Sean was extraordinary. As a straight male, I truly appreciate his courage, his sense of humor, his compassion and humanity. Seems to be a lovely person. Smartless, by the way, is one of my favorite podcasts.

Was about to post the same. Any kid growing up in the States in the 70s surely remembers Hollywood Squares & Paul Lynde's snappy retorts. Though not all of them will have withstood the test of time (some would be ill-advised today), he was overall over-the-top & hilarious, 'though there was this pathos lurking just beneath the surface. There was likely so much more to Lynde than we even know & Sean would be perfect casting.
Lynde had a really sad, interesting life. That would be amazing!

I remember Oscar Levant as the target of a devastating critique.
Levant was teasing his friend, George Gershwin, about the supposed vanity in the composers many popular songs, to which Gershwin quipped back, "“Oscar, why don't you play us a medley of your hit?”
If you went to any show-biz party in 1950s New York you could find Oscar Levant and Dorothy Parker sitting on the sidelines amusing one another with their devastating critiques of everyone else in the room. They took particular joy in ruthlessly mocking Leonard Bernstein for his pomposity. And in fact Oscar was probably the one person in that crowd who was as gifted as Bernstein - no exaggeration, he was a musical genius who could sight read anything - but was hobbled by his issues and his demons. I wish I were still living in New York; I’d love to see this play.
Somebody please give Sean Hayes his own talk show on TV....we love him! He's so hilarious!!

I have always idolized Oscar Levant. This will be very exciting. That people remember Mr Levant is really amazing. Who is Oscar? He is one of the greatest talent ever. Brilliant musician, manic depression, great actor and brilliant wit. No body understood him. Maybe the Gershwin brothers. He is someone to be respected. An icon. I mean Mr Levant.

The only time I ever saw a real Broadway show ON BROADWAY was right next door to the Ed Sullivan theater, and it was Sean Hayes and Kristen Chenoweth in Promises Promises, on my birthday in 2010!
Just saw this play, I laughed, I cried, I hope Sean Hayes wins a Tony. The entire cast, sets, costumes, all perfect, you feel like you're in the that era's audience, Bravo to all, especially Oscar, Sean isn't Sean, he's Oscar.

I mean it seems like the next step would be removing stuff like this from physical book stores because children have access to them and anything involving two boys kissing is "pornography".
