Awesome! New sub, been watching through you videos for a couple of days am hooked! I found some tunnels in the back of the local woods here and not all of them blocked, they go miles, apparently to Southfleet. Your channel is pretty cool, thank you for sharing some historical gems that we would of lost forever without your footage. Take care
Great channel mate, love the facts and history you tell us as you explore! Also they way you direct the recording gives greater depth to the exploration, a lot of other urbex channels fail to point the camera long enough or at all at interesting stuff. Keep finding cool places brother!
Nice seeing how you get in to these places. Got a bit of interest in the bridge as my great grandfather used to light the gas lights, including having to hang off the side to light the arches for river traffic! I dare say he stopped past those bogs for a piss on the way home!
@@SubExploration the initial ladder by the entrance. It looked like the ends were hooked. Could this have been hooked over the entrance lip to get out or was it not the way it appeared? It's difficult watching and not getting your perspective. Just interested. Keep up the great work!!!
You should explore the other tunnels under Rochester bridge I’ve been down there a few times plus there are massive arches so interesting and proper old great vid love watching explores in my own town
Zilch71 Nope this is the original, proper Rochester, Kent, England that had a replacement bridge built in the year 1391 (though the one in the video is much much newer, built in 1856), Rochester NY did not even exist as a village prior to 1817.
Tyler Hummel I don’t think you can get to them any more but they are under the bridge years ago someone built a skate ramp in one of them but it got shut down I know a few of them were used for storage whilst they were building stuff but not to sure now
Different from your usual explore, thank you. Looking at how thin the deck is (& lacking in RSJs or other beams) I'm not surprised it's been backfilled: I've never seen so many Acro props in such a small area! 200m3 of sand/PFA/cement grout pumped in through the manhole. Simple, done. I'm glad you filmed it before it was lost.
I don't think most people even have the faintest idea how heavy manhole covers can be. Before storm drains were dug at work, a drain cover in the road would be lifted every time there was a storm. It was made of cast iron and concrete. It was a two man job to replace it. You were lucky that second ladder was there.
yup, very lucky 🤣 Google gatic covers. They are the worst i've had to deal with. You need specialist lifters to break the seal and then you have to jam a pole under it to roll the lid off the hole due to the weight.
Roof inside still had the remains of the glass filled skylight/foot grating which I suspect was under the larger 'manhole cover' (metal plate) while you were sitting at bench at start.... I remember being taken to a couple of similar amenities as a kid in late 70's/early 80's at different times around inner Sydney- I suspect those too sadly have now been filled with concrete leaving people to urinate & e.t.c in the streets after the pubs & clubs have shut.... They had similar 'skylights' & I remember marveling at them which is why I noticed it ;) (3rd suspicion)...now I come to think of it, THAT could be the reason for Sydney's "Lock-Out Laws" (1.30am lockouts and 3am last drinks at bars, pubs and clubs in the Sydney CBD entertainment precinct. ~ Wiki ) Thank you again!
I live down the road and didn't know about this one lol.. nice vid, hope you get some longer ones soon bro.. 👊 some good place in cliff underground tunnels throught the forts, was flooded last time i went, only ankles just above. Depends on the tides
@@SubExploration yeah ive seen a few places you've done that ive been to. Good times. I do industrial rope access, i use to take a rope with loads of large alps like a ladder so my pals could climb up and down haha.. Keep up the vids mate 👊
I remember the grafting of the new bridge onto the old railway bridge, my old dad used to take us kids down and we would sit on a hill with his binoculars or maybe he would wander in and see a mate working at Strood signal box (he was a relief signalman based at Hoo Jnc/Cuxton) or sometimes my uncle Ray would crawl into the quay sidings in his class 33 with broken wagons and we would nick his tea (some summer holidays I was allowed to go on shift with him and nothing like coasting up the line in a class 33 with the door open or hanging out the window). There used to be an absolutely huge length cast iron footbridge over the old wagon repair yard Rochester side and I expect its all gone :( What is funny is years later they are lamenting losing the old railway bridge because the increase in Gravesend side traffic coming up that nasty tight climb from Strood and being 15mph from the start of Higham tunnel to the start of the bridge is a real PIA :(
The sharp edge and lack of tiles on the 'doorway' between the two areas implies it has been cut at a later date. So I'd guess you are right, the western end was the ladies and eastern end the gents.
Very new Landis & Gyr single phase electric meter there. Recognise them from a mile away. Probably feeding lighting for the bridge or street lights. Unusual but not unheard of, as street lights are unmetered supplies (the power company bills the council a fixed amount). So it has been maintained and the meter read quite recently. Good vid though!
I remember using those toilets as a child. From memory you walked down the stairs and it was male and female. I also remember the cubicles needed an old style penny to open them.
Legalising will remove the incentive for deperadoes to grow in historic locations. We had a pettition about it. The leaders did not even bother to show up at the debate.
They legalized it here in Canada last October. Now you get beer and a few g's at the same time! Your allowed to grow plants at home too. The downside is they have gone mental with the laws about smoking and driving....but the amount of money they have made from taxes has them stunned lol
We're waiting for a Cannabis personal use consultation here on the Isle of Man. We've had the medical Cannabis consultation a while back. We even had Mick Jagger suggesting the IOM should be a test bed. Don't know if that helped or hindered the case. I doubt it'll happen though, too many old farts from the "reefer madness" generation 🙄
