    Some strange sounds on this. Is that the dreaded Varitone? Still, Sonnys always worth a listen.

      The Varitone didn't appear until 1967. Maybe the recording date shown here is wrong??

      Sounds like the Varitone, that things is awesome but Sonny didn't really use it to its fullest, instead using it as a base sound instead of an effect, which would have been more effective perhaps. (Pun not intended)

    I think date is wrong as well as personnel. Doesn't sound like Jimmy Jones, Ray Brown or Philly Joe. And it's live recording not a studio date. Still, always good to hear Sonny Stitt, Varitone or not.
