FLW BFL on Lake Eufaula in new Vexus (6 FT SWELLS!!!)

- FLW Fishing - 2019 BFL Okie tournament on Lake Eufaula.
There were boats that didn't make it back to check-in. This was definitely a test for the new Vexus to see how she'd handle it. It gets pretty rough in this video - watch to see it all unfold.
This was day one of our April 2019, 2-day tournament on Lake Eufaula, OK. The day started off fairly calm, but by the time we were making a run back to check in, the wind speed picked up to about 35 mph and the lake was a complete washing machine.

I'm sorry--- I didn't see anything that remotely looked close to 6' swells. After you said "it got worse", the boat went faster & never lost the horizon. That's not 6 footers. This looked like maybeeee 2 footers. 3' max.
My dad has a Vexus 2080 things is a dream on 3 footers
That might be 3 fo footers dat ain’t no 6 footers t
Not even close to 6'. Come run that in the Chesapeake Bay and then talk to me about rough.
I've learned majority of the bass community doesn't know how to read wave height so decide by 2 for actual height
Wasn't even 2ft... Another fishing tale!
I fished this event. It may not look it but I can assure you there were 5 and 6 footers main lake. Eufaula gets dangerous
@@jaypowell79 Nope, sorry. Here's an example of 6fters (see 3min mark): ruclips.net/video/wQXWEfTYiXk/видео.html
You little 5'6" southern gentleman need to learn how to measure. The waves in this video are like 1-1.5ft waves with the occasional 2fter. Very moderate conditions. From now on, let people who fish in the north (aka people who actually fish big water with big waves) measure your waves for you!
Well you don’t have to believe him. But I’m field staff for FLW for the Okie, Arkie, Ozark, and Cowboy divisions. And I run media for the Tour. I was at this event. I had to go out with a boater who’s co-angler didn’t show. They were 6 footers. They were as bad as anything I’ve ever been in and that includes Kentucky Lake with a strong south wind. Eufala is a big lake that runs north/south. A north or south wind at 15-20 is no fun. The wind was 25-30 sustained out of the north with gusts to 40. Come fish it sometime.
Come fish Galveston Bay down in Texas and then we can talk...Things appear differently to the eye when you're low in the water in a bass boat. I've had to outrun 10-12ft. waves pushed up in the shipping lane in Galveston Bay. Regularly enduring 5-6ft. seas crossing the Bay. Those are not 5-6ft.
@@NytronX Spot on, thank you for the clarification 👍🏼
That vexus took them waves like a champ.
Yessir!
everything in Texas is big
Have had my AVX1980 out in unexpected 3-4 footers a few times and I can tell you, its not fun, but these boats handle it as well as a bass boat can handle chop like that. They really are impressive tin rigs and I cant wait to see what the industry does with Aluminum bass boats in the coming years. For those who have never experienced these Vexus boats. They are not you grandads tin can. They will completely change what you thought an Aluminum boat was.
Now thats the type of waves my 1999 16 ft bass tracker loves
Shit
14 foot Flatbottom goes right through it all the time!
I hit some massive waves in my 15ft flat bottom at an angle and glide smoothly through them everytime
No way were they 6' swells but still bumpin' hard!
yea no wear close
They are barely white caps, not even close to 6ft or 3ft
I have been out on the shoals of Oregon inlet, NC in some dicey contentions, this video looks every bit of a 1 to 2 foot swell
I have seen 6 foot offshore
it is pretty much extreme
when you are in the trough of a wave you look up to your right and see only water towering over you ,,,you look to the left and see only water towering over you ,,no horizon just water taller than you
@@CHIPPOFISHING yep I was guessing 2ft chop maybe a 3 here and there. Every bit of a rough on though. Boat handled it well looking at it sideways 😂🤙
Wonder how the Cougar 203 hybrid handles water like that
The roughest water I have ever been in was back in 1985. I was 15. Me and a friend was in my dad's 15 foot bomber bass boat, don't remember the year probably mid to late 70's. We were on Bull Shoals lake in north central Arkansas. We had crossed the main lake body and we're fishing in a cove. Didn't notice the wind had picked up because we were sheltered, also couldn't see the main body because of location. When we finally decided we needed to head back we seen the white caps in the main channel. We should have stayed put. But we decided to cross. What I remember most was going down in the trough of the wave and not being able to see anything but water. No shoreline no trees, nothing but water until we got to the crest of the next wave. Needles the say life jackets were on tight that day. We jus went slow and steady. Finally made it across. My dad and uncle went out toward the main channel looking for us in another boat. He said he could see us when we were on the crest of the waves and then we would disappear until the next one would bring us back up in sight. Will never forget that day.
