Loved watching this video. I love the combination of both your lighthearted approach and the elaborate picture you paint in comparing the games. I will hold on to Carcassonne and put Land Vs Sea on my wishlist. Thank you for putting this video together!
Been really enjoying your content after finding it recently. Especially the comparison videos, they've been super informative for someone like me that has gotten into the board game hobby pretty recently. They provide something concrete to compare to than more abstract discussions about mechanics
Thank you so much Jonathan for your lovely comment. It is sometimes nice to compare games. I often find myself comparing two games in a game store and struggling to decide which one to get! I end up buying both. :)
I loved this video! Your style of teaching and humor is wonderful and fun! I definitely will be buying Land vs. Sea, it’s in my wheelhouse of games that appeal to me.
Note: A review copy of the game was kindly provided by the publisher. Additionally, the main focus of this review is on the TWO PLAYER mode of Land Vs Sea which is the main way to play. 8:55 (one tile here is not placed in the right orientation. The idea of placing the volcano tile and whirlpool still remains unchanged)
If we just take into consideration the base games Land vs. Sea seems to be the better choice. However I think it is important to note that Carcassonne has gazillion expansions at this point which provides much greater variability and as so easily outshines its competitor. I guess time will tell whether Land vs. Sea will get more expansions in the future, however I am not so sure whether it needs one at all. Thanks for the comparison!
Well, I like both. I just got my German version of Land vs. Sea. Carcassonne is the more complex game rulewise. Land vs. Sea has the more easy rules, but is more of a brain burner in my opinion. Even more if you add the addtional rules regarding victory points. I enjoy both :)
Does more options in Land vs. Sea also mean more downtime for thinking about the best move? Definitely looks interesting, even if the theme is too abstract for me. Is there a reason you didn't explain the farmer rule in Carcassonne? This was an integral part of the rules for a long time until it was moved as an expert rule for a younger audience.
Yeah there is a bit of down time when playing Land Vs Sea especially as the game progresses and the board area gets larger and larger cause there are so many places to you put your tiles. With Carcassonne, to be honest, I actually completely forgot to write it in the script and film it. I'm sorry! I'll remember for next time. :)
Of course Carcassonne is much better. The ingenious system with the meeples and tile placement is taken to perfection. It is my favourite game for 2-players. Its an amazing competitive game since the memory of the tiles remaining adds a a huge skill reward. It seems you are not really into competitive 1vs1 Carcassonne. Thus, I question if you are at a high enough skill level. High enough to compare the skill reward in the two games. And in my opinion... the skill reward is very important. The contesting of projects, blocking completion of projects, locking opponent's meeples to the board, taking high reward risks. The farmer rule. How the memory of the tiles remaining aids your play at a higher level... every match is different. Carcassonne is brilliant. Your comments reveal your lack of understanding. Few options because you have only one tile to place? But that is the key to the game brilliance. As the board expands you can place the tile at so many locations and then you must choose to include a meeple or not. Also the farmer rule is essential in making Carcassonne epic. I will of course buy Land vs Sea also.
The meeple system in Carcassonne is what differentiates it apart from Land Vs Sea. That public scoring knowledge is a game changer. Land Vs Sea does hit the same enjoyment level you get from playing a game of Carcassonne.
Hey we love Cascadia too. It's great. But Land vs Sea is a very different game with a totally different and far more interactive feel as you all play on the same map together, potentially even scoring from the tiles your rival plays in different ways. I don't know that I'd realistically compare Land vs Sea with Cascadia they are so different. Totally a case of "why not both?" @@kimbrebach9246 i didn't know players had to play on the same map the first time i watched a video so i was like nahh Cascadia is way better lol, but i wached a playthrough then i noticed that. i really like Cascadia. and ordered this one!

Isle of skye enters chat
Now that is a brilliant tile laying game. :)
When will this be available to purchase?
I think it is available now.
Which tiles are easier to see?
I would say the Carcassonne ones definitely.
🏝️ ⛵
Is that land or sea? :)
cascadia is prolly better then both.
