I cant believe that no one seems to know this? I told my doctor about the study which I had found somewhere, and she blew me off. My condition has gone from bad to worse following the advice of my doctor and the sports medicine clinic she referred me to, as well as the footwear store I was referred to. Thank you so much.
Doctors don’t know about movement and consumer greed over sports shoes - no money in hard wearing boots made for walking……gyms and all that rubbish to make money out of office workers - quit your job and save money. Have a healthier life
I know, right!?! When I told a few Ortho docs about this, they just throw back at me all of the traditional/conservative PF treatments that continued to fail me over the course of NINE YEARS!! I’m so thankful for healthcare professionals that actually evolve in their practices…like Dr. Gabe Mirkin, founder of the RICE protocol in 1978. He basically came back out in 2015 to recant some of it because of the research that had come out since ‘78 about icing, especially, and inhibiting the healing inflammatory process our bodies go through.
My podiatrist laughed at me when I told him about the Dr. Harvey Lemont study. And he also was condescending and dismissive to me when I asked about PRP injection for my PF that has been going on for 9 years with no relief after every conservative, nonsurgical treatment. He told me to keep doing RICE and stretching because there “wasn’t any literature for PRP and PF”. I sought a second opinion from a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation doctor. I got my PRP injection three days ago and I already have relief from the pain I had from a TORN PF at the calcaneal insertion of the central band. I also use the Correct Toes because I stand for 12+ hours/day when at work. I switched to zero drop shoes, specifically Altra, Flux Footwear, and Topo. I am doing PT to strengthen my intrinsic foot muscles and calves. I found Dr. Ray through Dr. Angela Walk - The Plantar Fasciitis Doc. I love watching the evolution of this disorder and its pathology/treatments.

2 weeks in with toe spreader and zero drop shoes called minimalist shoes and stretching in opposite direction my 6 months of pain of 8 out of 10 is down to 3....foot feels lot stronger too. This is real ....thanks so much
@@joesielskisr4911 Check out shoe brands like Lems or Xero. They idea behind minimalist shoes is that modern shoes are often counter-productive with all the features they often (with problematic designs elevated heals in most shoes, not just womens, toe spring or lifting up your toes, tapered or cramped toe box). Minimalist shoes eliminate all these and let your foot be the way God designed instead of contorting it.
@@dinomonzon1529I think by pressing down on your toes, as opposed to stretching towards you. Look up Dr. Berg's video on RUclips about how to correct or treat plantar fasciitis. He is in line with what this video says.
I spent 5yrs going to doctors in Tacoma and Seattle WA, spending thousands and no results. I have just started this, only by thinking outside the box to change things up. So far the results are way better than what Ive paid for.
I watched the video, but it doesn't appear you can do this on your own, there needs to be a foot doctor involved, some kind of therapy and guidance?? I need to start something ASAP. How are you doing with what you started? And did you see a professional?
I'm amazed! This makes SO much sense and the visual is proving this is EXACTLY what I've been painfully suffering from for TWO years. You name it, I've tried it, and nothing has worked. Incredibly - when I wear toe spacers, the pain in my inner arch is practically gone and I see tiny muscle flutters as you mention can happen in the early stages of healing. This tells me this is exactly what my foot needs. Can you tell me about how long it could take to see permanent relief? I've also purchased some Xero running shoes. The extra width in the toe box feels like heaven! At 34 with 3 kids, I just want to be active again without pain, and stop worrying what will set my pain off. Thanks so much for this video - you have no idea how helpful it is!
I have suffered with plantar "faciitis" for the past 8 months. I have done all the traditional treatments, cortizone, night splints, orthotics, stretching, anti inflamatory pills and creams, Graston technique therapy, massage. Nothing worked. I continued to have pain in my heel every day. After only one week of doing your stretches my heel is beginning to feel much better. I purchased the correct toes and proper athletic shoes and have started walking on my treadmill again. Thank you so very much!
Northwest Foot & Ankle I applied your techniques just last night ....understanding how to correct the alinement of muscle & ligaments is worth it’s weight in gold.....
This physician is GENIUS! I have a friend who is a physical therapist and about 10 years ago I suffered from plantar fasciitis she told me the exact same thing to move the great toe into abduction and to do isotonic stretches with my all of my toes. It was the exact same thing that he has shown! My plantar fasciitis has been resolved for some.time now but my Mom is now suffering. I tell people all the time that that's what works for me .So I think it's such an incredible solution! Congratulations! I'm forwarding this to all my plantar fasciitis sufferers. thanks Dr. Be blessed!
Thank God for Dr. Ray McClanahan, is all I can say. Two weeks ago, after a barefoot-style half marathon and an 18-mile run a few days later just out of joy, I've been experiencing what appears to be low-grade posterior tibial tendinitis in one foot. I'm 52 and undertrained so I should be more careful ... but after a week of studying online cures, what a relief to hear the clarity here! I believe I will figure out the imbalance and get even stronger because of it. How sad that the profession is mainly blind to the effect of shoes. Go Dr. Ray!
Thanks for your support, Mark! It's eye-opening to know that conventional footwear can negatively affect foot health, and as you mentioned, we can thankfully figure out how to cause correct and get to feeling better. Glad that you're finding some clarity, and props to you for doing a barefoot half-marathon!
Aaah yes stretching toes the opposite way really helps.. I had plantar fasciitis for 8 months.. I was on my feet all day it was literally painful I would be in tears by the end of the day... until I decided to stretch my feet and massage them myself every day twice a day... 5 months long it took for my feet to return to normal.. even now after a long day I still get home and restretch and massage my feet! It really does help.. even massaging my calf muscles helped!!
