Hey everyone! Funny thing, Toei decided to bend me over and fuck me in the ass by striking my video after I had already uploaded it and it was clean from any copyright issues. So now I'm fucked and I'll get no money from this because my appeal was denied immediately! Awesome! I normally only beg as a joke but if you could check out some of my other vids I would appreciate it. I'm gonna keep the video up just for engagement, I doubt reuploading it will allow it to garner the same traction. Thanks in advance.

No, ROF Gohan is genuinely horrendous and you did not go hard enough on him. Lmao he suffered about as much as Goku in terms of character assassination. What Gohan did in that movie was fail a test again because he did not study, with his first failure being in the Buu saga even after having his issue SPELLED OUT to him by Vegeta. He slacked off so bad he couldn't access the form he INTRODUCED to the franchise. I don't know why people mince their words so much when discussing Gohan especially when it's as blatantly bad as it is in this movie

Yeah, Gohan's my second favorite char, and I get he doesn't like fighting but bro, you live in the DB world even if he doesn't train to push himself like Goku and Vegeta at the VERY least he could train to maintain his levels of new found strength. At least he can avoid getting caught lacking like RoF but they keep reusing that char arc it's insane.

@@Naruku2121 he really has no excuse. You would think him gaining a family would actually push him to train more cuz now he genuinely has a more personal reason to stay strong. @Naruku2121 Yeah you're exactly right Gohan is also like my favorite character which is exactly why I can't stand how poorly he's written half the time. Like literally the only reason anyone was alive is because Frieza happened to wait for Goku and Vegeta like what if Frieza just blew up the planet immediately? Worst part is that the story likes to portray Gohan as an intellectual type of character when he makes dunderheaded decisions like not training despite world ending threats coming to his planet since he was BORN. "Gohan didn't want to be a fighter!" That's no excuse his entire character is that he doesn't like to fight but MUST this is also something SPELLED OUT to him by 16 during his speech. Gohan also has insane potential so he doesn't even have to train that much to attain immeasurable strength the amount of slacking he had to do in order to get that weak is genuinely impressive 💀

    • @Naruku2121
      @Naruku2121 13 дней назад +10

@@tristysstuff6664 Yeah it's basically my sentiments exactly. If they written Gohan with the intelligence that he should have. He would of realized his failure after the mishap with Buu and Cell. Like Gohan has a strong desire to protect and care for those that he loves that's genuine motivation that he can use for his training.
Like they keep making him squander every new power he gets, when his sense of duty to protect is such a core part. It's his Human aspect that gets overlooked when it could be compelling when compared to Goku and his desire to be better than he was before and Vegeta and his drive to simply be the best.

      @philswift8793 12 дней назад

Vegeta was being a hard ass who didn't understand that Gohan had literally been told to beat Cell then go become a scholar, of course he slacked on his training.
And after Buu, where the entire arc is how there shouldn't be just one person everyone looks to, his Dad is back, Buu becomes an ally, and he gets together with Videl. He really wouldn't have much reason to train much, especially after Goku becomes a fucking God.
RoF is ass, but Gohan was one the least shitty parts of it

And it was also necessary, Goku's 'arc' for what it was, had been complete since he went Super Saiyan. Toriyama attempted to have Gohan take the mantle and become the new hero but the Japanese fans rejected it wholesale, refusing to accept anyone else as the hero other than Goku. So what do you do when you're essentially strongarmed into continuing a series in which the main character has fully matured and you're not allowed to shift the story to focus on someone else? You have to regress that main character so that there's something for that character to do. I know Western Dragon ball fans would be satisfied with new Super Saiyan forms for perpetuity and pretend that its character development, but that's not how you write a story. The fact of the matter is that Super never needed to exist, but people were screaming for 'Dragon ball Z' to return for so long without realising what that was going to mean.

