"Unlike your posture right now."
As someone who decided to watch this series while playing cards on the floor, this absolutely applies to me.
16:52 I think you're totally right about this. As a kid, I didn't even think of 2-6 as an autoscroller. Most autoscrollers are just "here's a level, but your movement is arbitrarily restricted". But this is more like "react to the obstacles as they come to you".
Isn't this also like the lift ride levels that stop when a certain amount of things are on it from NSMBWII AND U?
I think it also helps that you can't get "ahead" or the level by running against the right wall waiting for the level to scroll faster like ground-based autoscrollers
This level was also so hard when I was playing it as a kid?? I remember spending, like, hours trying to get past it, but I don’t think I ever got bored. It was hella good.
the underwater ones on the other hand...
I'm loving these "Zikedown" in-depth analyses.
Prove it
@@Vulnresati Why, Why must Tim here prove his enjoyment of this amazing series made by zoomzike, a quality RUclipsr, although I don’t doubt that you already got that last part.
@@jackwastakenx2 I feel Tim must take part in some sort of test or game that can be fatal to the body to prove whether or not they actually like Zikedown. If they decline then my senses of falsehood dwelling within their statements would be all but confirmed
Me too!
10:58 ZoomZike: "We've got some enemies that we have to avoid"
Also ZoomZike: *Casually runs into the koopa*
21:41 this is a mini celling to give the player more space. That’s it. To make the jump over the cannon more possible if you’re big
6:01 Hey good to know that IL MP6 is not dead
8:06 I also appreciate how the flag at the end becomes a puzzle/challenge in itself sometimes. Even if the way to reach the top isn't immediately in front of you, there's often a way to do it if you look around.
Pretty weird there was a time when this world layout was fresh.
One could even say, "back when it was New."
As far back as Super Mario Bros. 3!
@@retro3188 well, unlike the NSMB formula, mario 3 actually had multiple grassy plain worlds, just with some variation, like giant land.
@@dakingofyeet4541 I was talking about what they used for World 2.
Mario party 6 identifying luck confirmed?! Bless u zoomzike 😭
gotta love the 2-6 cork
literally serves no other purpose
6:00 IS MARIO PARTY 6 FINALLY COMING??? I'm so excited I've rewatched ALL of your Mario Party videos several times over!!!
Honestly it’s the main Playlist I sleep to, I’ve been sleeping to it for months…
ITS HERE!
It came!
At the 6 minute mark no less
1:00 I feel personally attacked
The Mario Party 6 Cinematic Universe is looking better than ever. Great vid as always!
Yeeeaaah! I loved W1's Zikedown so I'm really excited for this! I love these in-depth analyses.
Also... "Hmm" block. Love it.
1:00 how did you know I was leaning forward ravenously scarfing a pancake?!
6:00 so that's what, 2 zikes teleporting into the MP6 vid now? Now we have to check the continuity for 2 ;)
ZikeyZoom secretly got another Wacky Watch
6:00
Are you breaking the fabric of reality with Mario Party 6 again, ZoomZike?
Ah back when Nintendo knew the meaning of the word "New."
Great analysis dude.
Another little thing I like from 2-3 is that at 7:17 if you fall through the final flipper on the bottom right and stand still it stays open, meaning you can jump back up if you fell through when trying to get Star Coin (like I have done on accident) and also showing that they are opened upon proximity rather contact.
that Sewer level is still my favorite 2D Mario stage it's so unique
This might be my favorite world in the game? The overworld stuff was neat but the spin off levels were crazy creative. Like the sewer level or the auto scroller. Also it had a pretty great boss.
NSMB left a strong impression on me as a kid, I love how in depth your coverage is.
I loved your Sonic Adventure analysis videos (A WHOLE LOT!), and I'm so glad you're doing something like them again.
I never liked how people lump this first NSMB game with its many sequels as being unoriginal and boring - it's actually quite a creative game! One of the best 2D Marios, in my opinion. It's hard to beat the classics, but this game was rock solid, and a strong part of my childhood. I really appreciate you going into detail about every little thing in every level - most people take that stuff for granted, you know? But you've brought many little things to my attention that I never would have noticed or known about! Plus, your positive attitude and sincerity is infectious.
Thanks for doing what you do!
The posture check freaked me out. I was expecting like three other comments going "I actually was slouching 😭😭😭"
Dang man you really caught me slouching my back. Thank you for helping me sit up right through partial threats
6:01 is the most terrifying, gut-wrenching pseudo-jumpscare shit I’ve ever seen, and I don’t know why. I should go to bed lol. Good video tho
What a delightful surprise! Gonna listen to this while I draw
For a second I thought this was a breakdown of NSMB2 and I was ready for you to tear into it, guess that’ll have to be shelved for now, BUT YES! The typical desert aka my least favorite world theme, gotta say, at least the music slaps in this one.