I followed these recommendation, using a single toe spreader between my big toe and next toe, and a 2” wide Kinesiology tape from just below my toes to my heal with about 80% pull. The pain started improving in days and in 3 weeks I was pain free. I have keep using the toe spacer, Povihome Toe Spacer. I spent about $30 on amazon, and no Dr fees...
@Ron Packwood Would you mind sharing what toe spread you got and the taping spots of your kinesiology tape? I've had chronic plantar fascitis for like 3-4 years and maybe I was wrong in my "inflammation" approach the whole time. Want to try this since it makes alot of sense
Andy Wu Povihome 10 Pack Toe Spacers Separators, Bunion Corrector Gel Orthotics (Updated Soft Version) for Bunion, Overlapping Toes - L Size www.amazon.com/dp/B0734KRL5N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_NXtBFbBZW355W Here is the spacers. I’m not able to post a picture, but I just take one piece of tape from the ball of my foot to my heal with about 80% pull in the medal.
This video is the best explanation of plantar fasciitis that I’ve ever seen!!! I’ve been using toe spacers for over 2 yrs now and they’ve made such a big difference in pain, mobility, and balance. A lot of the spacers I’ve come across don’t hold up very long though. Then I found some toe spacers called “Yoga Toes” on Amazon and they’re still like new and I’ve had them for two years. They’re definitely worth the money!
We do our best in educating those on important and serious topics like Plantar Fasciosis because so many deal with it. Thank you for the kind sentiment and let us know if you have any questions for us throughout your foot health journey. We also suggest checking out Correct Toes.
Great informative video. I've recently been suffering from heal pain, metatarsal pain and arch pain. I've been nothing short of disappointed by the care I received from my podiatrist. I wish I could find a doctor like yourself to help me.
I have plantar fasciitis for almost 5 months on my right foot. I have tried everything. Physiotherapy, orthotics, icing, warming, stretches, dynamic stretches, running, strengthening etc. A lot of expenses to fix it, but still struggling. The pain from 0 (no pain) to 10 (extreme pain), has gradually decreased to almost 1.5 to 2, from 8 or 9 that used to be. But still i can't play football or run without the feeling of pain. I watched your youtube channel with much attention the last few days and i ordered the Correct Toe. I wish it'll work for me. I'll let you know asap. I have started some toe exercising you reccomend, for almost 4-5 days and i see some improvement, especially when i wake up in the morning and make the first step of the day. Thank you for all the great job you make. I couldn't believe the importance of the right walking and running. No one has ever told me the importance of selecting the right shoe. And what people mean by saying "right shoe" ? The right shoe is not the beautifull shoe, but it's the shoe that not deforming the shape of our feet. How misguided we are. But unfortunatelly we must come to a level of pain to search and find the truth. But doesn't this apply to all the aspects of life?
Thanks for checking out the channel. I'm glad that it has been helpful so far. We wish you good luck with your transition--please do let us know if it works. If you're having any difficulties at all, feel free to reach out to our office at 503-243-2699 and we'd love to help!
THANK YOU! I had plantar fasciitis from late June to October of this year. I was doing the conventional icing, stretching, etc. and was getting better, but very very gradually. THEN I saw your vid here. I stretched my toes out, used a hot foot soak, went barefoot when I could. In a FEW DAYS it virtually went away. I'm sure full recovery will take time, but i can't thank you enough! I can work on my feet for hours with no pain. God bless!
Appreciate Video! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you researched - Mackorny Feet Ahead Blueprint (should be on google have a look)? It is an awesome exclusive product for Relieving foot pain without the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cousin after a lifetime of fighting got cool results with it.
I picked up a pair of toe spacers. Went for a run. Little pain in the heel. Wow! Soaking feet in hot water twice a day, stretching toes and using toe spacers. My PF is 95% gone. Thank You!
Wow! Thanks Doc. I have had bunionectomies in both feet and now PF and AT. BUT...'osis' vs 'itis' is a game-changer. Thank you. Will share your video with my physical therapist!
I developed this problem last year after a long trekking trip. As the pain was getting unbearable, I then bought a pair of Birkenstock sandals thinking that it will provide some arch support at least and ease the pain. Turned out that I forgot I had the pain and it healed quite quickly within a few weeks or months.
03:24 min. mark. This layman recalls the "My feet are killing me!" comment. In this case, the person's foot IS doing that very thing. Very helpful explanation. Still working on my condition, with flare ups, after 5 weeks of at-home therapy, including a "night sock!" Many thanks!
I watched this video and bought some toe spacers and did the stretch and rubs. That was a year ago. It worked brilliantly! The painful lump I had is gone and my feet and body feel so much better. I make sure to continue to practice this. The only thing that worked. You and your team are geniuses! This is amazing.
Interesting vid - I am an older runner who developed planters in the last week with all the pain as described. I do the various exercises as described usually but havent seen this type of level of info before
This is the most informative video I've seen...fantastic! I've been suffering from heel pain for a couple of months and have tried various treatments, including shockwave therapy.
Glad to hear you found it helpful Aaron! Feel free to check out www.correcttoes.com/foot-help/foot-conditions-and-problems/plantar-fasciosis/ for more info!
Wow I've never heard of it explained like that before. It makes so much sense. I definitely agree that it is a problem of circulation as I found that when I started sleeping on the floor it gave my body better circulation at night and it helped my PF a lot.
Great video content! Apologies for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - Taparton Walking Foot Takeover (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a great exclusive product for Getting Rid of Plantar Fasciitis minus the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my m8 after a lifetime of fighting got astronomical success with it.