Just another windy day on the water.....
Putting that new Vexus to work!! Great vid brother!!👊👊👍
Thanks man, yeah she definitely got put to the test that day! Still made it back in one piece 👍
@@Texasbassanglerpro Oh yeah bro you did good! Looked like you had some nice fish too!!
Gotta love that Oklahoma wind!
4 footers max, which is still rough, that boat handled it impressively.
6 footers would be 2-3 ft over your head in a bass boat. They may have been 3 footers. Maybe. But still not fun to run in.
I’ve been on 6 footer on Lake Michigan and those waves look like a ripple😂
I just did Eufaula Lake yesterday and it was the same thing. Going back to the ramp was a miserable ride.
Getcha a Champion next time!!🌊🚤💪
I believe that would be a Charger now. But for sure Champion or Ranger are the best in big water!
@@TRAVISM3 not in the great lakes.... bass boats cant handle it lets be proper
Look like some good 2-3 footers maybe the freak 4.
Great stuff Luv me some BFL action
Man I liked the video. Don't matter what the exact footage is of the waves. That's still big waves for an alluminum. I've been in similar stuff in a tracker and it got sketchy. Fill me in on the ride tho. I'm looking at buying a 1980. Thanks ahead of time. 💪
Thanks man, I appreciate it. It's definitely a nice boat, and a nice smooth ride other than when it's rough out there. But I guarantee you nobody is having a smooth day when it's like that and overall it handled really well. The only thing I've noticed about this boat is that it doesn't turn in reverse very well at all. So in a tournament setting when you're all packed in waiting to take off, I have to use my trolling motor to maneuver around. Not a huge deal just something you adapt to. There's also tons of storage space too, which I really like. Good luck to you if you end up getting one!
@@Texasbassanglerpro I HATE the spin in reverse. Only thing I've found that helps is trimming it way up and short bursts of the throttle.
You don’t want to fish Erie if those waves bother you and if you were in 6 footers your boat would disappear in between waves and you wouldn’t be throttled into them the way you were or you would fill the boat
I was about to make an Erie comment. Little chop like to see how they panic in 4’ on Erie
I have the same boat, glad to see that Etec brought you home safe!
How do you like yours? Everyone was asking how she handled the water on the way back that day, but I honestly think we probably did just about as good as anybody else. No one had a smooth ride out there.
@@Texasbassanglerpro I really love the ride and it shines more the rougher the water! And that's hardly ever been said for an aluminum!
To me this is what sells boats. We all know they can go fast but can they take a beating...
Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma is a pretty big lake. I almost got a Vexus.. I ended up with a 2019 Nitro Z21 instead.
The big downside to aluminum rigs is they weigh less and you get bounced around more. The good part about aluminum setups they do better on fuel. Always a trade off. Awesome video!!
Thanks man! Appreciate it! Yeah Eufaula is a huge lake. I'm happy with the Vexus so far, it gets up nice and shallow and does better on fuel no doubt. I considered a Nitro, but couldn't pass this one up.
Trim your motor down
@@davidivey130 I’m glad someone else noticed that too….
I’ll never understand why people order their boats and no dual console. Out of all the features my avx 20 has, that was the best thing I did for my co angler gotta have something to hang to
F the co angler… Eats up waaaayvto much room..