It's so great to see someone who actualy analyses the levels in this game in-depth isntead of just bashing everything for being unoriginal just like most fans do
you radiate scottthewoz energy, like i can imagine scott saying these lines
I'm in love with this series, it takes a lot of charisma to make this type of content genuinely entertaining!
I appreciate the MP6 tease. Thanks for that Zoomzike.
Hey Zike big fan of your channel. Wishing you the best with everything :)
I like his channel too! And yours too! 🙂

1:02 Made me laugh, thank you
Thank you for posting this today of all days. My day has been very hard so far and now I can watch this and relax. Thank you so much man!:D

"It look remarkable similar to this minigame in Mario Part-"
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?! THIS IS SPOILERS, GET OUT!!!"
"okay i'm sorry...!"
The spoilers, my GOD THE SPOILERS! I can't wait for it to finally happen.
ZoomZike fully committed to the bit, just in case you haven't seen it yet. (Mario Party 6 video is out.)
So, because of Zike here, I actually did go back to try New SMB again since I felt I hadn't given it a fair chance. In the time it took Zike to make this video, I fully completed the game and had a pretty good time. I still prefer other platformers, but yeah, I was too hard on this game back when I first tried it.
Now that I’m thinking about it, the way the game handles W4 and W7 is genuinely genius. In both 2-Castle and 5-Castle, there is a third star coin that you must have a mini-mushroom to obtain, and while 5-Castle doesn’t provide you with one, 2-Castle has a mini-mushroom mere moments before the third star coin
Sounds like King Crimson saved us from Identifying Luck: Mario Party 6 at 6:06.
You know when some RUclipsr I like goes missing from over a month, I start to get worried. Thankfully whenever they are back, they bring a great video like you did now Zike.
Another great analysis on this fun ln world, the underground pipe level was always my favorite and the theory that its connected to the oasis level is awsome. Keep up the fun work 👌
I remember feeling so achieved when I found my way to the World 2 cannon when I was like six
2-3 was always my favourite level in this game when I was little. I just loved the aesthetic of all the tunnels and loved ground pounding through the manhole covers.
This is probably the only Desert world I like in Mario games
How’bout Dry Dry Land or Lunceon Kingdom…?
3:04 When all the Pokey's really start groovin and schmoovin.
Absolutely love these videos, they're not only interesting but serve as a great analysis on good level design in general. Would love to see more of this!
Loving these vids. New soup one was my first Mario game, first DS game and 2nd game overall I ever owned. Played it countless times....even replayed it on Wii U. So much more creative and fresh than the sequels. Glad to see some quality content on it! Keep it up!
I've been waiting for this, part one was great!
So excited for the next identifying luck video
ZoomZike made a stable time loop both this time and his Mario Party Advance April Fools video to his Mario party 6 video 1-2 years afterwards. Wonderful attention to detail and some of my favorite jokes (aside from when he loses his cool)
As a kid 2-3 was always such a cool level to me it felt like there where so many different secrets and things to find
I only watched your analysis of World 1 yesterday, subscribed because I was looking forward to World 2 onwards and bam the next day here it is!
Thanks for reminding me of my posture
Very glad to see a new video Mr. Zike
I like the parts of stages that require power-ups that the stage does not contain. It makes the game more Metroidvania-like. I like the preparation aspect of finding out and remembering where I can best get the power-ups and where I need them and I like the challenge of then bringing the right power-ups to the right place to use them there.
14:43 The Jr boss fights in W2, W3, W5, and W6 actually have one change from his W1 fight that I've noticed - after the second hit, he will start jumping at you.
As a kid I loved how interconnected World 2 felt. Like you said, the sewer pipe section felt like it made sense considering the water level right next to it. But not only that, it also explains the grass in 2-2. Furthermore, 2-4 establishes that water exists in a complex cave system under the sands, meaning that the pipes likely pump the water from such caves into various other areas. And of course I love the sentient blocks. This is why NSMB1 is the superior new super Mario game.
I have hot new names for these Levels
World 2: Hot Shot Desert
2-1: Pokey Dokie
2-2: Green Mirage
2-3: Sewers Puzzles
2-4: Breathing Terrain
2-Tower: Acroba-Tower
2-5: Sandy Structures
2-6: Yellow View
2-Castle: Spiked Feat Fortress
2-A: Avoid the Water
Here's a pro tip with Lakitus, jumping on him will make his cloud disapear but the fireballs are not the only way to steal his cloud, you can throw Koopa's shell or even Spiny's shell on Lakitus to steal his cloud.
