  • Tokyo Mighty Guy aka Rambler in the Sunset is a rather obscure Japanese action comedy from 1960, directed by Buichi Saito (Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in Peril, The Rambling Guitarist).
The film stars the legendary Akira Kobayashi as a chef who returns from Paris to open a restaurant in the Ginza district in Tokyo. Kobayashi ends up getting into all sorts of shenanigans with his friends, the local yakuza and even politicians.
Rambler in the Sunset basically falls in line as one of many Japanese youth films from the period, with its fast pace, energetic yet playful action sequences and pop aesthetic. It's no masterpiece but if you go in with the right mindset it is fantastic fun.
The film can be found on Arrow Video's Nikkatsu Diamond Guys vol. 2 set.
I hope you enjoy - any criticism is much appreciated :)