I'm excited to see this, Dr. Eric Berg, another RUclips sensation agrees and also recommended the stretches, but your understanding goes far beyond to mastery. please make more videos to spread this knowledge.
Informative video, makes a lot of sense, thanks. But I do have a question. Now that you have established that PF is a matter of dead tissue - how is recovery a likely outcome without removal of excessive matter by surgery? To put it differnently: can dead tissue find it´s way out once it´s there, only by the means described in the video and if so how does this transformation work. One would think that hard matter has do be broken down and transformed somehow, before it is "disposable" - in lack of better understanding?
OMG!!!!! Thank you! Thank You soooo much. I'm an athletic trainer and massage therapist so for my right heel pain: I've done stretching in dorsiflexion, plantar flexion, golfball, reflexology shoes, heat, ice Advil , heel lifts. I' m going to try the great toe stretches and exercises and try the metatarsal pads. I'm in nursing school now so this will help on the long days I have to be on my feet for clinicals!! God Bless You all!!
So glad to hear that the video was helpful! It sounds like you're on the right track. Here's hoping you're able to eliminate that heel pain and have stronger, healthier feet in no time!
This explanation makes so much sense! I wear pointy toe heels to work 5 days a week. But, what about when my pain is on the outer side of heel. Same thing, feel it the most when I've just gotten out of bed or when I first begin running but goes away once it's warmed up.
Probably an analogous thing happening, but due to the pinky toe being forced in and up (hence people often get bunionettes A.K.A. Tailor's bunion. You can get barefoot friendly dress/professional shoes these days, which don't have toe spring, are zero drop and don't taper at the front in a way that deforms the toes. Check out Anya's barefoot shoe finder (comes up on google) to find something that suits you
Can you give a timeframe of how soon this might work? I'm desperate. In intense pain for 4 months - not relief doing any of the other things that you mention do not work. Thanks.
Thanks for this video, you really provided insight to what may be wrong with my heals. I've been hurting for 10mths, going to my 3rd DR next week. I've been told its just plantar fasciitis, given meds and still hurting. Hopefully I will get he right treatment this time. Thanks again
I was about to invest in some Tread Labs arch support but after looking at this video I will definitely get some toe spacers. Thanks for the informative video.
I had purchase some toe spacers awhile ago for no reason except I knew my big toes were pointing inward from 20 years of ballet point shoes and my feet looked just like a they were in a point shoes all the time and thinking that's not good at all so I bought these toe spacers, now I'm motivated to use them. I quit bc it hurt and lots of cramps but I'll just keep at it and improve my electrolytes and VITAMIN E. It was there a LONG time so it's going to take time to change. Thanks for all your great info here. Another doctor said dont flex and stretch, POINT and stretch and that makes sense. Hopefully I can get rid of this PF, I'm a trainer and cant afford to stop too much.
Hi Ann, were the toe spacers you purchased Correct Toes? Please send us an email to: Info@correcttoes.com. We would also like to recommend a remote consultation with our Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Oltman. He works here at the clinic, believes in natural healing and does many, many remote consultations. Call us to schedule an appointment 503-243-2699. More information is available on our website: www.nwfootankle.com/.
Wear wide toe box shoes and boots. Podiatrist said: "I can't stress the importance of stretching as well as wearing wide toe box shoes. No heels, no dress heels....unless they have a wide toe box, so not to push your big toe sideways. I did find great wide toe box hiking shoes. I hike all over the white mountains in NH with no problems.
Hi doctor mandell u are wonderful u are doing a good gob for people to feel good keep it up and thank u very much i look at all your video and thank you
Ellie Lacrosse It's definitely different than conventional thoughts/teachings. We hope this info helps with your reflexology routines. Let us know how it goes!
Ellie Lacrosse Excellent video content! Forgive me for chiming in, I would love your opinion. Have you researched - Mackorny Feet Ahead Blueprint (google it)? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my buddy said ta ta to the annoying Plantar Fasciitis issue with it.
Dear Dr McClanahan - I love your correct toes product - it has alleviated my bunion pain completely. Thank you a million times over for saving me from that surgery. I wish you were on my side of the country! I hope you can help me better understand the plantar faciosis as a circulatory issue resulting in dead tissue and heel pain: If the abductor hallusis muscle is out of balance with the adductor hallusis and is cutting off blood supply to the medial heel, why doesn't sleep restore the blood flow? The foot is out of shoes and no longer constricting the muscle, so it would "seem" that this would be the time of least pain for the plantar fasciitis, but often morning is when the worst pain is. Will the abductor continue to constrict the medial heel during sleep until the adductor length is restored? Also, are you saying the dead tissue is what is causing the pain? Or that the circulatory issue of "trapped blood" in the medial heel is what is causing the pain? Thanks very much for your help. Meg
Thank you very much. This corresponds with other up and coming ideology of foot pain, however, you explained it so nice, that now I actually understand better. Kind regards to you. Kim, Australia
Doctor Eric Berg says to point toes down in a stretch too. Almost every other doctor says stretch toes up. I will give this a go and let my toes spread out.
Thank you very much Dr. Ray. I have been diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis and have had little relief in the left foot with the cortisone shots and the night splints. The right foot was not as bad, and have had good results with that. I also was told I was developing bunions. Morton's toe runs in my family and on my left foot the toe is quite a bit longer than the big toe, and the right is slightly longer. My foot doctor says this has nothing to do with my foot pain, but everything I am reading states otherwise. I am 70 years old, have always been active but this is slowing me down. Your video really has me thinking trying your method and maybe changing doctors! Appreciate your information!
