Ground tent camping is not my favorite but this trail made up for it...

  • This was the first half of day one on the trail in the new truck - a new AEV Ram Prospector XL. This was a LONG day, so I had to break it up into two videos. We covered a lot of ground and the San Rafael Swell did not disappoint. The only way we could camp on this trip was to use a ground tent, so we picked up a gazelle tent - which I believe is one of the best ground tent options, but…

    I like the AEV Prospector. I have 4th Gen RAM 1500, and I really like the build. With all of the big trucks coming into overlanding it would be nice to see add ons for them, particularly better skid plate options being longer wheelbase.

    The found tent... We struggle with this, too! Definitely leave the bag. We leave it because if the person who lost it circles back for it, it's there for them to find. Also, if we leave it and the original owners don't come back, it will be there for someone else who needs it more. That's our philosophy!
    Love the new truck! And love the videos! Keep 'em coming!

    I generally consider things left out on public land to be trash if left behind, but since moving to Idaho, the culture is that if it's not yours, you just don't touch it. I would have to come back in a day or two tho. If they haven't come back for it by then, the odds that they're going to are basically 0, so at that point, I'm just cleaning up public land by taking it out. Tricky situation. Love the kids keeping us honest! 😄
    I did pick up a shooting stick once, because a) it looked like it had been there a while, and b) it was in a place that rarely sees any traffic, and the odds of someone finding it were slim to none. I felt better when I saw one in the store and it was like $20. At least they weren't out a car payment if they did come back looking for it.

      Yes please! I to would like to know some of the details of ordering procedures and wait times.

    • @SwellRunner
      @SwellRunner  Год назад +4

      Ok - so, you can order one new, build the truck out the way you want, and you can probably have the truck in a few months. That's actually what I originally did - I started an order with the truck I wanted - then when it's done it gets sent to AEV for them to do the work. BUT, mid-stream, Jackson called me (a few weeks after I put my order in) and said he had one coming in that the buyer backed out from and offered it to me. I started the process in March and had a truck in May. If I'd have kept my original build, I think I would have had it by July or August. Jackson is more than happy to help on new builds - he was phenomenal to work with. instagram.com/glendale_dcj/

    I think ground tents have lots of pros over a roof top tent or a live in system. Honestly I think a good compromise for me personally is a ground tent system and then staying in an Airbnb every few days for basecamp exploring.

    • @SwellRunner
      @SwellRunner  Год назад +1

      My thing is with a rooftop tent or my camper setup, all I need to do is get my vehicle relatively level and I can sleep comfortably. With a ground tent there is so much more to consider. Including space. But to each their own!