12:06 another point in why he let him, is that he notes in the "maximum desperation" chapter from the manga, that if Freeza really wanted to blow up the planet, he would had, but didn't so they could had this fight. Along with him wondering to himself what was taking Gohan and the others so long to escape in the next chapter, it seems another part was humoring Freeza to let them have the time to flee the exploding planet. That's how I personally read it anyways, ofc the parts about wanting to humiliate Freeza at his strongests and whatnot still apply regardless

"Buu Saga" might've been a bit off the rails but they should've let him do his thing more often, I do wonder what more the red ribbon army aspect would've had in the androids/cell story had they let him do that more besides "Dr. Gero was involved apparently and wants vengeance." Still one of my favorite DBZ arcs though, if anything I wish they'd ressurected Gero to try and stop the others like helping Bulma to make the deactivator and him trying to betray and being taken down by someone else (like Tien I mean if Piccolo could've wiped the floor with him why not).

What makes RoF bad is that it basically only exists to introduce a few new forms, with none of them really getting a new showing. Super Saiyan God existed in the previous film and could've been expanded upon, but now we have Blue-per Saiyan to be even cooler. Except Goku gets bodied by a laser and Vegeta gets killed by Frieza even when the latter is out of power. Meanwhile, Frieza more or less loses the exact same way as he did on Namek, completely undermining the new Golden Frieza. And just in case all of that wasn't bad enough, Beerus and Whis show up in a film that didn't need them to essentially say "Don't worry. As long as we're here, the Earth won't be destroyed.", obliterating any potential tension that might've existed. And don't even get me started on Gohan inexplicably losing all of his power since the last movie.
The movie just feels like a toy commercial.

The form has a bunch of more important problems, but I will never forgive Blue for replacing God, the second best transformation and the most interesting one in the franchise in my opinion.
Unique visual language for the franchise with the aura and slimer body. The only thing that compares is UI Omen/Sign.
Interesting habilities independent of the power boost (regeneration, the bond technique from Broly).
Interesting lore with the ritual and the scene where Goku taps into it for a moment after losing the transformation that (I interpreted) suggests Saiyans are not required for it.
But no, just more power is the way to go. Also we are taking away the most unique things of God in the anime.

Super Saiyan Blue replaced SSG after The Battle of Gods Saga was over, just like SSG replaced SSJ3 after The Buu Saga yet you're not complaining about that.

    • @Lira_orpheus
      @Lira_orpheus 14 дней назад +7

@MajinUltraEgo Because of a few reasons:
1- Context: God appears almost two decades after the end of Z (in Japan) and for the big bombastic return of the franchise after Evolution. Blue appears only two years after BoG, in direct sequence of movies.
2-Relevance: SSJ3 is mostly used in the Buu saga as a sign that more transformations are not the way of defeating Buu. SSG is the gate opening to the realm of the gods and the only way to confront Beerus.
3-Unique & interesting: God has the most unique visual language of any transformation in the franchise other than UI Sign/Omen, the regeneration ability (that I think only appears in the movie, but don't quote me on that) and lore taking over the still visually interesting but nowhere near close to God SSJ3 and 4. In comparison SSJ3 and Blue are still recognizable as a design, but they are just a continuation of the SSJ design and lack any unique utility like God (that was expanded even more in Broly, btw).

To be fair on the part about frieza not perfecting golden form, it appears to be set up so that (spoilers) black frieza is a version that is not only stronger than the saiyans but also a form he took the time to master as he goes in it only to strike and then go out of the form instantly. It shows that frieza learned from his mistake the first time. This may have been done on purpose in RoF

    • @LaidBack--
      @LaidBack-- 5 дней назад

I beg to differ... To me it showed in ROF he wasn't much smarter than he was on Namek. He only trained in ROF because he literally had no choice and did the bare minimum based off his potential.
He still had that arrogance that he was above training in ROF. By the time the TOP rolled around, he had already mastered his Golden Form.
What really humbled him was after the Broly movie. He saw SSJBKK, SSJBE, UI, and MUI but instead of training hard, he lucked up on Broly and tried to rely on him knowing if all else fails, he was still inferior.
After seeing Gogeta, he had to humble himself and actually take training seriously. So he doesn't settle for closing the gap, he goes above and beyond to make sure the gap can never be closed between them again.
I highly doubt they were thinking that far ahead from ROF to Black Frieza.

