I feel a connection to Ukrainian culture and previous struggles of the Ukrainian people when I listen to Drudkh. I have no connection in my life to anything Ukrainian, but I FEEL it!! One of the best bands ever! Please do Skies at our feet! My all time favorite!!!!
English lyrics from metal-archives: And early spring laughed: "It’s time!" Behind the Black Road, behind the Great Meadow - My great-grandfather and great-great, great-great - Everybody follow Time, like a plough. Behind a field there’s a field, behind a field - a field and a field Behind the Black Road, behind the Great Meadow, They are already in a mist - like a mist - Everybody already follow Time, like a plough. What a heavy steps Eternity haves! Behind the Black Road, behind the Great Meadow. Such free and young - Is it real that I already follow Time, like a plough?! What I will plough? What a field I will sow? Behind the Black Road, behind the Great Meadow Is it real that I’m in a mist too - like a mist - And I already follow Time, like a plough?..
Drudkh uses various poems from diferent ukranian poets, this one is from Lina Kostenko , poem is "І засміялась провесінь...", 1980. (found the info on metal archives)
The Great Meadow is a historic name of a specific area of reed beds (if that's the right way to put it) in Ukraine, where the Cossacks of the Zaporozhian Sich used to graze livestock and hunt. It was also easier to hide there, so the Great Meadow was associated with safety and freedom.
I remember the first time I heard Drudkh. It was a lot for me to take in, it's a band up there with Opeth. Once you hear them it's extremely hard to not remember that first moment. Drudkh has forever been one of my all-time go-to's like Mastodon, Opeth, Meshuggah, Gojira. It's just a band that will NEVER disappoint in any way or form. With all that being said, if they could go even deeper into the hole with something like Early Thorns, Taake, Judas Iscariot, Ulver, Abigor. The list will never end!
I've always had this image in my head of the guitar players playing circles on their guitars during that solo. Absolutely brilliant. This band are one of the great black metal bands.
Don't know if y'all noticed this, but one of the beautiful things I noticed in this song back when I first heard it is that the acoustic part that is played at 1:19 in the song by itself, is repeated electrically, but with the drums, and bass included at 3:20, giving it a more epic emphasis.
If you like this one then you probably may like Svrm - Zgaryshche (another one awesome Ukrainian black metal band). Personally i am recommend it to you.
There are some epic moments in the song which you wanna hear over and over again. So if a song contains at least one epic moment - i cant resist from going into repeat mode.
Drudkh is some of the best modern black metal there is. So many great songs on Blood in Our Wells and their debut, especially, but all of their albums bring something. They're a great first step into the incredible Ukrainian/Russian black metal scene. It's slowed down a little bit more recently, but 10-15 years ago the best black metal in the world was consistently coming out of these scenes.
Don't know about the Russian scene, but our Ukrainian scene nowadays is going very strong with Eskapism, Colotyphus, Khors, Severoth, Morkt Tre and many more!
Ukraine has a lot of great bands. To add to Ingvar's comment: Lutomysl, Nokturnal Mortum, Dub Buk, Blood of Kingu, Do Skonu, Hate Forest, Vöedtæmhtëhactått (late).. and oh gosh, we have a bunch of really good raw BM bands
FYI The Black Trail and the Grand Meadow are the actual places. The latter was drowned by the Kakhovka reservoir before the russians blew up the dam in Jun 2023, and is now recovering.
Blood in our wells. Yea look at thair history they have plenty of blood in thair wells. They where almost all starved to death read The Golag Archipelago the storys from thair just make you cry and feel like death
I found you guys today and watched all of the grunge related reactions especially pearl jam and really love the discussion you have after the songs, since you guys are Christian and also seem to love pearl jam I suggest the band " live " They have a alternative grunge style and are from the 90s aswell Some of their best songs are Lightening crashes I alone All over you Beauty of gray TBD

@@alexleon2944 well, can you put source of it, please? Ok i found. Well, You were right. In terms of vocabulary, yes, 22% of similar words with Polish and 11% is russian. Well ok, but there are more similar languages to ukraininian www.ukrainianlessons.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/ukrainian-russian-lexical-distance-1.jpg and i think on terms of language sounding and pronunciation ukraininian is more similar to east slavonic languages like russian, belarusian, than to west slavonic like Polish, Czech etc. So yes, vocabulary closer, but soft sounding od ukrainian language is more similar to russian i think. So for somebody out of our locations ukrainian sounds more russian-like than west-slavonic one. That was my point. That's pointed also by assign ukrainian to east slavonic, aside of Polish which belongs to west slavonic family. But under circumstances of vocabulary yes, You are right👍
@@alghul66 Ok, I have also found. U had done it before. It's not difficult because it's proved. It seems only as Russian and Ukrainian close. Russians hardly understand pure Ukrainian.
I’d love to see their reaction to Hate Forest. Maybe one of the three black metal tracks off of Battlefields with their incredibly fast electronic drumming and intense vocals.
I can see how this song can seem a bit long and repetitive. Do yourself a favor and try Cursed Sons 1 or the first track off of the album, “They Often See Dreams About The Spring. This track is legit. Glad to see it was selected.
Wow. Cynic, and now Drudkh? You guys are responding to some exceptional recommendations this week. Hope you're all doing well.
YES, drudkh finally. They're my favourite band
I highly reccomed doing Solitude or When the flame turns to Ashes, those songs are absolute perfection
Drudkh is one of my favorite bands. I'm impressed that you got hold of it.
DRUDKH - The Night Walks Towards Her Throne
The lyrics are classical ukrainian poetry about nature
Yes my favorite of their recent song, very intense and epic
the most appropriate band of the Moment

Drudkh is a legend, yeah. Also i saw Hate Forest at the stage last year

You should do their latest song that they've released today early because their city is currently a conflict zone
Drudkh means forest in Sanskrit :)
Autumn aurora their best for me :)

Drudkh is an old sanskrit word meaning wood (we would say wood or forest)
Exercises of futility is a Masterpiece!!
Do Drudkh - Solitude next
Great song! I'm still getting into some black metal and I don't love all of it, but the good ones, like this, are nearly transcendent
Sounds like the more atmospheric black metal bands would be up your alley if you enjoy this.
Try this.

Wood or wood ghost /wood spirits
