We have chayotes in Costa Rica 🇨🇷…they are native from mesoamerica (Mexico to Costa Rica) we have all color in sizes Fron small as a peach to as big as a soccer ball…in white dark green….

Great video. One question. I am in Vancouver, BC and front yard is mostly sunny...at least 8 hours of sun in summer. Backyard may get 4 to 6 in summer but lots of shade that develops cuz of trees. I know you said they dont like direct sun but I am assuming we live in quite different climates. Would you guess i should place in front or back yard? Its okay if i don't get result you think I will depending on your answer. I just want your guesstimate. Also, wow! Your garden is beautifully fantastic!
But I. Cold climatic zones it is a wild climber. Just go ahead... Under 22 degree celcius it will not have issues... For us in India where it is 36-40 degrees is a big challenge..still commercial farmers are doing it in large scale....and it is available in the market

As a chayote farmer from Atok, Benguet Philippines.... Everything is wrong in this video.... From seed, you planted a wrong seed,to pot,it should be on the ground or a bigger pot cause of it's rapid root growth, to the month it took to make it grow that long,it would only took two and a half months to make it fruit from seeds day one, to what you provide to let it's vines scatter, it should be a lot wider. Your plant haven't eaten the right amount of fertilizer so it's leaves are small, that's a bonsai😂.I'm a farmer of that fruit that bring 2 tons to the market every week. :It can bear fruit for three or more years depends on how it was taken care.

hello Sir, how much compost is too much in soil mix? i grow diferent fruiting plants and some like papaya tend to rot in my cool temperate climate in winter or spring and i have been told that it is because i shouldnt use compost in the soil and only use it on top of the soil?
the reason it didnt grow well is because the Chayote is still young. you need large ones which have sprouted on its own because of its maturity . nice video though.
It is very rare that you can get chayote from a container the size. The vine will grow but not fruit. Too much moisture fluctuation. We use a minimum 40 gallon oval.
@@lancehill6133 Don't know what Craigslist is. Anyway i dug about 3*3*3 ft pit and filled it with mixture of half soil and half compost. Space is not a problem. But the soil is very clayey and compacted in my garden space with lots of construction debris. The plant is growing well. It has about 6leaves now. Would be helpful if you can share what size and kind of trellis/support is optimum.

I planted a 2 year old mango plant 1 week ago on pot with mixing of black, red soil and compost (compost nearly 50%)now the few leafs looks dry and felt down, i think reason is compost level is high, can you please give me suggestions for what will i do further.
Quick fact.. you can actually steam the young leaves of this plant and eat it as a salad. Its cruchy and tasty. We dip ours in fish paste. Try it.

Every culture grows them differently..... Some say wait till they sprout, then plant with sprout opening downwards and sprout above the ground.

18 inch pot would be fine , machan would be around 5 feet high

you are probably right, maybe repot with alot less compost or try water less