I switched to strictly bare foot maybe 1 year ago, and they caused so much pain, leading to plantar fascitis. I am currently trying acupuncture and seeing a chiropractor, which helps. Do you have any theories as to why going strictly barefoot would cause plantar fascitis?
The pain you are describing is common when people transition too quickly from shoes with excess cushion, arch support, heel elevation, and rigid toe spring to natural and barefoot shoes. After (usually) many years in unhealthy shoes, sometimes it takes a little while to adjust to a more barefoot style that demands more from your feet. Conventional shoes are comfortable, but weaken and atrophy the feet. Minimalist shoes challenge your feet to be strong and functional. When this change occurs too quickly, pain can result. Make sure to transition slowly and do other kinds of foot exercises and natural foot care to help support your journey!
I developed my plantar fasciitis symptoms progressively AFTER switching to minimalist shoes and using toe separators. Now, my feet are stronger, I have an arch for the first time in my life and I know my lower body has developed nicely because of these interventions. By no means am I saying I want to go back to foot coffins, but the bottoms of my feet hurt in a pattern c/w plantar fasciitis. Any recommendations?
That is frustrating because it sounds like you are doing all the right things! If you are an active person it might be as simple as a couple days of rest or doing some different exercises that are less taxing on the feet and lower leg (swimming, biking, rowing, weight lifting, etc.). Have you tried metatarsal pads (www.correcttoes.com/shop/accessories/metatarsal-pads.html ), toe extensor stretches (ruclips.net/video/h2kaEOd3GcI/видео.html ), or eccentric calf exercises? Maybe consider massage or working your foot with a lacrosse ball (www.correcttoes.com/shop/accessories/lacrosse-ball.html ) or foam roller. You could also try a capsaicin-based cream (like Sombra: www.correcttoes.com/shop/personal-care/sombra-warm-therapy-white.html ) or soaks in a warm Epsom salt foot bath.
Hi there, I’m suffering with chronic pain in the heel and arch which hasn’t responded to any treatments at all, I’ve had this for about 7 years now and it is almost disabling me now. How long would I need to do this until I feel some sort of relief ? If anyone knows I would appreciate you taking the time to help 😔
I has to be a life time regime. It my experience it can snap back unless you are committed to strengthening your feet, ankles & calves. Think of it as a daily routine.
We feel you! Hopefully, there is still time to try and reverse any damage done (speaking from painful experience). Please let us know if we can help further!
I just wish I can send you picture of how mine looks. I’ve been in so much pain. I have back problems including 2 herniated discs and sciatica pain on the right leg. But This started happening for 2 years I work in retail so I’m standing for more than 8 to 10 hours a day and constantly moving going up and down escalator. Today was the worst I though I had a ball inside my feet. Don’t know what to do.
Excellent Discussion I had to move to NB running shoes with inserts because NB comes with widths. 11 2E is difficult to find. Also ASICS seem to run wider as well.
Hi there! Thanks for the feedback. If you're looking for wider, foot-healthy running shoe options in the future, we highly recommend checking out Altra and Topo Athletic :) Shoe liners are removable in some of their models as well, for some added toe splay space!
Doctor, do you know anything about plantar fasciosis caused by fluoroquinolones adverse reaction? My pain started after taking Cipro. Now apart from feet pain (not just the heel, also sides and balls, especially left big toe) I have hip pain and itching and burning sensation in hands and feet.
I've been having pain and soreness in my feet, thought I had plantar fasciitis but now I've lost feeling in my heel, toes, and the bottom of my feet, not sure if this is the reason but gonna give this a try
Hi Raychael! Thanks for checking out the video. Definitely give Correct Toes a try, but if the lack of sensation persists, please consult a doctor. Hope you're having a great day!
Yes! We often recommend Epsom salt foot soaks to patients in our clinic, which contains magnesium that may help to relax muscles. However, a foot soak in just warm water will likely also be effective. Heat helps to dilate blood vessels, increasing circulation to the area, which means more nutrients come in and more waste goes out.
Just found this video. Noticed someone mentioning the correct toes website an mentioned altar (? sp) shoes. Here's my dilemma. I have flat feet, triple e width and my career is in food service so must have slip resistant shoes on my feet at least 10 hours a day. Any helpful direction on shoe advice is greatly appreciated.
Hi Rebecca, Take a look at our shoe list on our website: www.correcttoes.com/foot-help/shoe-list/correct-toes-approved-shoes/correct-toes-approved-mens/ The men's models are all wide, and you should definitely be able to find something that works for you!
I too have flat feet and triple E width omg it's been a nightmare finding comfortable shoes my whole but I have always found flatter shoes to work best for me.
my foot doctor basically that the stretching doesn't work and i need to wear the orthotics. is my foot does feel better in a few months he said he was to do the surgery to release it. that already after having the two cortisone shots he gave me. right not my foot feels the same after the injection.
