    I did some modifications on mine switching receiver to an AR630 and an Avian ESC and now it's the best flying machine I own. So light airframe and I can go on all day doing aerobatics with the smoothest starts and landings. Not to mention it looks so cool with that 4 bladed prop.

    Great advice, you've helped my success and enjoyment of this model. My local areas are all grass fields, too rough for any wheel roll. So this has taken it's toll, overstressing the landing gear mounts (and one prop). I wish to design a replacement for the rigid gear with more spring to absorb the touchdown using skids instead of the front wheels that could keep the prop up and bounce off the grass. Any thoughts or examples? Thank you for all your effort!

      I agree that using the spektrum gear is way more reliable and definitely a competitive advantage. I can't believe how much easier some of these planes are to fly with a proper Transmitter, BUT....if you're new to the hobby, expecting someone to buy a proper transmitter, if a pretty high bar for the average consumer....so I like the RTF options for someone that's just getting their whistle wet.

  • @flightlessboid

    Brian, you mention about an "auxiliary port" that can be used for flaps on this Mustang and the Sport Cub 500 (which I have). I'd love to add active flaps. Any details on the process and what would you use on this transmitter to activate them?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 года назад

      I think it's pretty straight forward. Open the plane, plug a servo in, and then actuate it with the switch on the Transmitter. IF it works, you'll be ready to cut them in, or add some split flaps :)

      Slow down the plane, and it'll oscillate less, but you can also change the hole position on the elevator or ailerons to make the output less...this will help, but you may already be in the outer most hole. If you're already in the outermost hole, get creative and make the control arm longer...you'll be super surprised how well this works,

    • @jamesohoh7
      @jamesohoh7 4 года назад +1

      I have this plane and I dont recall seeing a separate gyro board in it... it appears all built in to the receiver. So, if there's not a satellite type hookup jack (like Mr Phillips showed on the OMP planes the other week), then you'd have to remove the stock receiver (w/it's gyro) to add in your AR620. If I remember when I get home from work, I'll open mine up and see if there's any marked port/jack for satellite type receiver hookups. ETA: when I say 'satellite', my understanding in this context is that this is a 'secondary' receiver on the plane, piggy-backed off the primary one... not a 'GPS device'. If that understanding is incorrect, forgive me...call it whatever it should be called then. I am just referring to the notion of a 2nd receiver being connected up. It has a 5th servo connx, maybe that can be used for a piggyback receiver?.. I have no idea. I'm not real versed in the tech details..the manual that comes with the plane is very thread-bare. The servo connectors are the normal 'JR' style I think?.. the black, thin 3-on-a-line orange-red-brown wire-colors type we're all used to.. which would plug in to any normal 3-pin-per-servo receiver. I have never used s-bus, so can't speak to that, but if you're an s-bus guy, you surely would already know how to convert a 3-pin servo plug to use for s-bus.

      I would NOT. This plane is not a good flyer without a gyro in my experience...there something about the size. It stalls fairly FAST, and lands even faster.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 года назад +1

      This plane is pretty tough to fly compared to others...something about the high wing loading of the 750mm size...I don't think it's 3S compatible, and the smaller the ESC and Motor, the more likely you'll catch her on fire with a larger pack...so I'd suggest no, BUT I haven't tried it myself.
      If you really want 3S power, you MIGHT consider this... P-51D 1.2m June Nite bit.ly/30hC9ku ...which is a bit more, but a TON better. Also, this is a BNF... I just don't want you to be dis-satisfied.

    Hey Brian any chance you will get the new Eflite mustang 1.5m? I’m considering it and your videos really help me decide. Seems a while since you’ve had a medium size plane over 1m wingspan. I’d love to see you do that new 1.5m mustang!

