I'm a Sanskrit teacher and I'm totally disappointed the way parents want their children to study German, French... Schools also offer these foreign languages with great pride. Unfortunately there are just 2 periods to teach sanskrit in lower classes
in majority of the schools. Both parents and students opt Sanskrit for studying just to increase their percentage. Right from basic things of life to the highest level where a human being would reach ie spirituality everything is there in Sanskrit. In this wide spectrum of knowledge comes all branches of Science and Maths. It would not be exaggeration if I told that we knew everything about aeronautics, shipbuilding, astronomy, plastic surgery, atomic power.... the list is unending. It has the power to cure various speech related problems. If I have to put it in nut shell without much delay study SANSKRIT. As Prof.Subhash rightly said there several thousands of text wherein lie the invaluable knowledge which has to be explored. Let us not waste time.

@@alkashrivastava1467 no I think you are wrong there. All changes happen as a reaction to fill a void. As long as English fills that vacuum, there will be no « necessity » to learn Samskrutam. The void can be filled in two ways: eIther when America becomes economically irrelevant or when India decides to adopt Sanskrit as the sole official language of India as well as all the regional languages as official languages at the State level. The first option is more foreseeable than the second. Hence my comment.

Shree Iyer and Subash Kak - saadar pranaam! You have discussed a topic that is close to my heart! I believe that the arrangement of Maheshwara Sutras is such that it must have been of Divine origin. Soundarya Lahari says that the 64 tantras were caused to be brought to the earth by Shiva. No wonder many, many spiritual texts start as a conversation between Shiva and Shakthi. Many others like Natya Shastra owe its existence to Shiva. The more I study the more I am amazed at the blessings Shiva has poured on humanity - not the least of which is the Ganga from his matted locks. I belong to the Shrautha-Smartha tradition which considers Shiva and Vishnu as one. Shri Rama is my Ishta. But Shiva is no less my Ishta. Man's aesthetic sense, left to itself, would find a lowly pit as the water does. Shiva's direct blessings throughout the ages can be seen written large on any work that tries to uplift this to sublime levels.

Temple as a community center concept is easy to understand. Try to spend at least one hour soaking in the temple, instead of “Jarigandi fast track” darshan. Talk to the archakas and kainkaryatharas, you will be surprised at their knowledge.
Reviving community programs in temples is again easy. E.g have a couple of baratanatyam dance programs in Kapaliswarar temple instead of TTK academy and Karnatic music concerts at Parthasarathy temple instead of Naradha Gaana Sabha. Moot point WILL HRCE ALLOW?

@SreeIyer1 excellent work again from PGURUS. The quality of audio and video are much improved now.
Temple like you mentioned were much more than just puja sthala, in addition go to the things you already sighted they were many other things taking place in temples. Sanjeev Sanyal has also written books on it and Srijan foundation talks are available too.
Temples functioned as banks, trade finance including shipping was done, chola kings used to provide seed money and guilds were stored in temples. There are samples of copper guilds found during excavation. This one evidence shows how advanced we were in 1. Trade. 2. Finance 3.sea faring 4. state craft (especially at keeping state money and Kings segregated). Temples were also a natural community shelter at the time of war, famine or any natural disasters, records of Vijayanagara empire prove this. There is much more to be proud of our past that what Romula Thapur would have us believe. Jai Ramji Ki

Panini's work on Sanskrit grammar is remarkable for its perfection in terms of coverage of the enormously diverse Skt vocabulary which is based on a relatively small number of "roots" (dhaatu-s). It is such a work that the rules of the grammar are described or presented according to such a grand design that knowledge of these rules is undoubtedly a big attraction for all devoted to the advancement of computer programming. For this reason it may not be quite precise to call Panini's work (ASHTAADHYAAYEE) with a restrictive name as grammar. (These rules, by the way were employed with ease and great power by, ever so many Indian thinkers and philosophers in various fields through centuries to communicate their profound thoughts or to produce great literature)..
By contrast there is no match to Panini's masterpiece and concepts and their succinct formulation in any other language, of tge world, ancient or modern.
Of course, as Dr Kak says, Panini creatively draws upon some earlier allied works such as Nirukta of Yaska. It is a great leap forward from all works that can be categorised with some justice along with Panini.
We owe a deep debt of gratitude with our sincere appreciation to Dr Kak (and the interviewer) for enabling the right understanding of this topic with his lucid exposition.

The philosophy of Indian life ,economic activities, distribution of income through avowed objectives of the people and their specialisation like sculptors, peasants, livestock keepers, musicians and other folk artists, specialists in carpentry relating to temple, cars, chariots, palanquin bearers, etc. Every one specialised in the intrinsic knowledge of the family trade, kula dharma, like gold smith, iron smith etc..Which was not written down but learnt under the tutlege of the teacher and the pupil, on the spot learning, explanation, experimental knowledge, prasnothara style asking and allowing freedom of expression history can reveal of the foreign invaders looted the land ,not only India but other countries like Vietnam, Arabia, Australia,Etc..For their selfish gratification, misplaced ideologies, unquestionable and unchallenged so called war policies and deployment. The western viewpoint has dominated the Indian educational , political and social system and destroyed our rich timeless culture....

Excellent session, though I would've liked the Prof to go a little deep into how the made the connection between Panini's works and Turing machine. Perhaps that's for another session, exclusively for the nerdy audience!
I have one question, assuming that @pgurus or Prof.Kak follows these comments: I have read about the secret society of nine men setup by Emperor Asoka to accumulate and preserve the know-how of the times for future generations. Is this a myth? What are the chances that some of the original Sanskrit works are still with the present-day families of these men?
    Thank you!

Our ancient scriptures are full of knowledge but difficult to read and understand . Also it is not taught in school , colleges. Dear viewers, Are you any the wiser about Panini, after listening to this prattle? These people with computer science degree and doctorates think that they have The Tool for analysing everything in Sanskrit. They are amateurs dabbling in Sanskrit. The interviewer seemed even less prepared to ask the right questions. There’s one such US-returned computer scientist in Bengaluru who has been translating Vedas to English.his translations are incomprehensible, as he has abandoned traditional interpretation in favour of his own reading of Vedas, supposedly based also on Sri Aurobindo’s views on the Vedas. Little wonder that these amateurs are ridiculed and mocked by western Sanskrit scholars like Michael Wetzel, Wendy Donniger, and Sheldon Pollock. Much as one may dislike their views, they have deep Sanskrit scholarship which they are using for polemics against India, especially the Hindus.

If they teach panini there is no laboratory where you can appreciate what you learnt.
Don't underestimate present higher technical education(degree and above) system, evaluation technology should be step by step with proof(without proof blind belief will not survive for long time like sun rises in east, set in west but proof says sun never rise or set sun position is fixed, earth rotate)
As in wikipedia "Kak has argued that there are limits to artificial intelligence and that it cannot equate the biological equivalent."
Do you agree with this argument.if you agree his statement then no value for research because if wright brothers thought that there is no element which thinner than air which could lift, they would not developed
If Shubash Kak talks hours togther without his actual work of proof it would be beating around the bush
People are telling there is viman vidya( Aeroplane technology)
in yajurveda why our matth ( मठ) didn't tried this, why learner in matth ( मठ) are not able to extract ancient vehicles like pushpak viman may be thier thinking ability restricted by memorizing by chanting without knowing the meaning ( probably older generations think if veda teach or learnt with meaning it would've difficult to remember the vast vedas' in short life time they may started by teaching without meaning, they found another means of teaching as Krama pata Jata pata Ghana pata)
In engineering technology (degree and above) teach the subject with applied mathematics there is no remember