Looks like a weekday on Lake of the Ozarks.
A 6 foot swell is 12 feet from the crest to the trough.
I've been in some wicked water on lake Ontario, gotten wet many times. 6-8 footers are the real deal and not easily managed. It's getts downright scary and dangerous. Can really get into trouble in anything over 4-5 if you're not experienced and very careful.
Well put! (agreed)
Dang boys, that's a typical day up north here, by no means are those 6 footers. Y'all need to come up to Lake Ontario or Lake Champlain where real 6 footers live, lol.
Hahaha just a typical day on Eufaula. I live on this lake and its like this more often than not.
Try being on lake mead with 35mph wind
That was some rough water 😨😨
Ahh welcome to oklahoma, the original windy state. We have 20+ mph winds during the night and 30+ during the day! Im about ready to buy a new fishing boat and thinking hard about a multi species boat to maybe help with the waves, try to take it easy on my poor spine! LOL
Well that's answer my question how the nexus handles big water. 👍🏻
We made it back in one piece, so I'd say it handled it ok lol. Thanks for watching.
Not good if it can’t handle 1 or 2 foot chop
6ft swells? those were maybe 1 ft with occasional 2. u want 6 footers come to lake erie
I fished as a Co Angler in this tournament and it was some of the roughest water I have ever been on.
It was some of the roughest I've ever been on too. The camera isn't doing it justice, actually got lucky it didn't completely fall off the mount. But if you were there, you know. How did y'all do in that tournament?
Texas Bass Angler ended up taking 4th on the co angled side!
@@jakehess35 that's awesome man! Congrats 👊
You almost need 2 boats- a bass boat for most days......and an 18' deep-v like we use up here in Minnesota for waves like that- like waist deep with spray guards, etc. I do a lot of walleye fishing in my 16' deep-v......and I've crossed in waves like that with my 50 horse tiller......it's pretty scary. All you can do is hang on and work with the waves as you cross and try not to do anything crazy or sudden.
Do you still have this boat and still
Like it?
6 footers lol I fish Lake Michigan and sturgeon bay Erie when you’re in 6 footers trim it up and slow down those were 3’ max btw
If waves were big how come didn't slow down your speed?
You only ended with 2 keepers? Your co had 5? That's some bad luck on size for you. Keep grinding bro!
Trimmed up to much. Gotta trim down in that big stuff.
I currently have a Ranger Rt188 and love the way it fishes but I always said my next boat would be a glass. But after checking out the Vexus 1980 I’m now strongly leaning towards the Vexus after checking one out in person. I’ll still be able to fish shallow but also have a ride that’s close to a glass. At least that’s what I’ve been told. What’s are your thoughts on the ride compared to a glass the same size?
Get one. You'll never regret it. I love my 1880.
Brother I’m not trying to hate on you, I swear I’m not... Yeah it was rough but bro.. That boat rides terrible.. I’d be embarrassed to even put that on here... That thing bellyflopped all the way back lol.. I can’t believe you didn’t crack the gas tank or something.. Seriously.. And the Ranger Rt 188 guy, if that makes you want a vexus you have lost your fck n mine.. lol... I’ve got a friend that has one also.. Slow as pond water too .. 54 mph.. That’s definitely not gona cut the mustard lol... My Phoenix would literally swallow that thing when I came bye you.. Then when you finally got on some smooth water and you trimmed it out and hit 54 maybe 55mph.. I’ve rode in one so don’t even try to say it’s much faster then that either... My 920pro would blow your hat off when it came bye.. 79.5mph loaded.. HE GONE
@@toddspindler6059 It's more about the angle that he drove those waves and keeping that front end up so it cuts with the haul.