Then we got that cell max nonsense. Nevermind a second reb ribbon army thing after Dr. Gero/Androids (even if the story was altered to just be nothing but one's dude revenge done all over wrong). Then Frieza somehow becomes dragon balls reverse flash/professor zoom of constantly coming back over and over (DC character flash's main villain). And we've had how many "evil goku's now? I mean not counting Vegeta because he doesn't feel like "if goku was evil." Raditz, then Turles, Goku Black, the last one only even worked because of the voice actors showing off and being convincing. Legit suprised Daima didn't just ressuect Dabura. And if Buu is just going to fall asleep all the time why he is even around? I preferred when he fused and stayed that way with Uub and that was the end of that. Super Saiyan Blue actually does have a unique upside, unlike super saiyan the ki used for blue is much more calm and refined, leading to less stress on the user body.
For normal fights that basically not means a lot, but for goku the calm and refined ki of super saiyan blue is what allow him to stack kaioken in the top without destroying his body instantly, it's also the reason why goku never used super saiyan kaioken in the earlier series.
Now i'm not saying this make super saiyan blue automatically a good form, just saying that the form does have a upside, that is all.

14:05 I think this is a localization trap. "overconfidence" is the wrong word, but what comes to you mind to describe all those moments? Pride.
BUT, who comes to mind when you're thinking of pride? That's right, Vegeta. It was basically his catchphrase to emphasize the power of "Saiyan pride". But we both know Goku and Vegeta are very different kinds of Saiyans. That was the entire point of the Saiyans saga: a prince elite hanging on to the last remnants of his legacy vs a low class Saiyan who simply focuses on bettering himself, outdoing all expectations by a dedication to training under multiple masters.
So you kind of run out of words to say "prideful but not really". "arrogance" is also wrong. Goku's pure of heart and has almost never looked down on others. The best but confusing ish term is "honorable". He assumes every opponent of his will treat him with respect. Despite being disproven by Piccolo (at the 23rd world tournament), Frieza, the androids, Vegeta again, Frost, and Frieza one more time. That sucker punch from whis kind of exemplifies that. Goku is far outclassed by Whis, but someone like Vegeta who is usually on guard would have reacted better than Goku who's assuming "what a respectable master".

Resurrection F is about Frieza's return to life, ascension of his power after a update on his rivals, a battle to achieve his goal and prove his superiority, after that its about the Sayajins and Z fighters getting lucky with Whis rewinding time enough for Goku to correct the error Vegeta made in not finishing off Frieza fast enough.
It was also the realization for Frieza to learn that his plan was ill thought out and its flaws (Goku reveals that to him), also for Vegeta to realize he didn't act soon enough and for BOTH of them to be robbed of their goals. Without the rewinding time part Frieza achieves his goals. Its true for both the movie version or anime version. Frieza realizes that before he is dead and sent to his own personal Hell only to be later brought back from for the tournament of power.
The better question is if rebuilding the Frieza force is one of Frieza's goals then why does he destroy what he has of henchmen? A lot of those would of easily of been as powerful or more powerful (realistically much more powerful on average than his old forces in Namek Saga and before, though since it isn't stated they may not of been up to Ginyu force or even Cui's level of power or Zarbon or Dodoria.
After all its known that the Frieza force allows and encourages training of his recruits (there is a gym shown with Cui's scenes as well as healing chambers)
At most one can argue its animation budget or just Frieza's realization of the futility of his loyal soldiers and just blowing off steam.

Regarding the Ring blast that shot Goku and took him out, it makes sense with the Context that was supplied within the Manga where if the individual is off guard and doesn’t have the ki flowing throughout their body as if they are actively in combat that it would allow their bodies to still be “Fragile” or something to this effect. So in the context that Goku was yapping away to Frieza when he could’ve killed him at any moment and seeing how that blast came out of nowhere then Whis’s statement holds up here which is why he was taken out by it. This also makes sense in the context of Ssj2 Goku Vs Majin Vegeta where Vegeta hit Goku with multiple full force blows and ki blasts which Goku withstood but got knocked out from a single hit to the head while he was off guard.

