As enjoyable as this deleted scene was it would've been too far out of character for River to not comprehend about incest..... I did like the knowing Saffron is a thief. The viewers able to see that she was using mental reading abilities of future events but the other characters only thinking River merely "saw" Saffron steal something.
I've always thought their some kind of incestuous "flowers in the attic" relationship going on between River & Simon. This cut scene kind of confirms that.
I agree. They could have kept this scene in, sans the incest part. Probably cut due to time constraints and wanting to not reveal Saffron's intentions too early.

I'm of the absolute opposite opinion. Simo-River was great because mentally unstable people (or people with childlike minds/personalities) to say/do some awkward stuff sometimes. What sux horrible, and makes me glad it was deleted, was Mal's absurd fymynyst preaching that is just Hollyweird propaganda invading a fictional world 500 years in the future. That's the real reason Saffron is so disturbing on this episode. Because she's one of those evil "traditional" females. fymynyst trash ruined Book in this episode and made him a hyer-judgmental crazy man, exact opposite of what he is in everyone other episode, literally comparing having secs with an adult consenting woman with someone who mohlysts children. Why? because she's not an obnoxious propaganda powergirl but instead meek ad sweet and subservient - oh the humanity! lol Hollyweird preaching has been invading all their products for many decades. So sad, without Mal's intervention, poor "simple-minded" Saffron would never grow up to be a powerful IG or Tik-Tok e-girl. lol

You can be sweet and kind while still making sure others don't take advantage of you like Saffron was obviously trying to lead Mal to believe he could. I'm not saying all women need to be represented as gun-slinging badasses, nor do all men, but telling a woman that she needs to keep her head down and listen to any man spewing orders at her is an absurdity in its own right.

Anyone hear about the tweet storm from Fox and the actors about Firefly recently? They were saying they have talked about a Firefly reboot and although nothing is moving forward, they are considering it. They are just looking, really, to see if there is a story to be told and in what framework (old characters or new ones).
It was the only scene in the episode that wasn't essential to the story, so for time they had to cut it. It's a shame, because everyone loved the scene.
I love Firefly and I am obsessed with the first four books of the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I wish some of you really creative types would read the series and watch all fifteen Firefly offerings and create an amalgamation of the the two and put it on the web. Fan fiction is scary but I would love read it /see it/hear it/ or have someone tell me about it. Some of it would be great. Maybe even do some fan movies or animation. What a world it would be.
Randal Flagg escapes to the verse instead of being killed by Mordred. Roland stopped dreaming of RF and thinks nothing of him but continues his pursuit of the Dark Tower. Before the series Flagg becomes a high ranking member of the Alliance and responsible for the Reavers creation as seen in Serenity. Mal is actually a twinner of a deceased gunslinger that knew Roland. That slim connection is still enough for Mal to have visions and dreams of Randall Flagg and a rose back on Earth that River also seen in his mind. They become obsessed with going back to the used up Earth to find the rose that they think is calling out to them. The crew of Serenity believe Mal ia going crazy but go along with him. With Flagg and the Alliance in pursuit of them for the events of Serenity and to destroy the Rose.
It's funny this came up, i watched that episode again last week and remarked that River wasn't in the entire episode, obviously because she would have picked up on Saffron's evil intentions. This was to try and cover that issue here i guess, but the scene is a little awkward.

Lol! At first I was like, "Any part of the epicness that is Firefly was deleted! NOOOO!!" Now, I'm kind of glad. It's a little distracting. I get that it's supposed to be about how crazy River is, but still... Also, while I like the prophetic part from River, I think that Mal was more than a bit harsh too. Not a great scene all around, and I can see why it was left out.
