I feel for Woody, when you're accustomed to a warm, mild climate, any big drop in temperature feels SO cold. My first winter in Northeast WA after living in CA for 20 years was the coldest I'd ever been in my entire life. The first time I stepped out into single digit temps...oof. It took probably 5 years before my body adjusted. Now I overheat the moment it hits 80°F lol!

When you are wearing your mask you can’t breathe through it, it’s all through your mouth on the loop, once you take it off it’s really difficult to breathe 100% through your mouth, there’s always a little bit that will go through your nose unconsciously, so the plug allows them to ensure mouth breathing while taking a break from wearing a mask.

Woody's "I don't even know what they're doing" summarizes how insanely precise things become the more you learn and get into them, including most professions in general. This is on the "My life is cave diving" level and his statement is a testament to how much skill and effort these people have to do what they love.

I nearly drowned as a kid in California beach I'm not 100% sure where it was but I was so far out into the water that people on the beach look like little tiny ants. I got hit by a rogue wave after stepping on a jellyfish at that point I panicked it did not sting me but I felt it squishy head underneath my foot and that's when I started swimming like crazy panicking. I was so far out that a shark easily could have swam up next too me the water got slowly deeper as you went out. If I had to guess I was more than a mile out from the beach even the lifeguard would have not noticed me. I was body surfing at the time and I got hit by the rogue Wave and it crushed me so much by the water pressure that every part of my body was unable to move from the weight of the water I basically became a stone tumbling on the ocean floor. I would love to talk about it sometime. If I had been stung by the jellyfish I probably would have died for sure. The weight of the water compressed my body to the point that I could not move a single muscle I could not breathe I was completely stationery but tumbling like a log rolling through the ocean floor and eventually the weight and pressure of the water lifted as the wave passed. I swam to the surface and breathe immediately and then I got back to shore... Was terrifying

After watching you guys if I ever had the money I think I would actually consider going to diving School especially with you guys and learning. One of my greatest fears is the ocean and water hence why I play a lot of deep sea diving games including the subnautica and ark survival ascended. I have been trying to conquer my fear of deep sea diving in a video game I have gone to the bottom of an ocean full of giant squid megalodon sharks and all sorts of other things. The game ark survival ascended is so unbelievably realistic that if you don't have a diving mask when you go into the water the water is murky for the first period of time that I was playing at I didn't realize that the diving mask made that much of a difference and I was diving in cloudy water going down hundreds of meters with my oxygen upgraded in the game so I could breathe without scuba gear and I would encounter bioluminescent jellyfish and other things suddenly and it scared the s*** out of me but then I started using scuba gear in the game and I could see just fine eventually I would tame what equates to something like an orca in size as well as an angler fish and also a megalodon shark and I swim in the water with confidence now. Lol inevitably though I think I might actually consider diving for real conquering my fear only if I had thorough training

The point you made about how videos with just diving footage hides the background work and preparation. This team had to build and setup their base camp well before anyone went in the water. They built a decompression Hut! With its own oxygen! I counted about 8-10 support for 2 divers.
I also loved how much glee you both showed in seeing people working at a much higher level. "Could you do that?" and "Nope!" An important part of safety that isn't much fun is to know your limitations. To be able to look at a cave or a cliff and want very much to do it but knowing that it's beyond your level. Maybe that spurs you to practice more. Maybe you get into the support side. Far too many tragic stories start with little to no knowledge of their own abilities and limitations. And of course don't forget to enjoy what you can do!
I can barely swim, so I watch Woody and Gus in a similar way. They are further than I could ever be. I watch very happily and then float slowly with my kids. We all have a good time.

I'm generalizing from the fact that there is a cold foot syndrome (Raynaud's) and hot foot syndrome (erythromelalgia). Alas, as I can testify, it's possible to have both of those. Both Raynaud's and erythromelalgia are disorders of temperature control systems in the body. Overall disorders of those systems would result in hot/cold human's diseases.

13:39 funniely enough, we germans mostly think everything sounds more bad-ass in american. But that is probably just that it's not what you are used to hearing, so it sounds interesting

Double 7s on their JJs I assume refers to two tanks of 7 litre at 200 bar capacity in each tank, and a JJ manufactured rebreather apparatus.

it's funny, the cave diving I can't do. The surveying, though, that bit is totally doable!

around minute 7:58 to answer this: you need to know how to rig highlines that will act as a carriage system to get your gear to each of the three points. There is a good photo of their carriage line setup at 8:00 min mark. Depends on what part of the world you are in but sometimes these things are taught to first responders for technical rescue or other times to workers that work at height called rope-access. Yeah, I got into this stuff like you all did cave diving.

I used to work as a flight attendant and after you finish your day which is 6-10 hours of flying you do feel the same bonding with the crew

The little fella on the left was really thinking what he would say to the dive team if he was there " Hi guys I am Woody and all you all are welcome to take a puff on my skin snorkel. I will gladly do the same for you."
