  • Opinionated DS9 Episode Guide continues the Dukat story. The poor schmuck has been demoted to a vessel so primitive he's hoping to upgrade to a Kia of Prey. Plus, the wonderfully robust Federation rifles.

Dukat is such a great villain at this point. "Everything I have lost. I will regain." So purposefully dramatic.

Dukat is the sort of person where it doesn't matter that he's the manager of a grocery store. He runs that grocery store like the Navy.

So if Trader Joe’s nautical theme went overboard?

I think this was the point where Dukat swung towards being sympathetic or an anti hero for the audience. Indiscretion was the starting point, but Return to Grace really drove it home.

Anti-hero is a bit of a stretch. Just last episode he was telling Kira about how the Bajoran occupation was good for them. Anti-villain, maybe.

@@noblehelium3794 I think the most appropriate term for Dukat is sympathetic villain. I see very little in Dukat that isn't villainous. He just gets better at masking his sociopathy over time. (Until his Pah Wraith induced breakdown, that is.)

And yet his final choice for his own glorification did him in. I didn’t think he was taking ownership…it was a subtle way to blame and threaten that he’d get everything he lost (including bajor)

I always loved this concept of Dukat having a Bird of prey. Part of me thinks that he somehow came to our reality, watched Star Trek 3, and got inspired.

Stealthy, hits hard for its size, small crew. If you were designing a ship for LaResistance you'd end up with something very like it.

Dukat...his ego is undefeated. It may bruise, but it will never break. So even if he is in command of a pathetic Cargo Freighter, his ego will find a way

I've always wondered if Kira's little giggle after "I'd have agreed to anything after that..." was Nana Visitor realizing the double-entendre or if it was written into the scene.

What I found funny about this episode was that when that Klingon captain told his subordinate to check the weapons room, there was a Klingon sitting on his butt doing NOTHING.

I would have liked it if at some point in DS9 they brought back Gul Macet and have Marc Alaimo switch between the smarmy, self-absorbed shithead of Gul Dukhat and the comparatively reasonable Gul Macet.
In the DS9 books, they establish the two were cousins and Macet was incredibly annoyed at his cousin's strong family resemblance.

I had a brainfart and wondered why there was an episode titles "Return to Garage."

I wonder if the power pack falling out of the rifle was a jab at the M16/M4. They like to drop mags.

I've said before that revamping these older episodes is a great way to find episodes that I haven't seen in a while or didn't catch the first time around. Nana, Marc and Casey are all terrific actors. It would have been a massive blow to have lost Casey. Although Gul Dukat was so often alone, there needed to be an occasional ally and successor.

Almost every single time I have a half second of pure outrage about how low the score is, then remember that it's just because DS9 was generally just that fucking good.

Damar's debut - Casey has been open about relying on Marc Alaimo when he showed up for this gig the first time because he felt out of his depth.

Dukat is absolutely one of the best villains in all television, not just Star Trek. He's by turns hateful, ambitious, proud, patriotic, loving, desperate... We get to see him at every possible point of who he is and how he became the man willing to unleash a force of absolute destruction by the end of the series. He's fantastic!

Dukat and Kira could have great chemistry together... If it wasn't for the pesky fact that he's basically Space []-[]itler and she would be well justified to terminate him sight.

Nana Vistor was told that this episode would be the start of a romantic relationship between Kira and Dukat. Of could the writers were just trolling Vistor much to her relief.

Would you in the future do a video on the gargoyles comics that are Canon? I'm talking about the comic books Grant Wiseman worked on to continue this series after the show was canceled. By the way, the Goliath Chronicles are not Canon, that's what Greg Wiseman said. Except for that one episode of season 3 of the Goliath Chronicles that he wrote was Canon.

I'm sure he excused that "intel gathering" on grounds of knowing what carrots to use, and how best to break them with sticks, but Dukat really needs a different way of spending his free time. Can someone go replicate up a bunch or train kits and model space elevators to leave on his doorstep? Fas people talk about trains running on time, so maybe that can keep him preoccupied.
