      I'm so sorry for my delayed response. I was having issues accessing the pattern on my blog! I have given this some thought, and I think that it mostly depends on the size of the head of the eight-year-old. I know you probably don't have an exact measurement, but if to the naked eye, the head is large or the child is large, then the basic pattern should work fine. But if you are making this for an eight-year-old with a normal to small size head, it might be a good idea to decrease (instructions below):
      Normal size child head:
      Follow the pattern like normal until you get to Row 11 (here you should have 60 SC st in the round). Instead of increasing the pattern, follow this pattern:
      *Row 11: CH 1, then place 1 SC in each st in the row. SL st into the top of 1st SC st,*
      Then pick up with Row 12 and crochet like normal. This might make a slouchy beanie, so you can trim off 3 rows of color at the end if you would like to by simply skipping them.
      Small size child head:
      Follow the pattern like normal until you get to Row 10 (here you should have 54 SC st in the round). Instead of increasing the pattern, place
      *Row 10: CH 1, then place 1 SC in each st in the row. SL st into the top of 1st SC st,*
      I really hope this helps! If all else fails, you can follow the normal pattern and the child will eventually grow into it! Thank you so much for your kind words, and let me know how this turns out for you :)

    Hi, I’m actually trying to make one of these for my brother in law. I’m having an issue with the size. His head is 24” 😅. Will going up a hook size fix this, or do I need to add rows somewhere?

    • @CrochetWithJulie
      @CrochetWithJulie  8 месяцев назад

      Oh wow! Yes, I think you will need to increase some more for him, and I would also add additional rows to make it longer (before the brim portion).
      Starting at Row 12, add these rows:
      Row 12: CH 1. **1 SC in st 1 - 10, 2 SC in st 11.** Repeat around the row (72 SC + 1 CH st at end of row). SL st into 1st SC st.
      Row 13: CH 1. **1 SC in st 1 - 11, 2 SC in st 12.**. Repeat around the row (78 SC + 1 CH st at end of row). SL st into 1st SC st.
      Row 14: CH 1. **1 SC in st 1 - 12: 2 SC in st 13.**. Repeat around the row (84 SC + 1 CH st at end of row). SL st into 1st SC st.
      Pick up the pattern at Row 12. I didn’t account for the color changes, but just keep them even. You also might want to add a few rows at the end of the beanie, as most larger heads need this. I hope this helps you! Let me know if you need further information 🤸🏻‍♀️💕

    will this fit a 22-23 inch head ?? 💙

    • @CrochetWithJulie
      @CrochetWithJulie  2 года назад

      It should, but I could see it being slightly tight. This pattern has some give and will stretch, but you could go up one crochet hook size and it should be pretty comfortable then. I believe you should be able to follow the pattern as-is without any adjustment, just the slightly larger crochet hook. I hope this helps :) (FYI: it fits my head snuggly and my head is a little more than 20 inches).

    How can you make it ribbed between each colour? I’m looking into making an Edith hat from Despicable Me. Thanks.

    • @CrochetWithJulie
      @CrochetWithJulie  3 года назад +2

      Hello! That is a cool hat idea. If it were me, I would do a combination of two of my hats, using back post or half double crochet stitches to make the ribs in the rows. I have a hat that has a similar look, but will need some tweaking, and I also have a tasseled hat that you might want to reference, if you want to include the tassels. One thing I do want to point out, if you want to include the tassels, I would build the hat from the top of the beanie down. I hope this helps! Happy Crocheting!

      @@CrochetWithJulie Thank you ever so much. You are really clever. Your products are so cute.
      I’ve been watching TikTok. The loom hat making machines ( pretty expensive!!) That’s what got me wanting to start crocheting.
      We were in California Disneyland in 2019 as my middle daughter has wanted an Edith hat for years. They had them in one of their stores. Sadly only younger child sizes.
      Do you sell your hats?

    • @CrochetWithJulie
      @CrochetWithJulie  3 года назад +1

      That is so sweet! I really appreciate your kind words. I really want to try to make a video on how to make the Despicable Me beanie! If I did make a tutorial on it, what size would be best for you? Also, would you want it to be slouchy or not? I have to say that the Minion beanies are also adorable (and I really want to make a tutorial on one of those as well lol).
      That is a cool way to start crocheting! Have you seen those round loom knitters? That is how I got started. I don't currently sell my hats, but I honestly just assumed that no one would want them lol. Very cool about California! I love it out there! After looking around for the beanie, I did notice that there are a number of them for sale on Etsy!
