Superior Mirage of Chicago Skyline from St. Joseph, Michigan 60 Miles Away

- This video was taken on April 18th at 7:14pm from a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan from St. Joseph, Michigan, looking Westerly toward Chicago. These images are known as a "Superior Mirage" caused by a large, well defined area of warm air over a layer of colder air that distorts light rays. Andrew Young, an astronomer at San Diego State University said "A thermal inversion forms over the lake, bending the line of sight from the camera to Chicago back down and producing the inverted image, which is typical of mirages". This mirage lasted for perhaps 20 minutes, and it was an eerie sight to behold as I've never seen anything like this in my life having lived here over 30 years.
We had a cottage just north of Grand Haven on Lake Michigan where, on a couple of occasions when the atmospherics were just right at night, I observed to the west the lights from Milwaukee reflected high above the city. My grandparents, the original owners of the property, had always insisted they'd seen the same thing long before I was born and finally, after they were gone, I got to see it too.

This is actually light refraction over the lake. I can attest to this because I live on this lake. If the earth were flat, you would be able to see the towering skyscrapers of Chicago from where I live, but even from a fifty story building, they remain out of a direct line of sight. Simple geometry shows this.

I see boats disappear bottom first. I see the Sun set without changing angular size and apparent Speed. The earth Is not flat.

a lake is a flat surface, just like water in a bowl, you physically can not prove a flat earth by looking across a lake, bay or a harbour
That's where you could most easily prove it, actually. Because it is flat, you don't have to figure land elevations or declination into any equation you might use. A flat surface is a constant and sphere trigonometry can be easily applied.. Just sayin'

BTW flat earthers, these type of videos and photos are PROOF that the earth is not flat, but curved, because if flat you would not only see the tops of the towers! I grew up in Country Club Hills, Ill and it is near the farthest SW part of Cook County and on a clear day I could see the tops of the towers to the north... AMAZING

I am starting to believe the earth is flat because if you look at other pictures of the Chicago skyline 60 miles away, you would see no curvature in the earth. Also if you look at a picture taken from the top of a Mountain, for example the alps, you would see very far but the earth has no curvature in the picture. If you would take a flight from say Singapore to L.A., it would be a direct straight flight. But it goes over the Alaskan coast down to L.A. . And this wouldn’t make much sense…. On a globe. But if you look 👀 at a flat map, you would see it makes much more sense.

Oceans don’t spill over because Antarctica keeps that from happening, they freeze when get too far away from sun. No record of anyone ever flying due west or east from any location back to where they came from, nor north or south, if look at a flat water model (flat earth) then can see that flying around earth may just be flying in a circle , like a railroad car circling a city. Flat earth / water still has the planet having a very large mass so in a major theory of gravity the result is the same.

If the Earth was flat, magnetic and gravitational forces would be pulling against each other, causing tsunamis and, likely, a disastrous scenario causing the world to end. This is NOT how gravity works. Forces combine and cause a "rip" to form our spheroid that we call Earth. If the Earth WERE to be flat, we would be ripped to shreds from the tons of force.
