first got there that was like a love letter to Vietnam in a video titled "The Hidden Vietnam". @12:08 I believe she said her favorite was “quả roi”, which I did some research into this, is known by its scientific name “Syzygium malaccense”, or commonly known as Malay rose apple. However, in Vietnamese, “quả” means “fruit” in general. “Roi”, however, when used separately, it literally means the whip (the thing you use to hit people) so the translator just called it “whip fruit” 😂

    You have an extremely convenient translation machine that can break down many language barriers and learn about many cultures around the world. Vietnamese is extremely difficult and is the only country in Asia with a script that uses Latin characters, created by Portuguese, Italian and French priests, you know. Before that, Vietnam used Nom characters similar to Chinese characters

    • @mikeandashley

    HI! Love your videos! Can you please tell me what area you suggest to stay in Hanoi. I know that the old quarter is very busy. But considering where you want to be because that is where most of the things you will want to visit. Where would you suggest? Or if it old quarter is where most of everything is. But you think that there is someplace in walking distance that is a little less busy. Thanks for any input!

    • @mikeandashley
      @mikeandashley  8 месяцев назад

      So for your first time in Hanoi, staying in the Old Quarter is probably preferred as most of the activities you’d want to do and sights you want to see will be centralized around that area.
      We recommend this place to stay: booking.tp.st/AyJYFw73 as it’s just outside of the hectic part of old quarter and around some really nice places to eat.
      That being said, depending on what you call “walking distance” the neighborhoods of Ba Dinh, Dong Da and Truc Bach are all really nice places to stay, with their own character and are about a 20-30 min walk to the heart of Old Quarter.
      We always suggest spending at least 3-4 days in Old Quarter during your first visit, but if you can, checking out these neighborhoods can be really rewarding!
