I have one very similar to it, a 2012 Vaio S15, great laptop, still working flawlessly to this day, and just replaced last year because I wanted more battery life
The Stamina/Speed Switch is to select the graphics cards, it does not change automatically and you need the original Sony Drivers like Sony Shared Library, Control Panel, Event System etc all installed. You could always update the drivers using Driver Easy but you will need the original drivers for everything to function correctly.
awww I remember those colorful sony laptops. I always wanted the green one, but couldn't afford it and went for a toshiba instead, which still works fine to this very day (had been replaced by a fancier new lenovo yoga last year though and has thus become a secondary device)

My dad still has one of these (blue, not pink) and he uses it to back up all his music recordings. He spilled beer on it and it still works, so nice job on this one Sony
I have the same one in black and a generation later called SVS13P. You have to switch it to SPEED mode to get the discreet gfx to kick in. Try rebooting after switching modes, and looking in your device manager.
I have almost the same model, but mine I bought in 2013 with 3rd generation i5, an Nvidia GT640 LE, 6Gb of RAM and Windows 8. And I can tell you that this laptop still work pretty good! The Nvidia GPU still works, including with Photoshop and Illustrator ( yeah, is not a top performing, but is better than nothing). Also, this laptop was my daily driver machine until last month, when I replaced it with a G5, not because stop working, but professional reasons. Sony VAIO S Series was one of the best Windows laptops lineup, exceptional construction using magnesium alloy, thin, light and reliable.
Minetest actually runs on pretty much anything, and is very competent as a game engine. It's built around a modding API, so everything in the standard demo gamemode is actually just a "required" mod. Some of the additional gamemodes are really fun, too, and the forums are a tinkerer's paradise filled to the brim with lots of interesting projects that you can play or tinker with yourself.
Hello, regarding the gpu not showing up, one fix that somehow worked for me was taking the CMOS battery out and waiting 5 mins. Then you will get the option fr switchable graphics in the bios, this has worked for DELL laptops so your mileage may vary.
That's laptop is amazing. Few months ago I have bought the silver version and comes with 8 GB of RAM but without the VGA port. Its a great laptop to work with design and digital art. Is strange that this laptop cannot change to the AMD graphics but it's ok. Great video and waiting for a new one. Greetings from Brazil. ✌️
I do remember that….I threw away my own fuchsia pink Sony VAIO laptop in Febuary either of last year or 2019, after an honourable 8-9 years run - it was bought in 2011 (one of the last models) for around $900-950, and came with an Core i3, 500Gb hdd, 4Gb ram and of course Windows 7. :)
I've always looked at these as a teenager but ended up with going for the 13" MacBook pro. Still works until this day, but wow I would really like to own one of these to play older simulation games if it's compatible. This video has made me even more motivated do do my research :)
Those hybrid GPU laptops from the early 2010s were a nightmare. They only had Windows 7 drivers that didn’t work on Windows 10, so basically you were stuck using an outdated OS or with the Intel GPU. Had an HP laptop with the same issue.
It's honestly a shame Sony doesn't make these anymore. Recently got given an old Vaio running Windows Vista a while back and it still works fine and is pretty snappy.
That Laptop came bundled with a custom graphics driver which was required to get the switchable graphics to work properly. Of course Sony never released any updated drivers. But there were modded drivers available that you could install. There were called Leshcat drivers. They may still be available on the web. With these drivers you'll get the physical switch get working again, at least on Windows 7. AFAIK Windows 10 does not support the physical switch anymore but with the proper Leshcat driver you can switch graphics via catalyst software.
I remember I was tasked to fix a similar model, it was overheating, it had a funny 3 way performance switch, and no matter what I did with thermal paste on the tiny heatsink and new fans I could not keep it from shutting down despite the fan going full blast. I had to give up and tell the customer the machine would only run stably in stamina mode, the customer had no idea what that switch did and was happy with the workaround. I remember the waif like weight and small screws and dainty design, had the same plasticky feel as a Walkman.
just got a slightly similar model some days ago, and for free! it was throwed around in a ewaste box, just half of it, so you gotta use it connected to a external monitor, i took it home and tried to turn it on, plugging it in it gave no signal of life, turns out it was just the charger connector that wasn't working, swapped that out and now i got a working Sony Vaio SVT131A11X for free, with a 3rd generation i5, 6GB of RAM and what seems to be a 32GB PCIe SSD? it's not accessible, but after some research it seems that this thing helps the HDD using a weird hybrid system
Hope you enjoy the video 🙂

I have one very similar to it, a 2012 Vaio S15, great laptop, still working flawlessly to this day, and just replaced last year because I wanted more battery life
I know a youtuber (Garret Claridge) and he still uses one of these lol
Good old Garret
@@jblbasstester6198 hey you used to be my worlds greatest RUclipsr when I was 8 lol nice to she you here I would pee myself if I was 8 lmao
The Stamina/Speed Switch is to select the graphics cards, it does not change automatically and you need the original Sony Drivers like Sony Shared Library, Control Panel, Event System etc all installed. You could always update the drivers using Driver Easy but you will need the original drivers for everything to function correctly.