We hope you are able to avoid the surgery and your foot does get better. continue the exercises and feel free to book an online consult with one of our doctors as well: www.nwfootankle.com/scheduler/
Thank you. I don't know what any of this means, but I'm fairly limber and my pinky toe started curling under the toe beside it ("yoga toe" or something - my routine was already moved to "light" or "no" core strengthening due to ovarian cysts; now it seems remaining routines have to be PT-modified, as well). 😢 So I'm wearing the toe separators. I stopped wearing them in my shoes (I'm not in shoes a lot because of covid, so I'm barefoot) because even in some minimalist brand, my feet hurt so bad I wasn't sure I could drive home! Last two mornings, I've woken up with "ouchie feet": like, at the ankle, but on "top" of the foot, where the foot meets the shin. I found a few exercises on YT tonight (my usual ones didn't help), focusing on hip and quads (and glutes) stretches. My arch doesn't hurt. Is it *possible I'm missing wearing heels?* I've worn them since college up until covid "furloughed". Most of my work now is stupid _sitting_ and I know that's not good. But the year before I moved from a 4" heel to a 2". 😅😥😭 And now I'm in minimalist or go bare-foot (or socked) with toe separators. The silicone gel has already done a bang-up job with my toes, but ONE "bad day" (no exercise, or forgot a pinky toe single separator) and I get that stupid blister on the inside of my pinky toe. I think I'm trying a heating pad, next. Thanks for this: I haven't heard of bunions (don't have that) and plantar fasciitis really so I appreciate the muscle explanations. But I really LIKE my feet and they're important and our podiatrists here are, um, "conventional" all the way. :/ So I'm sorta on my own.
Thanks a lot for your excellent videos, Dr Ray. I wish I'd live anywhere near you. Will the body ever get rid of the dead tissue? How can I speed up the process?
Toe shoes and going around barefoot more often helped me get rid of plantar. Took a while though since I have been running in big motion control footwear for years. Really like going without the big shoes. Also, never twist my ankle anymore running trails. Give toe shoes a shot. Just work slowly into them.
I have lived with chronic pain from plantar fasciitis and neuromas for about 5 years. I have been to many doctors and tried just about everything except surgery and nothing has worked. I am not sure exactly how to proceed but I am going to this. I wish you guys were closer.
Hi there! We would love to help and offer a remote consultation option for those that do not live in Portland. Here is some more information if you're interested: www.nwfootankle.com/remote-consultations/ Looking forward to chatting soon. Best of luck!
I think I will as the simple massaging the big toe and pulling it to a more aligned way - overnight took away my 5-month ailment which was radiating from the inner-arch heel area.
Oh wow, this is news to me. I do shockwave therapy and it has helped one foot, but not the other. I learned I should stretch the outside of the calf, plus strenghten gluteus medius. I sleep with the toe-strech sock and if I don't I wake up with cramps in my calf... but then I should maybe ditch the sock. I already separate my toes and stretch them down as it feels good. But now shoes... I wonder if Merrell zero drop is a good shoe, I have used them a lot before. And can I start running again before the pain is completely gone- and then focus on landing on forefoot? Or is it risky?
Holy smokes, YES! Really great analysis, makes total sense. As far as figuring out how to gain the neuro-muscular coordination to activate the adductor hallucis, or the motor control to isolate that muscle, any recommended strategies or exercises? Usually when I'm trying to learn to isolate a muscle, I either stretch it until it says HEY I'M HERE! then learn how to flex it, or I load it in a position where it must bear weight. Neither one seems to be working for my adductor hallucis. Any tips?
I have no pain in the heel but I feel like my foot is trying to curl up. After soaking in hot water feels better for a short while.I try to work on the fascitis I feel sore spots and stretch it as much as I can tolerate. The top of my foot also hurts when sleeping I hang my feet off the bed while laying on my stomach. So much to think about. I thought I was deficient on vitamins or minerals.
Same principle for toe pain…. orthotics cause me more problems and more pain so the pain I’ve got between my third and fourth toe but it’s not because there’s no information it’s more about the position of my foot. My foot only likes to be straight - it doesn’t want heels or spongy souls or anything that gives it cushioning.
Has there been any cases of Correct Toes curing achilles tendinopathy? I used to be an avid runner, but quit due to crippling plantar fasciosis pain, as runner's knee and sciatic pain. I've tried too many methods and seen too many "doctors" to list in this box. Everthing has healed completely over time, either with the methods used or on its own, except my achilles pain and it is debilitating. I have very wide feet and as a kid trying on shoes at the store I would cry and throw tamtrums. My parents just thought I was just difficult. And for my whole adult life, whenever shoe shopping, I would hopelessly spend a whole Saturday driving to 5 or 6 shoe stores, trying on dozens and not find a pair that fit, which would result in me wearing shoes way past worn out. The last pair of shoes that fit sort of well and I actually liked was in 2009. I currently walk around in steel toed boots (5E, the widest on the market) on my days off work, because I can't be bothered to go shopping to only find pointy shoes. I've only just heard about Altra shoes and thought "Aha!"!!!!!!! I've ordered some and will pick up CT tomorrow as well. I'm excited that maybe I can get my quality of life back.
This sounds so right but so do all the other doctors that recommend rolling your foot on a tennis ball/ rolling pin and icing not heat, I saw two doctors in office. One completely contradicted the other. Both highly regarded. Both confused me even more. I will continue with the calf and tendon stretches and icing. Three months ago, I could barely walk, pail level 8. Today I walk everywhere with pain from level 1 to 2. Many helpful videos helped emensly.
There could be several factors contributing to this pain. We suggest you book an appointment to help determine where this pain may be exuding from. Please feel free to book an appointment through our scheduler; www.nwfootankle.com/scheduler/
Hello,In that area of the video (time marker 3:34, when that muscle pulls on the big toe, could that also cause numbness and a tingly feeling at the toes? Thanks!
That doesn't explain my having this condition. I started working from home 10 years ago and never wore shoes again, always in flip flops and sitting. However, this became a problem when I began exercising again, yet it was barefooted since I was doing martial arts. So, I'm really at a lost as to why I've been struggling with this for two years and nothing works.
