taken from the excellent Hook's Gems..thank you very much
I used to listen to this record back in my old drink"n party days to show my friends what a huge impact Charlie Parker had on American Music. Hearing it again after so many years, I collapsed in tears in my chair, it was so beautiful and powerful. Get Art Pepper's book Straight Life and read the last page of the book where he recounts Sonny Stitt challenging him on his gig, saying he played everything that could be played, as much as if Charlie Parker had been there and upon finishing, looked at Art as if to say "allright suckah beat that."Yeah, Stitt was a monster and his music still sounds so incredible 67 years later. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for introducing me to this jazzy blues song which made me imagine being in a classy night club dining and drinking the most expensive wine there is.
thank God for this musician !
This is a jazz masterpiece. The technique, speed and the scales used by Mr. Stitt are awesome. Other chapter is the dexterity of Jimmy Jones, a superb pianist.
🤩
It's not recorded in 1956 for sure, 1976 is a better year, listening to the way every body plays, especially the bass amplified .... It's not for sure Jimmy, Ray and Philly, I don't know who they are but it's not them. Great music, wrong date and musicians. But thanks to share this great music.