Love that lens flare thing at the beginning of the video and in transitions. How do you do that?
A transition pack
awww I remember those colorful sony laptops. I always wanted the green one, but couldn't afford it and went for a toshiba instead, which still works fine to this very day (had been replaced by a fancier new lenovo yoga last year though and has thus become a secondary device)
Jist run windows 7 and install the driver from amds site.
My friend had a Sony Vaio back in 2013 and I was jealous of him because I had a HP DV4000 at the time, and it struggled to open Minecraft. Good old times
Maybe you should switch that thing to “Speed” for the graphics card to kick in.
The issue is though there's no drivers for Windows 10, so the switcher won't work.
Man I watch alot of tech channels but the color grading on your videos is just so good!
Welcome to the Linux land!
Yeah I do
My sister had a pink Vaio back in 2008 that lasted for several years, it was a solid laptop
Hello! Do you fix laptops for other people?
I love the look of that thing. Colourful laptops are great.
me as a gay teenager wanted one of those SO BAD, I had to settle for the white one
Damn ive never seen a gay with bad body shape, it's like a requisite!? Man i want those muscles!!!
@@MvsG18 when you come out you'll automatically assigned get a personal trainer assigned, it's part of the gay agenda
@@the-shork fucking closets, if i just had one
@@the-shork btw it's just a joke, not trying to insult any gay person
@Bzake saying "gays have a good body" is not homophobic, and im also not bodyshaming, its a joke, a compliment and also just generalizing, it's like saying all woman have long hair, i'm not excluiding woman that don't have long hair or hair at all, i'm just generalizing, and was also a joke, but i think you don't have to begin with this talk yet.
My dad still has one of these (blue, not pink) and he uses it to back up all his music recordings. He spilled beer on it and it still works, so nice job on this one Sony
I litterly always tbaught that Vaio was a different company than sony lol
Your not alone lol i used to think that as well
it is now
i remember way back like 15 years ago, when people who had VAIO laptops were absolute bosses
bruh i just found an old sony/vaio laptop in the closet perfect timing
I had a really bad day and you posting made it a little better. Thank you.
He sadly became one of those. Who doesnt install the windows version that is on the sticker
I love these laptops. We still have one going strong at my work
I have the same one in black and a generation later called SVS13P. You have to switch it to SPEED mode to get the discreet gfx to kick in. Try rebooting after switching modes, and looking in your device manager.
Thanks for another awesome vid Nathan! Keep up the awesome content
i loved Vaios back then.. such beautiful machines.
especially the "VAIO FW Series"
Anyway most other manufacturers also made pink laptops, like Toshiba (through their Portege M800) and MSI (through VR220)
Oh man I remember these things, loved their colour options as well
I have almost the same model, but mine I bought in 2013 with 3rd generation i5, an Nvidia GT640 LE, 6Gb of RAM and Windows 8.
I Love that Sony Vaio Pink Laptop and it's so epic!
I had this laptop it was always brilliant to turn up to tech repair jobs and pull out my bright pink laptop.
My friend has this still working and he uses it even today.
You can also play Windows-only games on Linux using Steam Proton, you have to enable the option on Steam, it's not perfect but it's improving a lot
Dude i love how this vaio looks
Hello, regarding the gpu not showing up, one fix that somehow worked for me was taking the CMOS battery out and waiting 5 mins. Then you will get the option fr switchable graphics in the bios, this has worked for DELL laptops so your mileage may vary.
Steve Jobs liked these so much he offered tham his mac os to be installed on tham, great laptops
That is such a beautiful design.
Great vid psivewri Keep up the great work.love ur channel and videos
This makes me miss my good ol Sony Vaio Fit15E, one of the last ones released in the US.
I normally don’t like pink, but for some reason I find this laptop, appealing ❤💻
we here at the woolies corporation stand by our fine plastic bags, good for snags and laptops, whatever the need we got ya back mate
I recently got an old Compaq and I had to find the long gone Nividia drivers on an old forum
it out a smile on my face that Nathan is finally put linux on a old computer.
Finally can join us the linux nerds
10 year old me would've gone bonkers over this laptop! It's my favorite color!
Figured
I've always looked at these as a teenager but ended up with going for the 13" MacBook pro. Still works until this day, but wow I would really like to own one of these to play older simulation games if it's compatible. This video has made me even more motivated do do my research :)
Those hybrid GPU laptops from the early 2010s were a nightmare. They only had Windows 7 drivers that didn’t work on Windows 10, so basically you were stuck using an outdated OS or with the Intel GPU. Had an HP laptop with the same issue.
So cute computer! this was my dream computer when I was a child. My older cousin had one and I wanted to use it so badly.
I love how the animals on the stamps look like they’re walking all over the box. They look like frames from a stop motion.