Yeah most anglers that spend any amount of time worth mentioning on the water wouldn't want a dual console if you gave them one. Im one of those anglers. The down side of a passenger console just outweighs the benefits. So with a dual console the passenger gets less wind in the face, a little glove box, and maybe a grab bar to hold on to if need be. Thats it. So what are the downsides? Well you just added more weight to the boat. You rendered precious deck space on a bass boat unusable. You made it more difficult to make those quick transition between front deck, cockpit, and aft deck. You can no longer use that space as a seat to rig rods. You spend a lot more time fishing and rigging your gear than you do making high speed runs. So reducing the workability of my deck to limit the wind in the passengers face for a few minute run is just not worth it. You enjoy your dual console though
@@diversify210 cool. you dont have a wife that goes to the lake with you. Nothing wrong with a DC.
I fished in that tournament also as a co-angler in a Ranger, and we got beat up also. That was a rough a## day!!
You need to fish Lake Erie 🤣🤣🤣
That wasn’t but a average day at Lake of the Ozarks
Should’ve got a glass boat for open water like that, that tin can ain’t cut out for it, it’ll beat the snot out ya
2075 Lund Pro-V Bass would cut through these waves like butta
Go to the ocean and fish and then you'll know what 6 footers really are.
Its much different in a bass boat buddy
I could’ve been going 40 mph in my Bass Tracker !!
Ummm no you couldn’t have😂 those were 3 and 4 footers and a boat under 1500 pounds would have been flying going over 25
Lol, who of us HASN'T pushed it a little too much fishing in a sheltered cove or backwater KNOWING the main lake is screwed? And no, that's not a jet engine you've been listening to for the last hour... it's the wind and the "rollers" breaking on the main lake.
That’s Bass fisherman measurements!
looks like a wet ride
dont you know youre supposed to hold that dang camera straight and manage those waves at the same time? LOL
Good video! Where did you get your boat?
vexus is made by former engineers working for ranger branched off into their own company... some boats are cheaper then the bigger brands but still yet proven on a circuit
I got mine from a private seller in MO, but you can find them at quite a few dealers now depending on where you're located.
@@joshualee6765 no one of these boats are run on tour.. Not a single one.. These aluminum models need to be recalled because of hull splitting issues. 4 out of 5 at 12 months old split.. Ask me how I know 🥴 junk
Glass boats are nice, but show stress cracks very quick.. Doesn’t compromise the integrity of the hull just looks bad for a 90k boat to do that after a few months..
I have a grandpa in Arkansas that knows the owners of vexurs pretty well I have a dream to get one some day
That aluminum Vexus would worry me on my home lake. Deep and runs north - south. No funny on those windy summer days trying to get back to the ramp.
Let me guess lake ray hubbard bc thats the same on hubbard and it suckssssss
@@Bassin_withaustin No but I used to live on that lake and it's no fun on a windy day for sure.
Maybe 3 footers max. That's like a normal day with wind fishing lake winnebago for walleyes.
Totally agree. Looked like good trolling chop on bago. Rough, go slow but often active fish coming in the boat!
I have never damage in my lower back, I was thinking about getting an AVX, but I don't think my back could handle an aluminum boat much less a fiberglass.
Consider getting a catamaran, deep round tunnel.
lol come to lake erie
If you think those are 6ft you’ve never truly experienced a 6 foot wave sorry…those are maybe 3’s at best
seen higher white caps on the main channel of table rock... maybe u should have adjusted ur jackplate on the motor... goodness....
My home lake.... Bro, It’s simple inexperience on your part... That’s not a bad thing it’s how you learn bud....4lbs 🤦🏻♂️..... jk.. trim that motor all the way down, ALL THE WAY then let the design of the boat work.... I fished out of a guys 1890 yesterday... The ride was awesome.... On the other hand, don’t see how it couldn’t because loaded top speed was 40mph at best.. Boat weights 2000 pounds dry with no motor, so at that slow it’s got to ride good🤷♂️
Definitely not 6ft swells. That is nothing like the Great Lakes
Those wasn’t even near 2 foot waves sometimes ppl like to exaggerate a whole lot
I was there
I live on this lake and it still might be one of my least favorite lakes
Bad camera angle but that is some big water you just can't tell. I've done this same run and the waves hit from all angles. 25 mph wind on that lake will sink inexperienced drivers.