1:02 the way i was shrimpin' when this came up i'm..........
2-3 is the best designed levels i have ever played so much fun
1:01 Damn, you called me out.
This series of videos is helping me realize that there WAS a time when the NSMB series used memorable, clever world design on the same level as SMB3 and SMW.
Also that little bit at the end with the Mini Mushroom? A GENIUS concept.
I would say that the first star coin in 2-3 is placed like it is to teach the player about wall jumps, as not only is there no other way to access it, similar to the last star coin in 1-1, which required ground pounds, but it's in a level full of tight, vertical corridors, which help demonstrate the wall jump's capabilities. In my humble opinion, this level feels like it was "designed" to show off the wall jump, in the same way the opening of 1-2 was "designed" to show off the ground pound, albeit 2-3 shows more restraint in how it demonstrates mario's new moveset.
Oh baby, another ! Z I K E D O W N !
Love hearing how excited our boy Zike gets over level design. Keep up the great content!
Fun Fact: This is ZoomZike‘s 100th Video
Happy Mar11 day!
1:02 ALRIGHT, I'll SIT UP.
Shut up about my posture! Shut up about my posture!!! 😭
Pokies are still my favourite Mario enemy. They're deadly but adorable, and I miss when they used to have a flower on their heads. Its a shame NSMB DS only has them for one level, but that one level makes really good use of them.
2-3 is probably everyone's favourite stage in World 2 though. I love its unique aesthetic and mechanics, and whilst I wish it could return I guess its a good thing it hasn't been overused.
Congratulations Zoomzike for 100 videos on RUclips
It's called an Aquatic ADVERSARY, Zike.
22:33 as a kid I always heard this as “thank you tonight!” Which now that I think about it doesn’t make a lot of sense
6:03 LUCK SHALL BE IDENTIFIED
Edit: LUCK HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED
I'm really loving this series so far!
Ahh!!! This one was just as good. I love how you point out things, and leave us waiting for the explanation. It again reminds me so much of like, a sibling letting you figure stuff out. Also, while I knew the enemies danced to the song I nener knew power ups did too??
i've watched so many videos about these mario games, yet i'm still discovering cool hidden features with your videos, thanks!!
In NSMBU you sink into the quicksand very quickly.
Honestly these videos just make me realize how good NSMBDS' level design is compared to the other NSMB games, like that sewer level is really good and kinda complex yet still well designed and fun, that auto scroller in the sky is so tightly designed, I've never seen anything else like it in any other mario game, let alone a NSMB game, and that castle is really unique and fun. I slept on this game for a long time even though it's probably the first mario game I've ever played (either the first, or the second) because I was always told "it's just a New Super Mario Bros game," but actually watching these videos and playing through the first and second world there's a lot more to this game than what I expected.
These videos have given me a new appreciation for level design.
Oh boy finally a world 2 video
That makes 2 interputions to identifying luck 6 I anticipate greatly
Thanks for the posture check
WTH?! I NEVER realized they hidden place in World 2-🏰! And I thought I knew everything in this game! Clearly not!
Good video Zoom of the Zike!
Great observation at the end! Honestly I don't know why I didn't realize that those dotted lines from world two to four and from World 5 to 7 indicated those tiny mushroom paths I mean I knew about the tiny mushroom secret to get to world four and to get to world 7, but I just never realized that they intentionally put those dotted lines on the bottom screen I think it is to indicate that
earned my sub
Fun fact 2-4 is the only level where Hammer Bros appear in not counting the overworld encounters.
"Definite game over," huh? Bold of you to assume I'm on my last life.
i was literally in bad posture by slouching, and when you mentioned my posture i was like: 👀
Oh my god I just sat down to eat what a timing my dude
Best NSMB ever.
Just realised I forgot to type a second comment after actually watching the video (I just click like before watching so I don't forget lmao), I don't think you can really top the Crazy Gadget vid in terms of level design analysis but it's still very nice listening to all that and your hype when explaining small details always gets me
I vividly remember 2-6 like crazy. What a fun level
Zikes! It’s Zoom!
Don't you talk to me about my posture right now, Zike! I woke up with a pinched nerve in my neck and it hurts like hell!
i'm sure i already said, but we had this game when it came out, plus the poster it came with. i never knew why, but the sewer was always my favorite to play through. i'd play that stage over and over lol
plus world 5 castle but that's spoilers shhhh
The pump of the autoscroller level is one of my best memory, even if I love all the original mechanic of this mario
2-3 is my favorite level in the game
This is wild
What I loved about NSMB were the unique bosses at the end of each world, unlike the following titles with their overused koopalings formula.