I think the concept of cheap shots still being effective if the recipient isn’t prepared for it is GREAT and makes the power scaling so much more realistic! Although I don’t know how that concept lines up with the rest of the lore and what we’ve been shown before… that’s probably why people are mad

A major thing is that we are told that Golden Freeza could have instantly beat Goku if he had gone all out. Meaning Golden Freeza is drastically stronger than Blue initially. People say he got stronger from Image training, but I disagree. That was never stated. He only really states that he perfected his ki control, which would make sense from image training. I believe he didn't get stronger, he just managed to maintain his power, meaning the time between Freeza and the TOP saw Goku close the gap, not Freeza maintaining a match.

Resurrection of F was a precursor of the lazy rebooting of old characters and making them new. Broly should have been someone new, hell Black Goku should have evil Goten. Goku fighting his evil son would have rocked! The Rose form would make Goten go evil.

This has to be the most rose tinted glasses comment you can make. The dbz movie villains were all just copies of villains from the actual show with cool designs.
      -Turles is just another radtiz
      -Slug is literally king piccolo
-Garlic junior is pilaf but effective
-Cooler is quite literally frieza but taller and different color, nothing too special past design and voice.
-Janemba is cool but even he is just a movie version of majin buu
-Android 13 is quite frankly just more androids
-And even for the villains that were more original like wheelo, broly, hirudegarn, and bojack story beats were still often used.
All that to say, i’m not defending the arc or trying to say it’s super good or smt but it’s just really odd to be mad at recycling villains (even though super fleshes frieza out more and builds on z) while citing the z movies as a good representation

Gohan being somewhat rusty was fine at this point cause yeah his dad is back but they shouldn't have said he potentially couldn't go super. He should of said yeah I could easily mop the floor with all these fodder troops in seconds but I'm no match for Freeza now so it be best to "put on a show" and try and fool Freeza. That would have used the army better by Gohan whipping them w/o issue but Freeza not getting that he is just playing them. At least until Gohan shows off super by beating Ginyu and Freeza could figure it out.
Odd how each of character has been exposed to SSG as well and they don't do anything with it for Gohan (who has been exposed to the elder Kai's awakening), Goten and Trunks. Though maybe that is why Gohan has beast now. Pan should get something with it as well.

Some really valid points I didn't consider about structure and pacing of this arc, themes etc, but respectfully I think I disagree about ss blue. You could have also griped about the fact Freiza being wished back violates the established rules of the dragonballs of earth (which are more consistent than memes would have one think). The main reason I think the points about that are weak can best be illustrated by comparison: almost all of those points also apply to SS2. While initially showcased as having resulted from a lot of training to hone super saiyan, SS2 was created as narrative contrivance, to give Gohan something to show his sudden boost past cell. I would argue it was not originally meant by Toriyama to be taken as such a distinct form all its own, considering he claimed to have forgotten about it when creating SS3. This was not in the grand scheme of things all that long a time period, its clear fans have always seen more in SS2 than authorial intention, and the canon retroactively evolved around the fans understanding it to be a far more significant upgrade than the hulked out 'grades' of ss, which a long time ago english speaking fans used to call "ultra super saiyan".
I bring up all that mainly to say, blue is not significantly worse on these types of things than SS2, or other forms. SS2 lacks tricks all its own, is generally less fleshed out in how it really differs from SS1 than even SS3 was, and it became a default state as of the buu saga, once Toriyama remembered to draw lightning to make it clear its SS2. On the other hand, I would literally NEVER argue SS2 is the worst form, for the same reason I would not say this of blue; it is beloved of the fanbase. Also consider that it is somehow cooler even for its slight difference from prior forms, and just feels like it works. The reveal of blue is comparable to the reveal of SS2, it fit the dramatic flow of the arc it belongs to, it made people cheer when they saw it. Simply by having a different color, it is instantly more distinct than SS2. imho blue just works, even if its dumb, convenient, and contrived. Being those things is par for the course with shonen, and dragonball especially so.
That being said, Resurrection F utterly flushed the character development of Gohan down the toilet for zero tangible benefit dramatically, and its handling of Vegeta, or really anyone but Goku, is nearly as bad. I do think perhaps I was blinded by nostalgia on it back when it came out, perhaps it calls for a re-watch to see if its as bad as "worst in the franchise" but... even with all your points granted for argument's sake... Is it worse than Future Zamasu? Is Goku black not only just as uncreative an antagonist as frieza--again, but stronger? Zamasu and even black are wasted premises poisoned by horrible execution, character regression, overall pacing woes, and a garbage ending to the arc. The trend continued downward after RF, but it wasn't RF's fault, nor even Blue's. I think the worst part is that the highlights of what did get animated, are tournament arcs, ones not even as good as those from dragonball. Thats really kind of sad when Morro and Granola actually seem like compelling arcs with original ideas in play, despite some of their own flaws.
Also as a minor gripe, I think its very semantics driven to quibble over over-confidence versus pride as goku's greatest fault in Weis' eyes. The difference in these concepts is minor enough that to a divine being, they may be not important to distinguish. Also, that was a dub line, so there may be a question of the wording being chosen to better fit mouth movement in animation. I also somewhat disagree that pride alone always better explains Goku's flawed actions than overconfidence. Consider for example, letting his guard down and getting shot by that laser in RoF, getting rabbit-punched after fighting Vegeta in the Buu saga being one of many more examples of this type of overconfidence. He consistently trusts things will work out, not always due to his own strength, or any kind of personal pride, but simply because he undervalues risks and consequences. The absolute best example of this is, to my eyes, giving cell that infamous senzu bean, though that could be argued to be pride in Gohan I suppose.
final thought, ginyu taking tagoma's body making him way stronger, is totally valid and made perfect sense with his power, and also I thought that callback to ancient history was kinda the highlight of the poorer anime version tbh. I suppose mileage varries.