Go to lake st clare on an windy day with a east wind
Lol, camera never does the situation justice, I know from experience!
Yessir!! That's exactly right! But you can't tell anybody that unless they actually know from experience, so I don't bother. It's incredible how the camera can make a situation look calm. Lol.
Trust me, when you're in actual 6fters, the camera does it justice. See this video for actual 6fters: ruclips.net/video/wQXWEfTYiXk/видео.htmlm0s
Pretty impressive for an aluminum boat.
its a hybrid.. of fiberglass and aluminum
@@joshualee6765 The hull is aluminum. Period.
You need a Lund brother, bust those waves like a freighter. Vexus are nice, but they are no rough water boat by any means.
Lol it was definitely rough going that day.
Lund 2075 Pro-V Bass would do the trick.
Tilt the camera a little more so I can fall for the thumbnail even better!
THIS!!!
Lol
yeah, absolute clickbait and BS title. No way they were 6 ft swells. Total BS
Definitely wasn’t any 6footers. Easy to over estimate when on the water. Come to Lake Huron and I’ll show you some 6 footers.
"6 footer" LMAO, You'd sh#t you pants in a bass boat..
If those are six footers, than your boat is 35 feet long.
I think its funny when the fresh water guys say 6 footers they may be 2 footers with some 3's 6 footers would be 12 foot from bottom to top and wouldn't be good for that 20 ft bassboat
What model Vexus is that?
It's the AVX1980
I think you meant 6 inch swells lol. Come out in the saltwater and we’ll show you 6 foot swells!
my phoenix eats waves for breakfast ,but that was rough
Kevin Will on the Great Lakes here but that wasn’t THAT bad . Definitely not ideal but not terrible.
Dont bother coming to lake erie. they are not even capping consistently . trim it down and increase your speed , trim it down bit. get on top dont ride the troughs. Drive that boat dude!
ive seen Wheeler/Wilson on 6' waves. those were not 6".
OK we get it there not six ft no one cares
dude.....your camera
Didn’t even have to stow your rods, left them on deck. Not that rough if you can do that. Trade that tin boat in for a Phoenix if you want a better rough water ride.
Let me get my 22 ft bay boat out there I’ll give it all it wants
Dude that’s a wet boat
6 foot swells??? 16 inch swells.
And thats why you buy a deep v
that's not 6 feet. two at best.
2-3fters lmao
Brett Beilke not a 3 in sight
how bad was it on your back? been looking at vexus but the 2080
It's actually not bad at all. It rides really comfortable, the seats are great. And if you're looking at the 2080 your ride will probably be even smoother than that. That day in the video was pretty rough, but in general you'll be impressed with the comfort and the space on that 2080, I think. Good luck !
The chairs are air cushioning.
Child's play boys
Say what you want - but I will hide in a cove if the main lake is white capping. Weigh-in and money be damed, my life and co-angler’s life is worth a whole lot more.
Not a 6 ft swell to be seen
6’ swell. No.
6ft swells?! LOL! Those literally were like 1-1.5ft waves at best, with maybe an occasional 2fter. We don't even call those waves in Minnesota, that is calm water. Here's an example of 6fters (see 3min mark): ruclips.net/video/wQXWEfTYiXk/видео.html
What is it with southerners always adding like 4ft to the actual wave estimate? Reminds me of another measurement...
6 foot my ass
Easy 4 maybe 5 footers that didn’t look fun
I'd have stayed at the other side too. Too rough for me.
Yeah, hopefully we won't have many more days like that. It was rougher than I expected.
That can't be good for a boat.can it
Lol go to clearlake when the winds blowing 20 thru the narrows!
Didn’t seem that rough. Been through the clear lake narrows and half way through I wondered why I attempted the trip. Big big rollers
Oh I don't doubt clear lake gets pretty nasty. I've heard many people say that. Thanks for watching the video.
Got me to click on the bait a true fisherman never stops fishing I guess. 2ft at the most lol, so dramatic