Shoes are most definitely not the only culprit. It can be anything that causes trauma or stress on your feet. Any activity can do this and it's not to say we should stop being active. However, we can reduce pain, prevent it, and treat it quickly when we know the issue. Everyone responds to stress differently, consider speaking with a professional on how to reduce the pain and prevent further pain when practicing martial arts/
Thank you for explaining this! People have laughed at me for calling shoes foot coffins. I only ever said that to mean that shoes make feet atrophy. I didn't realize that shoes are actually causing tissue death!
thank you so much! this is like an epiphany!!! i am so pissed off with all the podiatrists, physios and doctors who wasted my time and money and gave me the completely wrong explanation and advice, leaving me isolated and in agony for over a year. just goes to show, always do your own research and never trust medics!
I completely agree that traditional treatment for plantar fasciitis was not working; in my case I was recommended to give up going barefoot, take anti-inflammatories and get orthotic shoes - I ignored that and got a physical therapist who gave me a few exercises and after a month or two, still barefoot, things got better. As for doing your own research, though, it's not as though you can ignore "medics," you just have to decide which medics you trust. Not very likely you'll be doing biopsies on your own feet, or even figuring out the relevant functional anatomy on your own. And if you just browse the internet, you're as likely to find dangerous nonsense as good advice.
Very enlighten and well done presentation... Is it reversable, or what would be the ultimate cure for this issue if your therapies didn't help symptoms associated with pain of either osis/itis diagnosis? What kind if shoes would be beneficial.
Can you please post a link to the taping video I am having trouble finding it. Many thanks for this vid btw, indeed stretching my PF seems to aggravate it, I do also seem to have rigidness in the first metatarsal as well.
Hi, Stavros! Here is the link to the plantar taping video: ruclips.net/video/87OXda0UQm4/видео.html Thanks for the support! We hope these videos provide some foot relief. Another exercise that Dr. McClanahan recommends in this video is the Toe Extensor stretch (linked below). This should help with rigidness in the big toe, if that's what you're experiencing. We wish you the best of luck in your foot health journey! ruclips.net/video/h2kaEOd3GcI/видео.html
I have p f for more than 10 y ears. After watching your video I remembered once several years ago I walked like for more than 4 hours with no problem but I Was wearing sandals ( the once you put your big toe into it) I am going to try it again. Also there is a way to separate your big toe with tape.
Sorry to hear that you've been dealing with plantar fasciosis, but you're absolutely right--sandals are a great way to keep your feet feeling free and flexible! Keeping your foot mobile is key to keeping it healthy. Thanks for checking out the video!
This makes sense, but I'm confused: why does my foot hurt so much worse if I *don't* sleep with the splint? Also, it's nearly impossible for me to find foot-shaped, wide toe box shoes with zero drop that actually fit my (female) 2E feet. Altras have gotten more narrow and no longer work; Topo felt great except the midfoot narrowing is just too tight (they seem to think the ball and toes area is wide but the midfoot narrows to half that width...?). Lems also did not work: not wide enough, and couldn't get the length right (9 too short, 9.5 too long). Even these three brands are difficult to find locally to try on, and ordering online is a huge pain in the behind. Tomorrow I have an appointment with a foot specialist, after 8 months of shifting pain (plantar fasciitis AND fasciosis symptoms, tarsal tunnel syndrome pain, and likely infracalcaneal bursitis -- when this started, I could not even set my heel on the floor for a month or more). After 8 months of intense research, I have a lot of misgivings about what he'll say and what he'll recommend. But I can't keep guessing at what might be the cause and how to heal it. Nothing I've tried has worked for more than a day or so, except the Correct Toes help a little when worn every day. (I can't wear them in my shoes, though -- no shoes wide enough.) It's maddening and frustrating when even doctors seem to have no idea how to fix this type of debilitating problem.
We would love to help you but we cannot provide extensive support via social media. Please call to speak to one of our doctors directly. The clinic number is 502-243-2699. You may ask for a remote visit.
How long is this suppose to take on average to fix your toes/feet? Ive been wearing the separators and they are helping greatly, but how long to wear I don't have to wear them anymore?
Hi Dorothy! Thanks for checking out the video. If it's a bunion (where big toe points toward second toe), here is some more information, along with a video exercise to try: www.correcttoes.com/foot-help/foot-conditions-and-problems/bunion/
I have insoles for my flat feet but i wonder if i should wear them with my new volleyball shoes? Will they make the shoes performance worse because the soul that i have is pretty hard and stiff and may worsen the soft cushioning of the shoe that is needed for jumping and landing support?. And because it's stiff, could it become a higher risk for spraining my foot or rolling my foot? I don't know if i should put the insoles in the volleyball shoes could someone please help me i really need som answers.
I am in the Uk. I have had physio which didn’t help, I bought over the counter arch supports which were useless, had an MRI where they labelled the pain plantar fasciitis, I’m not convinced. Can you tell me if shock wave therapy is helpful please. My pain has moved from feeling like there’s a stone under the heel, that stopped and now I have pain on the outside of the heel under the ankle joint. I feel burning and when I walk for a while I get a pulling sensation into the glute which is near the ischial tuberosity area. Any advice would be most welcome but I realise it’s difficult without a physical examination. Many thanks.
Have a healthier life
Dr. Are not really trying to help

This is real ....thanks so much
What are miniiralist shoes
@@joesielskisr4911 Check out shoe brands like Lems or Xero. They idea behind minimalist shoes is that modern shoes are often counter-productive with all the features they often (with problematic designs elevated heals in most shoes, not just womens, toe spring or lifting up your toes, tapered or cramped toe box). Minimalist shoes eliminate all these and let your foot be the way God designed instead of contorting it.
How to you stretch the opposite?
