The game makes far more sense to me now I can play it in VR. Definity the only way I'll run the game from this point on. Combined with a good wheel, pedal set and an h-shifter its a great VR experience even if its nothing fancy visually. I generally stick to off-road and crawling and that to me remains the strong-point, I don't really go in for the crashing side of the game and I'm sure it would give me a headache in VR. Just done the river crawl last night in VR and it was one of the best experiences I've had in Beamng.

When i first saw beam, like everyone, i focused on the crashing. Now that i play it in vr, i love the crash physics but moreso as a point of realism. I learned how to drive in vr and thanks to beam, I'm learning the real limitation on cars, something asseto corsa or city car driving cant teach. I've never stalled a car more than in this game lol

I started with city car driving to learn basics like road etiquette and parking, jumped to asseto corsa and sucked quite a bit. Was like learning to swim by jumping in the deep end, even turned off all assists lol. It's a fascinating video concept, I'm surprised it's not really been done before, not in vr at least, but I know from experience that it works

Its incredible how much better of a driver I am in vr, although I was only able to try it out in a small area. On my laptop with a gtx 1050m, intel 8300h and 20gb of ram, it was *playable* on the ETK driver experience map, using an iphone 13 and VRidge as a "vr headset" (comparable to the oculus rift DK 1) on the absolute lowest settings. I suspect I have better VR legs than the average person though. It was running around 65fps before hopping into vr and 40fps in vr
40FPS is pretty low so you have strong sea legs to cope, I find I get sick around that point! But I agree, as a driver I really miss the lack of G forces and other car communication to know what a car is doing (or going to do). Being able to look through corners and in mirrors by looking is also essential. If only VR looked better, but that is just my humble opinion.
damn. that makes me ill just reading it, lol. that being said my first experience with vr was using vridge on my old huawei p10 lite playing subnautica and project cars 1. it was horrible, and nowhere near a proper vr experience. but it was still cool-ish, and got me to buy a proper vr headset (lenovo explorer)
Seems like the BeamNG dev team has a long way to go til VR is a comfortable experience. Was hoping it would at the very least be okay on a 4070 and 5800x, but it seems that even on a 4090 it will struggle at points. Quite unfortunate, will be hoping for a better experience as it develops.
I have a GeForce GTX 1070 as my GPU and an AMD Ryzen 5 3600X and the game runs smoothly and beautifully both out and inside of VR! I get smooth frames all around and it's a fun experience. I might even start a sort of light roleplay series on running a car auto shop in Beam in VR so keep an eye out for that!
Oh yeah, with low settings it is pretty smooth. VRAM helps apparently. I was pushing the game with higher settings to see what happened, but a smooth frame rate is king.
i dont know how that is possible. i started vr with a gtx1060 and fx8350, some games worked well, but im pretty sure beam ng wouldnt have been one of them. i now have an rtx3080 ti and 5900x and im still not sure i would be able to run beam ng acceptably. maybe i will be pleasantly surprised. either way i think its time i bought that game.

Currently, I find that the Grid Map V2 is the best map for BeamNG in VR. To me, the other maps suffer a bit too much from the VR sparkles, but not the Grid Map V2. Everything in that map is extremely fun... I really like driving the outside track loaded with traffic. Flinging cars off of the corners and smashing them into pillars at 200 mph might be a top 10 life experience!!! Be Careful with your neck!!!!!!
Its not a crashing game, but it contains crashing in it Its a softbody physics simulation that has cars any yes you can race despite the physics being too understeery
I've tried playing in VR, but it caused my CPU to max out in record time, even though my GPU was barely breaking a sweat... but the 5 minutes I had at 10fps were cool
Funny part for me is others are able to play it and it seems smooth. I have a quest 2, rtx 2060 super and R5 5500 and its horrible frames. Completely unplayable.
@@clipsfdrive6gb vram isnt good for vr. For beamng vr i would say 10+, would be good. You would probably get a huge vr boost with a GTX 1080TI and its 11gb vram. While its slower memory 11gb beats out the 6gb anyways

Hey. I would start from the lowest visual settings and if you are still getting stutters then something else is amiss. Maybe your VR settings such as resolution per eye? My setup is a 5950X, RTX 4090 from Zotac and 32GB of 3,200MHz RAM.
I personally disagree, for sitting games like BeamNG, fair enough a cable will be absolutely fine but playing anything roomscale with no wires to worry about is an amazing experience when you have it setup properly with decent hardware. I have a dedicated network for Virtual Desktop on the Quest 2 and honestly it's on a different level of immersion. Years ago wth my CV1 all I thought about while playing was getting tangled when turning too much and damaging my cable.
100% native high quality uncompressed video with no artifacts, latency or performance overhead. not to mention a lighter, cheaper headset without all the internal components mobile vr uses. unfortunately pcvr headsets have been neglected as mobile vr is taking over, and with facebooks monopoly there is no room for competition. its very bad for consumers. but it is what it is. at least we have the hp reverb headsets.
I had a really bad GPU crash when I attempted to spawn AI cops, even stopped sending a video signal to my monitor and said "NO INPUT" kinda freaked me out. Worked well otherwise.
@@ATribeCalledCars update: if this happens to you, I had luck setting max AI vehicles to two, and load them when you're not in VR mode, THEN activate VR, with a max of two other AIs, I had no crashes or dips in performance. Maybe it was just me experiencing this, figured I'd share in case

Man this is not fair evertime I see anybody use beamng vr it just works no lag no Nothing I can't even get 5 fps or get it in the interior cam and my pc is good like 😢 and my steam vr doesn't work
Could be a setting is too high or, as I had once, my 'per eye' setting was at something ridiculous. Those specs should do better so I would watch some VR guides to see if something is a bit awry. And maybe reinstall Steam VR. Hard to diagnose without seeing the issue and your PC but hopefully you can find the source!

@@clipsfdriveive seen normaly beamng use 14gb of vram before on a 4090 / 3090. I would say 6800+ Is a good gpu for beamng. 16gb vram should be for vr. Also yoy should have atleast 32gb of normal ram too since you can use it when vram runs out. Runming 64gb of ram.
@@determination9296 I have sufficient specs. Beamng isn't the issue even though it's poorly optimized, I still get high performance without vr. I believe the issue is they still need to iron out a lot of kinks with the return of vr hopefully this time they get it right. There's people with beefier PCs than mine who are going through the same issue where vr performance is concerned.

vr is the only way people won't yeet themselves off cliffs anymore.
I like it rn it does need some refining but it feels good to be able to drift and adjust your head naturally to the direction your sliding

You can definitely enjoy normal racing, crashing is a big part of it but not everything. The amount of mods means there is a lot of freedom!

I like the vr but man is it power hungry i have a Nivida GeForce rtx 4060 and a intel i5 12400f and I can't run it higher than the lowest graphics.
It would be nice if it could look prettier for less graphical power, maybe in future updates!

VR in BeamNG it is great, but unfortunately when you are inside and see the graphics up close, it looks terrible and breaks the immersion.
Yeah, a bit more optimisation would help show better visuals but not kill the frame rate. VR is a tough old thing to run!