    How much does the 7.4 v 25c 850 mah battery that you used in this video need to charge with the charger that came in the box?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 года назад

      It was somewhere around 4ish VDC per cell, so about 0.2VDC per cell...about 1/3 the normal charge after flying. Generally, 3.80 VDC is the accepted "storage" charge level, so I was surprised to see it at this higher level.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  18 дней назад

      That seems like a lot of nose weight, but this Volantex 750mm is not the most stable P-51 we've flown. It's been a long time, but I knew we used a bigger battery to try and get more weight up front. I'd start with a little less than your 14 grams and do a little trial and error. The CG from Volantex might not be spot on. Sorry that's not super specific, but hopefully it helps a little. Thanks for being here with us!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

      Not sure, sorry. It's small enough that you'll probably loose sight of it before it disconnects from the Tx.

    When I put my p51 in beginner or mid mode the rudder pulls all the way left, it seems fine in expert mode though, any ideas what this problem is trimming doesn’t seem to help

    • @BrianPhillipsRC

      Try putting on the ground and powering it down, then plug in the power and hold the sticks down and away from each other. Soon you'll hear everything "center". I suspect this will resolve your gyro issue, but give it a try.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  5 дней назад

      We tend to recommend the Volantex brand the most. They are kind of "the mother ship" so to speak and seem the have the best tech for the size class. The 750mm was NOT our favorite plane, at all. The NEW 500mm with brushless motor is excellent as well as the 400mm size.

    Why do model aeroplane flyers like to add the word "Tip" to the word Stall to describe a Spin in stead of just using the term - a STALL or a SPIN (or a spiral dive) as in real aeroplanes ?
    ...... ✈ ✈ ✈

    • @CaptainJohn
      @CaptainJohn 4 года назад

      MrHelidude
      I believe it’s called that for many reasons. Mainly because only the Tip stalls in certain parameters. Wingtips stalk first so the plane will “roll” to the side with the stalled wing because lift is depleted. A normal stall can also Result in a roll but its not nearly as aggressive. Hope that helps

    • @MrHelidude
      @MrHelidude 4 года назад +1

      Thank you.
      Always hear it at model flying places. Must be an RC term as in real planes we just mainly refer to a stall as a stall (which may result in a spin - incipient spin ).

      I am not trying to be silly and picky but it's just that we always hear that term when someone crashes their model radio control aeroplane and always wonder why do they add the extra word "tip" to the word stall..
      We don't hear that in aviation. Thank you Brian and many happy greetings ..... 🙃

      I can't blame you for not wanting to do business with them, if that's been your experience. Are better pilot than I am I can't judge my distance and I've been flying for 25 years my depth perception sucks

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 года назад +1

      My buddy, Esteban was in denial about how blind he really was, and got glasses, then he said he could see so much better that his depth perception was greatly improved....not saying that this is your problem, but might be worth looking into???
      Seeing is very helpful. I have had LasicPlus twice (1st time and touch up)...as I was BLIND before (Well, not legally Blind, but almost)....Best $3,500 I ever spent!
      Also, a trick that works for me (most of the time) is to see an object out a waze, and then use that as a size reference...like my mailbox, or the fence post...I know about how big they are, and that tells me when I'm close. It's not totally foolproof, but it's a great way to gauge distance.
      Either way, I love flying, and do it a lot! Hope I'll still be flying (legally) in a few short years ;( remote ID - what a farce!!!

    Your videos make the hobby fun, Thank You! You mention some control oscillations, I see this on the ground and in the air (tail wagging) at times and wonder what might correct it. On the ground I detached the rudder control clevis and noticed the vibration stopped. The rudder control also has two ranges, it will go to a higher range of travel with the gyro stabilizer on. It also has some "stickiness", that is the rudder will not return to center until some yaw occurs (or control input). Here's an example of the oscillation: ruclips.net/video/poN82I_y3dM/видео.html

    • @robertheim352
      @robertheim352 Год назад +1

      I've solved the tail wagging by adding adhesive between the servo board and the main wing, I suspect it was adding some oscillation feedback to the gyro.