@@dinomonzon1529I think by pressing down on your toes, as opposed to stretching towards you. Look up Dr. Berg's video on RUclips about how to correct or treat plantar fasciitis. He is in line with what this video says.
I spent 5yrs going to doctors in Tacoma and Seattle WA, spending thousands and no results. I have just started this, only by thinking outside the box to change things up. So far the results are way better than what Ive paid for.
How are you now, did you do everything in the video? 🌻
Did it work?
Did it work?
How are you doing now?
Did it work?????????
I have suffered with plantar "faciitis" for the past 8 months. I have done all the traditional treatments, cortizone, night splints, orthotics, stretching, anti inflamatory pills and creams, Graston technique therapy, massage. Nothing worked. I continued to have pain in my heel every day. After only one week of doing your stretches my heel is beginning to feel much better. I purchased the correct toes and proper athletic shoes and have started walking on my treadmill again. Thank you so very much!
Did you find the correct toes online or at a local sporting goods store? What athletic shoes are they recommending?
Heather Hershey Yes, I ordered the correct toes from the Correct Toes website. The Athletic shoes they recommend are Altra. Good luck!
This doc is so simple ......& he makes more sense than all the RUclips vids I have seen......
Thanks for the support, Tommy! Hope you're doing well :)
Northwest Foot & Ankle I applied your techniques just last night ....understanding how to correct the alinement of muscle & ligaments is worth it’s weight in gold.....
This is exactly what I'm experiencing and the doctor I was seeing was treating it completely wrong! This helps so much, thank you🙂.
I'm forwarding this to all my plantar fasciitis sufferers. thanks Dr. Be blessed!
We really appreciate your feedback! Thank you for sharing with you mom.
Any chance you could post a pic of the taping?
@@Wildemere1 hi could you contact me and i will send you free product for you ,Thanks
@Ron Packwood Would you mind sharing what toe spread you got and the taping spots of your kinesiology tape? I've had chronic plantar fascitis for like 3-4 years and maybe I was wrong in my "inflammation" approach the whole time. Want to try this since it makes alot of sense

God bless!
Lena Wood awesome glad to hear that, how did you stretch your toes out and for how long
At a time?
Appreciate Video! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you researched - Mackorny Feet Ahead Blueprint (should be on google have a look)? It is an awesome exclusive product for Relieving foot pain without the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my cousin after a lifetime of fighting got cool results with it.
Lena Wood thank you God for this video, I will try this 👍🏼
Thank you for this seriously! I ended up not diagnosed with PF but was able to pass this on to people who were
I picked up a pair of toe spacers. Went for a run. Little pain in the heel. Wow! Soaking feet in hot water twice a day, stretching toes and using toe spacers. My PF is 95% gone. Thank You!
how long did you have PF? were your calves tight ?
When do you wear the toe stretchers? When you walk? While sleeping?
Wow! Thanks Doc. I have had bunionectomies in both feet and now PF and AT. BUT...'osis' vs 'itis' is a game-changer. Thank you. Will share your video with my physical therapist!
Do tell. Love this careful and honest person making a career truthfully exsploring the amazing human foot .
Thank you.
I developed this problem last year after a long trekking trip. As the pain was getting unbearable, I then bought a pair of Birkenstock sandals thinking that it will provide some arch support at least and ease the pain. Turned out that I forgot I had the pain and it healed quite quickly within a few weeks or months.

I watched this video and bought some toe spacers and did the stretch and rubs. That was a year ago. It worked brilliantly! The painful lump I had is gone and my feet and body feel so much better. I make sure to continue to practice this. The only thing that worked. You and your team are geniuses! This is amazing.
When did you use the toe spacers? At night when sleeping?

Wow I've never heard of it explained like that before. It makes so much sense. I definitely agree that it is a problem of circulation as I found that when I started sleeping on the floor it gave my body better circulation at night and it helped my PF a lot.
Great video content! Apologies for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you thought about - Taparton Walking Foot Takeover (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a great exclusive product for Getting Rid of Plantar Fasciitis minus the headache. I'm excited to see this, Dr. Eric Berg, another RUclips sensation agrees and also recommended the stretches, but your understanding goes far beyond to mastery. please make more videos to spread this knowledge.
We're always looking to share our knowledge! Thanks for checking out the video. We appreciate your support!
Same! 😭😭
What if you have a plantar fascia tear? Do you recommend toe spacers/wide shoes like altra or walker boot
?
This explanation makes so much sense! I wear pointy toe heels to work 5 days a week. But, what about when my pain is on the outer side of heel. Same thing, feel it the most when I've just gotten out of bed or when I first begin running but goes away once it's warmed up.
Probably an analogous thing happening, but due to the pinky toe being forced in and up (hence people often get bunionettes A.K.A. Tailor's bunion. You can get barefoot friendly dress/professional shoes these days, which don't have toe spring, are zero drop and don't taper at the front in a way that deforms the toes. Check out Anya's barefoot shoe finder (comes up on google) to find something that suits you
My plantar fasciitis started with edge of foot then moved to heel. Just the beginning. Now I'm following all of doctors advice to heal it.
Can you give a timeframe of how soon this might work? I'm desperate. In intense pain for 4 months - not relief doing any of the other things that you mention do not work. Thanks.
I have been exploring the internet for months. You have provided the best information with solutions by far.

Wish I had found this earlier. I always had a feeling that the exercise I was given was incorrect. Also had a feeling I should seperate the toes!!
