- Playing Arduboy Games on Noritake-Itron GU128X64-800B VFD display + Pro Micro Arduino board (alternate wiring)
Note. the picture looks more awesome in reality than in the video (pixels more blue and bright, background grid much darker)
Support for Noritake-Itron GU128X64-800B VFD display will be added to Arduboy Homemade package soon.

Sorry for the poor gameplay. Filming with one hand and controlling a game pad with the other didn't work so well. Наука
Thats amazing. I always liked VFD display on my old ADB Set Top Box
Awesome! LOVE It! Nice screen.
That's rad as hell!
Would love to make a pip boy with one of these.
_Love seeing the marriage of old and new tech!_ 👍🏻
_Is the VFD capable of displaying greyscale?_
_Are you able to demo the display with a color filter for better contrast?_
Yes and yes, by scanning the display multiple times faster than your refresh rate and only having the dimmer colors active for some of those frames you can achieve a greyscale effect
super cool any info in how to wire the display
I wanted to do something like this with real gameboy games (pokemon!), but unfortunately to my knowledge no single tube has the resolution to do this, except for a prototype mentioned only once in a paper
Hi how can I use GU126X64F VFD display with arduino ?
Saw this video and impulse-bought that VFD display before I had finished watching it. Now that I have a VFD inbound, I have some questions. What power source were you using to drive it? I guess a VFD is much more power hungry than a tiny OLED display. Has the VFD display been added to the homemade package yet? I didn't see it mentioned in the documentation for homemade package.
I used a 5V/1A powerbank (display draws about 500mA - 700mA). The display is added to the Homemade package (bottom display option GU12864-800B) the documentation is just not up to date.
You should put it all in a case and make it an "Arduboy Vintage Macro" !
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm planning too.
So it is possible to make your own arduboy with a larger screen...
Where do you get the display?
you can get used ones from aliexpress or ebay. New ones through digikey but those ore quite pricy
So i know this is a vfd display but does it act like a regular lcd display? If so ive got a good use for it
What do you exactly mean by 'act'? LCD and VFD are different technologies. Hardware interfacing and display ram are similar but not exactly the same.
@@MrBlinky like does this display like a lcd does with the desktop, camera, ect...
@@entity9742 Do you mean to say monitor instead of LCD?
@@williamforbes6919 yeah
@@entity9742 It won't by itself act like a monitor, this is functionally equivalent to the LCD panel inside a monitor, you would still need a board to take a video signal and control the display accordingly.
There are some Planar brand EL displays on eBay which may work for you, you would need to buy an appropriate display driver, but they are supposed to be compatible with some standard LCD interfaces.
Can You Show The Face reveal Mr Blinky Please?