Yes it had cool moments in isolation but the single setting, non-stop fighting & commentary from the sidelines for like 35 episodes was just painful to get through. It’s even boring to play through it in Sparking Zero. But I can definitely understand why you’d say Ressurection F is the worst.
I agree with basically everything you said, especially on Super Saiyajin Blue undermining the far superior form in Super Saiyajin God.
I think the overconfidence thing was a way to develop Goku.. by regressing him as overconfident first. Even what Whis describes as Ultra Instinct in this arc/movie is literally what Goku had previously learnt from Mr Popo.

My only problem is that Super wasted it's time in repeating the exact same story for literally no reason. With all that effort literally wasted, we could have gotten whatever manga arc comes after the TOP instead, before the never-ending hiatus, but nooooo.... @_@ I can defend most of the other things you bring up here, though. They aren't as bad as Vegeta's stupid-ass Super Saiyan explanation he comes up with later on, and itself isn't anywhere close to being as bad as anything GT did past Episode 2. I doubt anyone would argue those last two points at all, but I just wanted to get that off my chest.

In terms of canon, ROF is definitely the worst. If we are talking non-canon though, then Copy Vegeta and Super 17 are by far the worst

The arc would have been better use to develop the Earthling, Gohan, Goten, Trunk and Piccolo.
Like make them fight till Freiza Final Form then make him turn Gold so he is able to beat everyone combine force.
Then Goku and Vegeta pop back in with SSJ3 match him and then SSG one shot Frieza.
Like SSG should have been kept till Goku Black TBH.

I have so many issues with this arc.
    1. SSJB should’ve been saved for when Goku goes NUTS on Black and Zamasu or at the earliest his fight with hit, replacing Kaioken Blue with… well Blue. Seriously, what story differences would there be if they just kept God for an arc or two or three? It looks great and is a nice change from the other super Saiyan forms.
    2. The action is just bad. It’s slow, the choreography is uninteresting, and… well aside from Vegeta curb stomping Frieza, one of the few things I like in this movie but something that was ruined by possibly my biggest issue, there are no memorable action moments. Also the music is basically nonexistent, which can work, but it just felt so empty without the usual awesome music of the dragon ball franchise.
    3. The overuse of CGI, at this point, it didn’t look good. In Broly and Super Hero, it looks great, but here? It’s pretty bad. It’s the kind of thing you’d see in a WII game cutscene.
    4. Gohan… WHAT THE FUCK WE THEY THINKING?! I get he’s a family man now, but he can still train in his spare time. “I can still go super Saiyan probably” FUCK YOU! Base Frieza one shotting him should not have happened. There was no point in making him so pathetic and putting him into one of the worst outfits in the series. Speaking of outfit, and this is minor, but I really don’t like Goku’s gi in F and Universe 6.
    5. The ending. Okay so Frieza blowing up the world and Whis rewinding time? I can accept that, that’s actually kinda cool and probably the only thing in this saga the anime did better because it showed everyone’s reaction to being instantly blown up, most people barely having time TO react. However, when Whis brought them back in time, instead of Goku just telling Vegeta to kill Frieza, he steals the kill from the one who clearly deserves it! I mean Christ!
I really hate this movie and the saga is honestly worse.

