Anita Blake is such a blast from the past! The first few books are excellent horror-y urban fantasy. Just so you know, it notoriously turns into multi-partnered spicy shenanigans later in the series which came as quite a surprise considering the start. Hope you enjoy it anyway! Ruth Ware's The Turn of the Key is a modern thriller based off of Turn of the Screw. Just fyi if you like modern thrillers
