Hey GoHerping. The Reason people say that you don't want to keep snakes like this in too big of an enclosure is because when people do they don't do it the right way. While they do have unlimited space in the wild, they have many hiding spaces and things to interact with. In a 10 gallon, the average lets say Ball Python may need 1 hide to feel safe, but in a 20,30, or 40 gallon, a baby may need 5-8 hides to feel secure and eat good for someone as a pet. Besides that, Great Video, and I love how you design and make naturalistic cages for your snakes. Great Job!!!

So I've been mildly nervous about the humidity in my sand boa's enclosure for some time now. It's not tremendously high, but it's not uncommon for it to be above 50%. I'm using a dial to measure this, not a digital probe, so part of me wonders if it could be faulty measurements. I think I'm doing everything right, I'm not misting the enclosure or adding moisture beyond a waterbowl, which I keep on the opposite end of the enclosure to the heat pad, and I'm using aspen shavings as a substrate. I'm not too worried, but I would appreciate a second opinion to make sure generally 50%+ isn't going to cause problems for the snake, and what I can do to control that number if I have to. I know GoHerping literally has a video titled "Pet RUclipsrs Are Not Your Exotic Vets," so I apologize if I'm being stupid; I'm quite new to this.

They said my snake needed a 80% humidity but it’s okay if it’s anything high (which didn’t sound right to me) that I needed a glass top so I can keep the humidity in (wasted $20) said when my snake is fully grow it will still be happy in a 10gallon take (now I know to upgrade my take when it gets bigger) and said they recommend using coconut hide for a sand boa

We just put down a $50 down payment on our first sand boa (my first snake) so we won't have it for a couple more weeks. Also we are moving in 3 months. Once we move I will be able to get a 10 gal tank to start with. But until then I would like to use a plastic tub as a temp home. My question is what do I need to know about a tub enclosure for the best husbandry and any risks? Like the heating pad. What can I put inbetween the pad and plastic? I have to put holes in the sides right? Should I be worried about it hurting itself on the edges of it? Also whats the best way to "pack" my snake for the move? Anything will help! I'm a real mama bear about all my pets.

How do u quarantine Kenyan sand boas, because they like to burrow but u are meant to use paper towels as bedding.

I agree with go herping because my Kenyan sand boa I know when she got tired of a space that's when she tries to do her escaping so every time she did that I went up another 10 gallons I'm starting to believe that for every foot of snake you need 10 gallons of space and true look at the outside where they normally come from where they should be they have an infinite amount of space so why should we limit that it's just like you said you have to gauge your animal if you see them stressing then change their space. My her Misa Hermes she is about two and a half the three feet long and I just moved her from a almost 20 gallon tub to a 40 foot turtle terrarium and I promise that she uses every bit of that space she seems happier

Couldn’t the boa get wrapped around that thermostat cord, if it’s gotta stay in there the entire time?

Great video, thanks Alex! I'm thinking about getting a sand boa for my first snake; does the thermostat in the hide not bug her?

I have a two year old male sand boa that has been eating fuzzies. How often should they eat? I offer every 14 days but he has refused it twice and is going on 3 weeks now.

If the cord of the probe is sticking out the top, how would you close the tank? Would attaching the probe to the bottom of the heat mat work the same way instead of putting it in the enclosure?

Do you know where I could get an extremely small freezer for the feeder mice? My dad said he had no problem whatsoever with the snake, he just doesn't want mice in the freezer!