It's easily the Super 17 Arc lmao. Worst Dragon Ball Arc of all time. I agree with most takes though. RoF is definitely flawed.
Yeah that movie scene with him in Blue was stupid. It's good the anime at least made him in base. It's something to do with Ki control though.
Though Buu Arc Goku was kind of a mix of overconfidence and selfishness. He fumbled by keeping SSJ3 away from Majin Vegeta and letting Goten and Trunks fight against Buu that was also very stupid. He was even dismissive of the fact that they saw their parents die and expected a five and seven year old (or however old they were) to fight an opponent like Buu even when they were drunk off of Super Saiyan power like any Saiyan when they get an overhand in battle. After that, he then decided to not use fusion against Buu only to cause himself even more trouble. It was only till then when he killed Buu completely. He also made the earth get destroyed technically. Or at least played a part in it. I just think Goku is Goku and whilst RoF definitely has problems with how it treats him since Buu saga Goku was punished and even humiliated for his pride/overconfidence/selfishness whilst RoF Goku wasn't which was a big problem.
(Though one thing I love about RoF was Goku's Gi. He had that shit on.)

Ngl i feel like this movie would have been better if they just at LEAST held off ssb until later in the movie it would go like this:
Goku and Vegeta are training on beerus' planet, and they do the little fist clash with the sparks of ssb like in the anime, but they dont straight up unlock it yet. Insert a little skip that's close to when frieza shows up and the movie plays kinda normally up until goku and vegeta arrive they fight in ssg and get the shit kicked most of the movie with it pretty much looking like a repeat of namek. They notice the stamia drain later into the fight while frieza is gloating but think its not enough of a drain to actually give them a chance, vegeta gets angry and tries drawing out more power and with doing so he flashes in and out of SSB, insert vegeta fighting frieza and knocking him aroun a bit and eventually finishing the job.
Ik this was really long but i just wanted to share how i think RoF would be just a bit better

Super 17 is the worst arc… although this arc isn’t much better but super 17 had bad animation, reused animation, poor use of transformations, and here… I’ll do this. The only redeeming part of that arc is 18’s moment, and oh god the amount of Ki spam is on par with this arc in the anime. Proof that most of the stuff after Z is of lesser quality.

I personally don't mind how Super Saiyan God often is briefly used and used skipped over by Goku.
He openly stated that he hated the power, because he didn't earn it. He didn't train to that level. To him, it basically feels like he used a cheat code.
And Blue is something he actually did work for, supposedly, so ut makes sense to me that he'd prefer to use the for he feels like he actually earned.
On the topic of these forms, the names definitely need to change, because Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is too long and Super Saiyan Blue sounds dumb to me
Personally i think the red hair should be called Saiyan God. Then blue be called Super Saiyan God.
But hey, it's not my show so I can't control wht happens

Goku hated the ritual form of SSG specifically because he didn’t feel like he earned it. We see him tap into the power on his own without the ritual (his own power) and after that point, he trains to master SSG through his own strength. It was just easier for him compared to Vegeta because the ritual allowed him to get a sense of what the power felt like, but he mastered it and made it his own.

Although this arc isn’t the best it’s mainly used as a marketing strategy to test the waters for seeing if people were still interested in the franchise and due to the positive and somewhat mixed reception we got Dragon Ball Super as a result so all and all I’m somewhat grateful and disappointed with the inclusion of this arc in the story