Your intuition was correct!! :)
Thank you so much . Will look into the toe spreaders now as the sock ones do not seem to be making any difference

I hope you can help me better understand the plantar faciosis as a circulatory issue resulting in dead tissue and heel pain:
If the abductor hallusis muscle is out of balance with the adductor hallusis and is cutting off blood supply to the medial heel, why doesn't sleep restore the blood flow? The foot is out of shoes and no longer constricting the muscle, so it would "seem" that this would be the time of least pain for the plantar fasciitis, but often morning is when the worst pain is. Will the abductor continue to constrict the medial heel during sleep until the adductor length is restored? Also, are you saying the dead tissue is what is causing the pain? Or that the circulatory issue of "trapped blood" in the medial heel is what is causing the pain?
Thanks very much for your help.
Meg
May be that's because calcaneus is compressed with the bed2 sufrace underneath..try sleeping with foot off the bed.
Yes I watched Dr Eric Berg he said the same thing
I also mentioned this to my chiropractor and he said, "That's the first thing (about PF) that makes sense!

I used to get toe cramps and feet was throwing up the westside. Nice to know why. Great video.
😂😂
Since this video is 9 years old, do you have anything new to add to it? Any follow up?
Definitely use a frozen water bottle and roll your foot over it anytime during the day that will help a lot.
Quite informative....Please design a shoe that will not inhibit the natural circulation of blood in the mentioned areas. Thanks Doctor. God bless you.
This was really well done....... but what I truly realized. My toes are JACKED!!!!
We feel you! Hopefully, there is still time to try and reverse any damage done (speaking from painful experience). Please let us know if we can help further!
It's hard to tell, did I just massively overdo my excericse (after never doing any) or is it this? Its so painful in my left foot I cant stand
Hi Laura you can send us a picture of your foot to info@correcttoes.com we would be happy to help!
Great ..thank you. very informative and helpful . I am also suffering from the heel pain since 2 months. -- Preethi
Excellent Discussion
I had to move to NB running shoes with inserts because NB comes with widths.
Northwest Foot & Ankle thanks. The NB 880v8 112E with some inserts seems to be helping me for my wide high arched feet. I appreciate your thoughts.
I think you need my foot massages lol
Very good information. Thank you so much. Could soaking my feet help as well, and what should I put into the water?
Hi Rebecca,
Take a look at our shoe list on our website: www.correcttoes.com/foot-help/shoe-list/correct-toes-approved-shoes/correct-toes-approved-mens/ The men's models are all wide, and you should definitely be able to find something that works for you!
This is the best video ever he’s a genius 🙏🏼
Thank you! We are happy to provide the resources!
Here is some more information if you're interested: www.nwfootankle.com/remote-consultations/
Looking forward to chatting soon. Best of luck!
What about sliders sandals ? Flat with pad under front
These are great videos and very informative. I recommend people go to your website and get those correcttoes
Any tips?
Can a person lose wheight when the have this pain
I have no pain in the heel but I feel like my foot is trying to curl up. After soaking in hot water feels better for a short while.I try to work on the fascitis I feel sore spots and stretch it as much as I can tolerate. The top of my foot also hurts when sleeping I hang my feet off the bed while laying on my stomach. So much to think about. I thought I was deficient on vitamins or minerals.
Foot exercises and heat are great! Keep up the hard work. Best wishes to you in your foot health journey.
ICE - ice, compression, elevation (and massage)
I hope Altra worked for you. I had luck doing weighted calf raises/eccentric heel drops.
I have pain in the heel that goes up the arch. Does that mean my PF is severely damaged vs just localized heel pain?
There could be several factors contributing to this pain. We suggest you book an appointment to help determine where this pain may be exuding from. Please feel free to book an appointment through our scheduler; www.nwfootankle.com/scheduler/
Hello,In that area of the video (time marker 3:34, when that muscle pulls on the big toe, could that also cause numbness and a tingly feeling at the toes? Thanks!
Hi, Bob. You are correct. It can numbness and tingling because of the constant strain on the muscle.
Same
I completely agree that traditional treatment for plantar fasciitis was not working; in my case I was recommended to give up going barefoot, take anti-inflammatories and get orthotic shoes - I ignored that and got a physical therapist who gave me a few exercises and after a month or two, still barefoot, things got better.
I had that problem with my feet I take calcium carbonate plus vit d400iu for a month no pain for 5 years
FAZILA RAMBAJAN can u help me with the exact names pls
Very enlighten and well done presentation...
Is it reversable, or what would be the ultimate cure for this issue if your therapies didn't help symptoms associated with pain of either osis/itis diagnosis?
What kind if shoes would be beneficial.
Can you please post a link to the taping video I am having trouble finding it. Many thanks for this vid btw, indeed stretching my PF seems to aggravate it, I do also seem to have rigidness in the first metatarsal as well.
Hi, Stavros! Here is the link to the plantar taping video: ruclips.net/video/87OXda0UQm4/видео.html
Thanks for the support!
This makes so much sense! Great information!
What do I need to bring back my big toe to align with the foot.It protrude outwards
Hi Dorothy! Thanks for checking out the video. If it's a bunion (where big toe points toward second toe), here is some more information, along with a video exercise to try:
www.correcttoes.com/foot-help/foot-conditions-and-problems/bunion/
I have insoles for my flat feet but i wonder if i should wear them with my new volleyball shoes? Will they make the shoes performance worse because the soul that i have is pretty hard and stiff and may worsen the soft cushioning of the shoe that is needed for jumping and landing support?. And because it's stiff, could it become a higher risk for spraining my foot or rolling my foot? I don't know if i should put the insoles in the volleyball shoes could someone please help me i really need som answers.
Why does this usually occur in only one foot?
I m amazed. This is wat I have been suffering from.
